Pookie is a loving adult male cat looking for his forever home!
This handsome fellow took about 3 weeks to adjust to his foster home, and at 5 weeks he still prefers to stay hidden for part of the day—under a bed, behind a desk, or in a closet. In the beginning we used a cat brush to reach out to him and pet him and that is what motivated him to move closer to us and eventually allow us to pet him. He now seeks affection and now meows for attention.
He has also started to show excitement about knowing he is going to be able to snuggle and receive. He jumps up on the bed and rolls around making eye contact, as if asking us to come give him affection.
This sweet boy with the perfectly outlined nose is very content to lounge around and do nothing but prefers to cuddle up close to his person and have you pet him. He has shown some interest in catching moving objects, but he is more cautious about movement than playful at this point. Pookie will take some time to gain confidence and feel safe in his forever home.
He lives with 3 adults in a house. He currently prefers the middle-aged woman over the 2 young adult men in the home, but he is learning to trust more every day.
Pookie's ideal forever home would be calm and peaceful. I suspect he would not enjoy other animals or small children, as he continues to be on alert and hide himself when there is noise or sudden movement.
This cute guy would also love to live with someone who works from home or is around a lot, and who would enjoy talking to him, holding him, and petting him often. He seems to prefer women over men, but he does enjoy attention from men when they give it to him. Pookie is very smart—he comes when called and especially knows when a treat is being offered.
He is so ready to leave his rough days behind and enjoy the cozy, loving indoor life in a patient, compassionate home. Could that be with you?
Pookie is FIV+, but that doesn’t mean he can’t live a long, normal, and healthy life! Cats with FIV commonly have average lifespans. Because FIV is spread only through deep bite wounds, FIV positive cats are able to live with FIV negative cats in stable social environments. You can read more about FIV here: https://tinyurl.com/58sf9wtj
Interested in adopting or learning more about this cat? Please fill out Pet Haven’s adoption application: http://bit.ly/2fd9U2Fpethavenmnwww..org/adopt.
All ages and breeds are a best estimate. Adoption fees include a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.
All cats have received comprehensive veterinary care and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV unless otherwise stated. Cats are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and/or ear mites, de-wormed, and microchipped. Please note there may be additional follow-up visits.

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

How We Help

Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
