My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet SUTTON, a White Agouti American Crested guinea pig, estimated to be around 2 years old. Sutton was pulled from the shelter in September 2024. We noticed she was very pregnant and still listed as available for adoption through the shelter, so we stepped in to get her, as we always try to prevent any guinea pig from giving birth in a shelter or being adopted while pregnant. This typically results in the guinea pig(s) being returned, rehomed, or, in the worst cases, dumped like trash. Days after coming into our care, she gave birth to four healthy and adorable babies.

Mama Sutton is bonded with her daughter, Salem, forming a wonderful mother-daughter duo! These two love to zoom around, jump on top of their hides, and quickly pick up routines. They are total snack enthusiasts, so be prepared for them to demand treats the moment they hear you coming. Both love Oxbow Vitamin C Cookies. Sutton enjoys having tunnels to explore. They are difficult to photograph, as you can see by the lack of pictures, since they are too cool to pose still for photo shoots.

If you have room in your heart (and home), please use the link below to apply:

Please be aware that we are working with Adopt-A-Pet to resolve an issue with the "Apply to Adopt" button on our piggy profiles. Currently, it opens a blank page due to an incorrect insertion of "amp;" in the link (between the & and m). If you delete "amp;" from the link and hit enter, it will direct you to our adoption application. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the link provided above into your browser.

If you are hesitant about adopting a guinea pig or are unsure if they are the right fit for your family, consider fostering a pair instead. By joining our Foster Program, you will be helping more guinea pigs in need of care. We are a small foster-based rescue that relies on foster homes to provide care for these piggies. Together, we can make a difference and save lives! We are in DESPERATE NEED of foster homes. Tripp and Palmer are one of the pairs looking for a foster home while waiting to be adopted. If you are interested in our fostering program, please apply using the link provided below or contact us for more information at somdguineapigrescue@gmail.com.

** ALL VOLUNTEER FOSTERS ARE PROVIDED WITH A CAGE AND NECESSARY SUPPLIES. IN RETURN WE ASK THAT OUR VOLUNTEER FOSTERS SUPPLY FRESH WATER, CLEAN CAGES, AND FRESH VEGGIES DAILY. ** We ask that volunteer fosters be within 50 miles of Hughesville, MD.

More about this rescue

We are a small foster based guinea pig rescue in Southern Maryland. Our 501c3 nonprofit rescue's mission is to educate the public on proper guinea pig care and husbandry as pet stores often misinform the public about cage size, nutrition, what is and is not safe, and guinea pigs are often mis sexed or sick at pet stores which leads to guinea pigs being surrendered or worse, abandoned outside. By adopting from rescues like ours, it helps to ensure adopters won't have surprise/unwanted pregnancies, unhealthy piggies, mis sexed guinea pigs while also helping guinea pigs to stay in their furever homes!
