Bruce is a sweet, but very fearful guy in need of a patient and understanding person to help him build confidence.
He trembles in his kennel with wide, scared eyes. Once outside, he'll allow for pets but prefers to stay close to his handlers for reassurance. He has no interest in play at the moment due to his anxiety. Bruce needs a calm, quiet home that can help him overcome his fears and gain confidence at his own pace.
Eligible for rescue or adoption. Visit Bruce at ACCT Philly daily, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Behavior notes:
01/29/25 volunteer notes: I had bruce out for a dog meet with Aeries today. They both instantly became friends and would follow each other around during the whole meet. Bruce opens up a lot with another dog. Once aeries and the volunteer walked away I was having trouble getting bruce to go anywhere as he kind of just pancaked himself and would only stay at the back of the fence. I had to have the volunteer and aeries to come near him just for him to go back inside. Bruce would benefit from another dog showing him the ropes and showing him that not everything is so scary.
Per Volunteer 1/28/25: Bruce is such a sad and scared boy! When I first approached his kennel he was on his bed full body trembling. I dropped a few treats, but he didn’t come forward. He just kept trembling. I gave him some baby talk and opened the kennel door and took a few minutes to put the leash near him, still dropping treats. He was still trembling, but not giving me any signals of aggression so I moved forward and was able to leash him! He willingly came with me, but then was very scared walking through the kennels. A staff member walked by with a dog, and Bruce immediately loosened up with a wagging tail! He was soo much more outgoing and comfortable with the other dog. We noticed his dog friend helped so they ended up walking with us all the way to the door to get him outside more comfortably. Outside, he was still trembling, but took some pets and was open to handling, just scared! Didn’t want any treats out there. Did go poop and pee outside. Inside the vol office he warmed up a lot! Stopped trembling and ended up taking treats when he got more comfortable. Very cuddly and accepted handing all over. Took to a male staff member and sat under his desk for a while. Such a sweet boy. Very easy to return to kennel!

KENNEL PRESENTATION:
Bruce was laying on his bed trembling and looked up with wide scared eyes. The handler crouched down and let him sniff the leash. He wouldn't come forward so the handler leashed his ears to snout and once secured he came out slowly.
LEASH SKILLS:
Pulls minimally– pancaked, fearful on leash
HANDLING :
Bruce came into the eval room with a tucked tail, scared wide eyes, and a lowered body. He went right under the table and pushed his body into the handler. He was nervous of a lot of loud noises and quick movement and darted his head away from whatever the object was. He allowed all handling and sought comfort a lot from his handlers, refusing to remove himself from under the table. Bruce is just very fearful but is very sweet and tolerant.
PLAY:
No interest –too fearful
TOYS
Minimal interest– perked up with a squeaky toy
01/27/25 staff notes: Finder described Bruce as, friendly scared playful
