My name is Little Louise (Lilly for short), and I am an affectionate an active beagle mix who would love to be your devoted best furry friend. Like many beagles, I am very attached to my people and will always greet you with excitement when you come home from work or errands. Try not to smile when my tail wags and ears flop while I ask for hugs and pets upon your return, I dare you! I would do best as your one and only pet in the house: I do well with other dogs at doggie daycare, but at home I am an attention hog and can get jealous of other pets when they have your focus. I would also prefer any children be on the older side (10+ years old) just because I am an excitable girlie and wouldn't want to accidentally hurt one of my tiny human siblings when I am being silly. I have a variety of interests including going for walkies to sniff and explore, cuddling with my family (my favorite spot is under the covers near your feetsies to help keep them warm at night!), and most especially running zoomies around the yard and chasing thrown balls or sticks. My ideal forever home will have a fenced yard so we can play fetch together every day - doesn't that sound like living the dream? You can also call me little miss smartypants, too: I am already potty trained and know commands including sit, down, and shake. In pretty typical beagle fashion, sometimes I am too smart for my own good and can find creative ways to try and escape. For example, I know how to open doors that have lever handles instead of knobs. Crazy smart, right!? So I will thrive with attentive humans who will keep an eye on me and keep me out of trouble. Gigi's Recovery Album including some videos. 7-27-2024: Thanks to Volunteer Pilots Paul and Alyssa, Gigi flew from Alabama to the Chicago area. She is now safe in foster care and doing great learning about house training and being spoiled as she should be. We got a better photo of her possible inguinal hernia and we will be fundraising for her preop bloodwork, spay and hernia repair surgery. What a sweet little dog!!! We need to raise at least $800 or more as bloodwork will be over $300 and then spay and hernia surgery will be possibly $500. If we need to do a dental- add another $150. Both dogs were covered in fleas and ticks and were more than likely dumped. The family that found them are keeping the boy and we are moving Miss G to the Chicago area for foster care as soon as I can line up transport. It looks like Gigi has had many litters and she also has an inguinal hernia that we will have to surgically repair when she is spayed. According to her Alabama foster dad, she is the sweetest and very affectionate. The vet guessed her to be around 4 years old. Once we get Miss G to the Chicago area, we will be doing blood work and can assume she was probably infected by the tick bites. She and her brother are currently on antibiotics just in case. We are still waiting for her heartworm status. We have a loving foster home lined up locally to work on her cage and house training, but moving forward, we are looking for a foster to adopt family in the Chicago area. Potential families must have a safe fenced in yard and Beagle experience would be a plus. Gigi has a wonderful Beagle houndie bay, so potential adopters need to appreciate her beautiful singing voice. Introducing Gambit - the name's not just a coincidence; it's a testament to my ability to shape my destiny. Just like my Marvel/X-Men namesake, I've overcome my past and now look forward to a brilliantly bright future. My journey started in a rather somber place - a lonely field next to a gas station. Thankfully, kind souls would drop by, leaving me food and their hopes for a better life. One day, a persistent and resourceful lady decided to play her "pawn" and orchestrated my escape from that grim existence. Since then, I've been living with her and her doggy (and human) family. But now, I'm eagerly searching for my own forever family. Let's talk quirks. I'm a cheerful guy, but I've got some personal space boundaries. I'm protective of my face, so a home with adults or older, dog-savvy kids is my ideal match. I'm also a bit of a goofball and adore the company of other dogs. Now, I might not instantly become your best buddy; I take time to trust and get comfortable in my surroundings. But trust me, the patience will be worth it. I'm brimming with love and loyalty, just waiting for the right family to share it with. Here's the good news - I'm house and crate trained, proving that, yes, young dogs can indeed learn new tricks. Oh, and there's more - I'm pretty chill around cats, though a gentle introduction is wise. And I've been curious and respectful around a human baby, so that's a plus. One thing to note, though, is that I've had some reservations around men. Despite two years together, I haven't quite warmed up to my human's fianc and have snapped at him a few times. So, it might be best if I find a home without men. During a short stay with Kathy, I was a little shy but kept to myself. If you're looking for a loyal companion with a dash of X-Men flair and you're ready to give me the chance I deserve, let's make it happen.
