RUFUS NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!!

Name: Rufus Best Guess for Breed: Flat coated retriever mix

Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of January 2025 SEX: Male

Approximate Weight: 64 lbs

Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but he can be tested if you have them.

Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here

Rufus is Looking For: His forever home! Through no fault of his own, this sweetie now needs a new home. He's eager to once again have his own humans for sniffy walks and romps and world exploration. Shelter staff say he is sweet, shy, and submissive - he'd like to male pup pals with other nice dogs! Most of all, though, he wants to know where he belongs, to know he's safe and loved for all his days.

What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster

The adoption process begins when you submit an adoption application either online or at an adoption event. The individual responsible for the dog you are interested in adopting - a position we call the “adoption coordinator” - will then set up a time to discuss your application over the telephone. The adoption coordinator will check your vet reference to make sure all current and past pets were kept up-to-date with their shots and medical care. The adoption coordinator will also set up a home visit with one of our trained volunteers. That individual will come to your home to ensure that it is a safe environment, to confirm that everyone in the home is on board with adopting a dog, and to discuss any other questions you may have about dog adoption!
