Marie is a sweet and energetic little lady who loves to run, play, and keep busy! Surrendered for having “too much energy,” Marie is ready for an active family who can keep up with her zest for life. She’s a small but strong gal and she will happily run in place when given the chance. Once outside, Marie is eager to explore and play, even showing off her toy-fetching skills!
Marie is affectionate —quickly jumping into your lap for cuddles and soliciting attention with her tail wagging non stop. However, Marie does have a strong desire to be outdoors and can become a bit vocal and restless when she’s cooped up. She responds well to positive redirection and is easily motivated by treats and toys, making her a quick learner.
Marie will thrive in an active home that can provide her with the outdoor exercise and playtime she craves. If you’re looking for a playful, energetic pup pal who loves to run and play, Marie may just be the girlie for you!
Eligible for rescue, foster, and adoption. Meet Marie at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering her.

Behavior notes:
1/10/25 volunteer notes: as soon as I saw the note that Marie loves being outside walking and running I knew I needed to meet her. She was quietly waiting in her kennel when I approached and was leashed and led outside easily. Once outside we started to boogie!
Marie and I were quickly off campus and running side by side at the local cemetery. She is a speedy girl, but was happy to slow up a bit to a more manageable pace for me. Mid run, we took a break, shared treats - which she sat nicely for and took gently, and then we were back on our way.
Post run, I needed to catch my breath so we stopped in one of the play yards for a cooldown. Marie was happy to chase a few toys around, but was also interested in pets and also gave me a few kisses. She’s a joy to take out and spend time with!
1/9/25 volunteer notes: Sweet Marie was such a good girl when I took her for a walk on Monday, 1/6. This girl is clearly very smart and just wants to get out to explore. She was medium energy but not overly strong on the leash and likely housetrained, as she relieved herself shortly after we got outside. She took treats very gently and was comfortable with pets. She was mostly interested in exploration and not as interested in toys.
She didn’t jump, bark, or display any negative reactivity to the other dogs we saw while walking / exiting and entering the kennel. Anyone would be lucky to have this sweet girl in their life.
1/3/25 staff noted: Would benefit from a very active adopter! LOVES to be outside walking and running

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:
KNOWN HISTORY:
Owner surrender - “too much energy”
KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Marie was standing by the door when I approached. She waited patiently with soft eyes and mid level wags for me to leash her. Once secured she came right out.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulled strongly, but is small so easy to manage. Was practically running in place on leash
HANDLING :
Marie was very sweet with me in the room. She solicited right away and jumped into my lap with soft eyes and wags. She allowed some all over pets, and then began exit searching frantically, whining loudly and barking. Based on her owner notes I decided tot ake her outside to see if she needed to go out. When we got outside she saw another dog and she pulled very strongly towards them with raised hackles, but I was able to pull her away and keep her moving. She was choking herself pretty bad on the leash, so I switched her to harness wrap and she walked much better. When we got back inside she began to scream, whine, and bark at the door again, trying to escape. It seems like Marie would benefit from lots of outdoor exercise. She began to play with a toy, and brought it up for me to throw. She went back and forth between playing keep away and letting me take the toy. When she didn’t want to drop her toy, she would trade for a treat easily. Overall, Marie will need an active adopter who will take her for lots of walks and runs, to get her the outside time she wants so badly!
PLAY:
Engages in play
TOYS:
Releases willingly and trades for treats
Per Volunteer 12/6/24:
Marie was very loose and easy for leashing, even though she has a cone on! She allowed me to leash around the cone. She was walking into everything with the cone poor thing. She pulls minimally but more out of excitement and it’s super manageable. Very treat motivated and takes treats super gently! Seems quite active and agile for having her leg injury. Took pets all over and very affectionate! Easy lady to have out

BEHAVIOR EVALUATION: Marie (formerly Sugar Plum)

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally
HANDLING:
In the room Sugar Plum was well mannered and very easy to handle! She trotted around and then came up to us with loose and relaxed body language to solicit attention.
