Approximate Age: 5 years old Approximate Weight: 86 lbs Meet Daisy Mae! - Huge love bug. - She loves to chase squirrels up a tree or out of the yard. - Uses her hound nose to smell food or wildlife - she will not take food off a table or counter. - She loves to sleep on an XL dog bed. - Plays with toys and bones. - Good with other dogs. - Will go in a crate. - Likes walks and car rides - needs a boost to get in the car. - A true hound arooo and loves using her sniffer - Loves her people and may get anxious when they leave the house - Will whine to go outside, whether for potty or to check if there are squirrels in the yard - Will let you clean her paws when they are muddy - Currently on seafood protein dog food. - Takes Zyrtec for allergy symptoms - Ehrlichia positive. Story
I’m Zoey, a sweet and snuggly 10-month-old Basset mix who is looking for my forever family. I came to BROOD after my previous family adopted me from an animal shelter and soon realized I had too much energy for them. I am full of curiosity and love learning new things. I am friendly and energetic and quite agile for a small hound--I weigh only 38 pounds. I would do well in a home with someone that likes to walk and who will play with me. I am crate trained and keep my kennel dry overnight, too.It doesn’t take me long to bond with my people—I love being close to my family, and I thrive on attention. That’s why I need to be the only dog in the home--I want all the cuddles and affection for myself! I also don’t get along with cats and will happily chase them around, so a cat-free home is best for me. I love playing with toys and can often entertain myself with play. While I may still be discovering my personality, one thing is for sure: I’m great with kids and love spending time with them. Due to my energy level and tendency to jump up, I would be best in a home with older children. Whether we are playing or cuddling, I am always ready for fun.BROOD is short of foster homes right now and I am still in boarding at BROOD’s veterinarian. I would love a foster home or how about a foster-to-adopt home? Contact BROOD at foster@brood-va.org if you want to foster me!If you’re ready to add some extra love and companionship to your life, I would love to meet you! Contact BROOD today to start our journey together. My adoption fee is $100.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog’s age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD’s adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 12/23/2024

Story
My name Indy for short. I have an adventurous streak and love exploring the world! I’m a 5-year-old Basset mix found as a stray. When I first came to BROOD, I had a heartworm infection, but after treatment, I’m now healthy, happy, and ready for an active life! Now that I’m feeling great, I absolutely love going on walks! I do get a bit excited and tend to pull, but I’m working on my leash manners every day. I’m working on my house training so I’ll need a patient family to help me fully master this skill.True to my hound roots, I’m quite vocal and enjoy sharing my thoughts—whether it’s about my day, spotting a deer, or letting you know it’s mealtime. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for me, as I love roaming, sniffing, and soaking up the outdoors. I would not do well in an apartment or condo. I’m a people-lover and make friends with everyone I meet, including kids who stop for a quick pet on my walks. I get along with other dogs but would be ok by myself. I enjoy playing with toys, especially a Kong stuffed with snacks, and I’m always up for learning new tricks if there are treats involved. I already know commands like “sit,” “down,” and “kennel.”If you’re looking for a loyal, adventurous, and sweet companion, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to start our adventures together. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. Story
Hi there, I’m Warren! I’m a 5 to 7-year-old Basset mix with a laid-back personality. My ears might not be as long as some, but they’re perfect for me!Let’s get the important stuff out of the way—I have a few medical conditions that require daily medications for life. The good news is that I’m doing much better since I was rescued. BROOD will even cover the cost of these medications and supplements to help me stay healthy.I’m fully house-trained, and can even use a doggie door. I love hanging out in the yard while my foster mom works. I do not like being crated and I prefer a home with fewer steps to climb.I’m a social guy who loves meeting new people and other dogs. Sometimes, I’m so excited about my new friends that I try to follow them home! I’d do well with a canine sibling or as an only dog—I’m flexible as long as I get plenty of love.Playtime is the best, especially with squeaky toys (check out my video!). Afterward, I’m more than happy to settle down in my comfy dog bed for a snooze. I’m mellow, easygoing, and would fit in beautifully with any family. I rarely bark and I’m always ready to show off my “sit” skills for a treat. If you’re looking for a sweet, low-maintenance companion who will adore you forever, I’m your guy! Contact BROOD today to meet me. My adoption fee is $250.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Meet Gus!!! Gus is a charming 9-year-old classic Basset with plenty of pep in his step. Gus adores playing with toys (he even knows some by name!) and enjoys play sessions with the dog and cat in his foster home. He’s always up for a quick game of fetch, walks around the neighborhood, or an adventure in the car. He will also happily settle in for a snuggle or nap with his family.Fully house-trained, he can use the dog door or will let his family know when he needs to go outside. He has some separation anxiety (barking and whining) so would do best in a home where someone is around most of the day. If you work from home, Gus will be your loyal coworker. He is not fit for an apartment, condo, or townhome life. A social and fun-loving guy, Gus makes fast friends with everyone he meets, including kids. However, due to his sturdy “tank-like” nature, he’d do best in a home with school-age children or older to avoid accidentally knocking little ones over. .With his lovable personality and sweet nature, Gus is guaranteed to bring joy to your home and brighten every day. Contact BROOD today to meet him! His adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Story
Wednesday is a 2-year-old classic Basset Hound with a heart full of love, looking for a family to call her own. This sweet girl is house-trained and crate-trained—and she’s so independent that she’ll even crate herself when she needs a little “me time” from the hustle and bustle of the household.A bit of a selective eater, Wednesday sometimes skips a meal or two. She gets along well with calm dogs who share her relaxed vibe but isn’t a fan of overly energetic pups. She’d also be perfectly content as the only dog in her home, soaking up all the love and attention.Wednesday is a true people-lover and a master snuggler. Her favorite pastime is curling up with her family for some quiet, quality time. She’s perfected the art of the “flat Basset,” which she uses to let you know she’s not too keen on leashed walks—fast movements and loud noises can be a bit much for her. This gentle soul would flourish in a calm, peaceful environment. Wednesday takes daily medication to help her manage stress and anxiety, but her loyalty and loving nature make every moment with her worthwhile. If you’re looking for a devoted, cuddly companion to share a tranquil life, Wednesday is the one for you! Contact BROOD today to meet this special girl. Her adoption fee is $300.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions).
