Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Dillon: Your Future Best Friend
Hi, I’m Dillon, a 3-year-old Blue Staffy mix with a gorgeous, soft grey coat that feels like a teddy bear! Right now, I’m working on gaining a little weight and am a lean 58 lbs, but I’ll fill out beautifully soon.
I’m a mellow, sweet, and loving guy who thrives on being close to my people. Wherever you go, I’ll follow—whether it’s lying at your feet while you work, watching you do chores, or waiting patiently outside the shower for you to come out. I’m a total cuddle bug and love nothing more than snuggling on the couch with my chin in your lap or leaning into your chest. Even when we first meet, I’ll greet you with a wagging tail and gentle nudges for pets.
I’ve got some fun quirks, too! I’ll cock my head to the side when you talk to me, like I’m really listening. And don’t get me started on toys—I love playing tug of war! I know commands like “sit” and “stay”, and I take treats gently (especially if you remind me to “take it nice”).
My Journey
I was once someone’s pet—I’m comfortable with stairs, I know toys, and I’ve learned house manners. But somehow, I ended up as a stray with no microchip. A crowded Texas shelter found me, but their space was so tight, I ended up on the euthanasia list. That’s when SHDR swooped in and saved me!
My Personality
People-Friendly: I adore people and greet everyone with my signature wiggle-butt and wagging tail (so hard, it wags my whole body!). I love being touched—just don’t grab my paws, as they’re still healing from scrapes I got in the shelter.
Dog-Friendly: I coexist peacefully with other dogs, especially ones my size (50-70 lbs). I enjoy playing chase in the yard with my foster sibling and don’t mind sharing toys. I’d also be fine as your one-and-only dog, as long as someone is home with me.
Family-Friendly: I’m great with teens and would do well in a home with kids 8 years or older, given my size.
House-Trained: I’ll nudge you or head to the door when I need to go out, and I walk well on a leash (a harness works best for me!).
My Ideal Home
A fenced yard would be fantastic!-I need a safe space to run and chase squirrels!
No shared walls like apartments or condos, as my bark can be loud when I do decide to use it (I’m usually quiet indoors).
Someone who’s home most of the time—I thrive with companionship and would love a work-from-home or stay-at-home parent.
If you’re looking for a medium-energy, loving shadow who will cherish every moment with you, I’m your guy. I’ll greet you with a wagging tail and all the love I can give.
Let’s meet soon! Apply to adopt me, and I promise to be your most loyal and devoted companion.
With love,
Dillon

More about this rescue
We are a small 501 C3 nonprofit rescue located in Elburn, Illinois. In 2014, Safe Haven Dog Rescue became its own non-profit. We are licensed by the Illinois Agriculture Department.
The majority of our dogs and puppies are pulled from Kill Pounds and Shelters in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Illinois. We also accept local medical cases as often as our finances will allow.
Please take a few moments to read the stories about the dogs and puppies we have available for adoption. We disclose everything we know about the dogs, sometimes we know a lot often we know only that they were strays, thrown away on the side of the road, in the woods, or found in abandoned houses.
While we don’t always know their past we are certain that their future is much brighter.
We hope that you and your family are part of the future…..
