My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BOWSER

Available for Adoption

Have you ever felt so forgotten, so unwanted, that you weren’t sure if things would ever get better? That was my life before I was rescued.

When my friends at CARE found me at Chicago Animal Control, I was barely holding on. My fur was so matted it pulled at my skin with every little movement, making it painful just to exist. I was filthy, covered in dirt, urine, and worse. I had no comfort, no relief—just fear, loneliness, and sadness. I didn’t know kindness. I didn’t know love. I didn’t even know what it felt like to be a dog.
But everything changed that day.

They saw me. They didn’t look away. They didn’t decide I was too far gone. They saved me.
They rushed me to the vet, where I got a medical shave and neuter. When 4.2 pounds of fur came off, I could finally move without pain. For the first time in who knows how long, I felt fresh air on my skin. I felt relief. I felt clean. And for the first time in forever, I felt hope.
I’m a 3-year-old doodle, and now, I’m learning what it truly means to be a dog. I get to go on walks (which I LOVE—I’m an excellent walker!), feel grass beneath my paws, play, and experience kindness. I’m potty trained, sweet, and so eager to love and be loved. Every day, I grow stronger, happier, and more ready for the next chapter of my life.

I know there’s a family out there for me—someone who will see me the way CARE did. Someone who will never let me feel forgotten again. Could that be you?
I’m waiting

I have been microchipped and neutered and have had a full veterinary checkup and vaccines. My adoption fee is $325. For more information or if you would like to meet me, please fill out an adoption survey at carenorthshore.org/dog-adoption-survey

Our fees include a full medical exam by a veterinarian. This includes a Feline Leukemia and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) test for cats, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, deworming and Spay/Neuter. Dogs receive a Heartworm Check, Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, Canine Flu Vaccine, deworming, and Kennel Cough preventative. Our modest adoption fees do not cover the procedures and vet work that we provide the animals. We fundraise to make up the difference. Any ongoing medical needs that C.A.R.E. is aware of are explained fully, (including daily medicine costs), to the potential adopter, and become the responsibility of the adopter.
