My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Shirley was brought into care by a community member on January 22, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Shirley is a small, shy pup with a heart full of potential, looking for a quiet and understanding home. She's a little reserved at first and needs someone who will let her settle in at her own pace. Shirley came in with her sister Laverne (939712), and they're a package deal! Shirley does have some luxating patellas (knee caps that pop in and out of place) and mild to moderate dental disease, but this doesn't slow her down one bit! Shirley thrives in a calm environment and would benefit from a patient adopter who can help her build confidence. With time and care, Shirley will reveal her sweet and loving nature. Are you ready to give Shirley and Laverne the safe space they need to shine? They're waiting to meet you!

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
