My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rowan is a gentle giant, a male large-breed Chow-Retriever mix who’s looking for a patient and loving home. He’s a bit reserved and nervous around new people at first, but with time and understanding, he warms up and reveals his affectionate side. He’s still coming out of his shell and might become more active as he gets more comfortable in his environment. He’s still teaching us his boundaries, but he is making great progress every day. Once he trusts you, he loves to cuddle and be close to those he feels comfortable with. Heartworm negative, he’s calm and laid-back, though he’s not particularly interested in other dogs. He may not seek out doggy companionship. However with the right person who takes the time to get to know him, he has a lot of potential to become a loyal and loving best friend. He just needs the time and patience to become the best version of himself.

HSSM is home to over 300 pets on any given day, most of which are looking for new forever homes! Your new best friend could be waiting at HSSM right now. Our beautiful, 41,000 square foot facility is currently open to the public. HSSM is open for adoptions Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No appointment is necessary to adopt, however, adoptions are first-come, first served. You must come to HSSM to complete your adoption and make sure you bring a photo ID, as it is required to complete adoption paperwork.
Our adoptable animals page is self-updating and displays ALL of HSSM’s adorable adoptable pets from “pocket pets” to birds and of course the hundreds of dogs and cats currently calling HSSM home! See one you like? Make sure you note your favorite’s name and animal ID number so that HSSM staff and volunteers can easily find him/her when you come in!
Adoptions are cut off every day about 30 minutes prior to closing and possibly earlier if volume is high. Weekends are busy and you may have to wait more than an hour (especially in the afternoons) so please be prepared.
