Story
When a dog arrives as an owner surrender, we never really know what to expect. Many times we don't get all the facts and we have to learn as we go. Medically and behavior-wise, we can be surprised and not always in a good way.Rocky came to us as an owner surrender and we had some surprises - and most were GREAT surprises!Rocky is a four-year-old beagle mix, already neutered, who was surrendered because of family circumstances, not because he was doing anything wrong. The only not-great surprise was that he doesn't really appreciate certain procedures at the vet. That, we can deal with! The great surprises - well, there were several! Rocky is an absolute lovebug who adores being by your side. With his adorable face, he can charm most anything out of you!Another great surprise - Rocky is a playgroup superstar! To watch him play with our energetic Posey was pure magic! We lost count of the number of play bows he gave to Posey! And doing well in playgroup is a good thing because it helps dogs deal with the stress of being in a shelter, especially when they were previously in a home. Please help us limit Rocky's days in the shelter. Is he perfect, no, but he is darn near close! And he is worth the most fabulous family to complete his life!Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.

Story
Meet Snoopy (Formerly Legalos) !! This super sweet boy was adopted several years ago and sadly returned due to no fault of his own. He originally came to us terrified with several other dogs from a hoarding situation. Since arriving back to the rescue he has done far better than we expected. He loves having other dogs around to play with and is doing very well. He is a 6 year old, male hound mix and weighs approx. 30 Pounds. He is already neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He is heartworm negative. Snoopy is a super sweet and loving boy. He can be shy and nervous at times but is steadily gaining confidence. He merged immediately into the pack of dogs at the fosters home and has been very social and loving. He does fantastic with dogs of all sizes. He would do best with another dog or several dogs. The other dogs have really helped his confidence. We have not had him around cats but his previous adopter says he doesn't like them coming near him (sounded like fear of cats vs aggressions toward them but we aren't sure) He has been fantastic with kids so far. He lived with a 5 and 7 year old in his adoptive home and has done wonderful with the fosters kids. He does need time to see everyone is safe so please make sure your kids are capable of understanding to give a dog space at first. As with any dog, children should not be climbing on, laying on, chasing, pulling ears and tails etc. Snoppy has been doing really well with his house manners. He is potty trained and has had no accidents. He does good on car rides but is a bit nervous. He seems to really like riding shotgun and does great with that. He is decent on the leash but may pull at times. He was crate trained when he was first adopted out but the family did not follow through with his training so we have been working to retrain him. Currently he does well you just have to pick him up and put him into the crate. He does not destroy the house when left alone outside of the crate so he does not really need one. He currently loves sleeping in bed with his foster family. He has a low to medium energy level. Very easy going and likes to just follow you around and hang out wherever you are. He loves to just sit with you and be petted. He will also go play with the other dogs and likes to play ball. Snoopy has not had any aggression with food, treats, or toys with people or other animals. This guy is a really good boy. Super sweet and loving. He deserves a dedicated family to return his love. If youre looking for a sweet relaxed dog to share your home with then Snoopy may be your man. Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message us directly at VillageDogResource@gmail.com with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
SWEET GIRL IS MAKING SO MUCH PROGRESS!! Still waiting for her perfect family. Meet Olivia !! This little girl is number 2 of the 4 terrified dogs we are helping. She has been through a lot. We are hoping maybe someone will take a chance on her. Maybe you’re that special person! Olivia is an approx 7 year old female Beagle mix weighing 18 pounds. She is already spayed, microchipped and updated on vaccines. Thankfully she is heartworm negative. This little lady is so super sweet but very scared. She was saved from being euthanized in a shelter but had to live outside while they tried to find a rescue for her. Due to this she has some quirks that we are working through. Her new family will have to be understanding of her needs and willing to help bring her out of her shell. She wants to love so badly; we can see it more and more every day. Currently Olivia will coexist around you but isn’t wanting you to reach out and touch her. You can however pick her up and she will tolerate it. If you are a kid she will let you touch her. I guess kids aren’t as scary to her. She will also come around and boop you on the foot with her nose if you are sitting down. She seems to want the love and attention but is also scared at the same time. She has been making huge progress and is now way more relaxed and chooses to lay close to her foster family and wants to be near them. She has done wonderful with all other dogs of every age and size. She has not been around cats with us but I doubt she would bother them. She really loves kids. They are less scary to her and she lets them touch her and be close to her. Kids will need to give her space for a day or two to let her adjust. Olivia is new to learning house rules but overall, she does really well. She is great in her crate and is not vocal in there. She has also had no potty accidents when crated. She is good in the car just scared. She has had no trouble sharing food, treats or toys with other dogs or humans. As far as potty training she will go potty outside however, she will not go on a leash. We are working hard to train her but she is terrified of a leash still. The problem she has is she was living outside and doesn’t want to come back inside. She will stay out there forever and she is really good at winning the catch me if you can game when you go to get her back in. The solution at the moment is she is let out and drags a long leash behind her so you can grab it and get her back in. We know once the fear fades away this won’t be an issue anymore but it is something her new family will have to help her get past. Due to this a fenced yard would be required for her. So far she has not tried to go over or escape a 4 foot fence. ***Once settled she has done very well with returning into the house on her own but it may take a bit in her new home for her to be ready to do that. Olivia is fairly low energy until it’s time to catch her outside. Then she is an all-star track athlete lol. Inside the house she is quiet and easy going. Very laid back and co exists well with everyone. She’s not that perfect “normal” dog most people want but if you’re one of those special people that want to really rescue and save a dog then she might be the one. We sure hope there’s someone out there willing to earn the love of this dog that’s been through so much in her short life. Once she has that break through moment and realizes there is nothing to be scared of she is going to be the most loving and loyal little lady ever! Vet and home checks required. Fenced Yard Required Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) ‼️IF INTERESTED IN ADOPTING OR FOR MORE INFORMATION Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. ‼️
