My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kelp Banner!

Kelp Banner is a charming 7-year-old who found himself at the shelter after a kind Good Samaritan rescued him from wandering alone. Despite his sudden change in surroundings, Kelp has shown us what a polite, friendly, and all-around sweet dog he is.

Kelp seems to have been well-cared-for in his past, so we believe he may have had a home before. Understandably, he’s a bit unsure about how he ended up here, and he’s hoping for a quick reunion with a loving family.

If you’re looking for a gentle, well-mannered companion who’s ready to fill your days with affection and joy, Kelp Banner might just be your perfect match. Come meet him today and maybe you can be the happily ever after he deserves!

Kelp Banner is currently eligible for rescue, foster and adoption. Head to ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering him!

Behavioral:
Per volunteer 1/26: Kelp Banner in the iso yard! As always, he's the sweetest gentle giant, the definitely of "big head no thoughts". He really seems to be coming out of his shell, coming over for more attention rather than just sniffing around on his own. He accepted lots of pets and had a goofy little trot to come over when I called him. He was definitely very interested in a dog he saw through the fence, but came back over when I called/pulled his leash. He's always a joy to take out and such a sweetheart

Per Staff 01/19/2025 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION:

KNOWN HISTORY:
Stray

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Kelp Banner was alert barking at the front with soft eyes and a wagging tail. He was patient for leashing and came right out.

LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally

HANDLING :
In the room, Kelp Banner was super friendly and greeted everyone with a smile and a mid level wagging tail. He allowed all handling and did his rounds around the room for attention. He took treats gently and sat patiently for them. He showed minimal interest in me attempting to play with him as he is older and wants to relax and go for walks. An overall perfect boy.

PLAY:
No interest

TOYS
Takes possession

COLOR LEVEL & ANY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Green
1/20 Volunteer noted: Kelp Banner was such a sweet, independent boy! He enjoyed sniffing around on his own and exploring his environment, but he would come back to me every now and then and take treats incredibly gently. He was really interested in seeing dogs through the fence and wanted to say hi. Overall he was such a gentle giant and a pleasure to walk!

Per volunteer 1/18/25: Kelp Banner just arrived at the shelter as a stray. He was happy to go outside. Walked really well on his leash, no pulling at all. Kelp showed me that he knows sit, and takes treats gently. He is also seems to be in really good condition for being a senior boy. He allowed all over pets. He has very kind eyes and is a wiggly boy. But he is definitely confused why he is at the shelter. In the yard he was doing some exit searching and whining, looking for his people. He is also in kennel in a pretty busy area so he seems stressed being in that kennel, unable to relax. Hopefully after a few days he will settle in some more. He is a sweet dog and hopefully his owners come for him or he can leave with a foster or adopter quickly!

Per staff 1/18/25: Seemed a little nervous was whimpering and running in circles but was very friendly and opened to pets from all strangers.

1/18/25 finder noted that he was Very friendly, loves cuddles, listens to commands and that he was excited to be around their 5LB dog. They also noted that he is friendly, cuddly, scared, Playful. Anxious, whines unless being pet or talked to.

Mouth/Teeth/Gums - severe tartar and staining, k9s appear filed down
