Name:   Theodore          Best Guess for Breed:   Malinois, Lab    Best Guess for Age:   8 months as of February 2025          SEX:    Male   Approximate Weight:   38 lbs as of February 2025 (but still growing!)   Gets Along With:    Other dogs! We haven't seen Theodore with kids or cats. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!    Currently Living at:   DC area boarding facility. Theodore needs a forever home!   Theodore is Looking For:    A forever home - could it be with you? I heard about another Theodore who was a former President, but all I want is a loving family to give me belly rubs and cuddle in bed with. I would love to go to obedience class with you so I can show off how smart I am. Other dogs have told me that they get treats and belly rubs when we're done! So what do you think - do you have room in your life for a sweet boy like me? What My Foster Says About Me:   Theodore is a sweet pup with a whole lot of energy and will need consistent exercise and play. He's very food motivated and I got the impression he may have been in a home before and appears to be a quick study. On a day out, Theodore walked with a good pace but didn't pull too hard on the leash and generally responded to corrections. He did well at the dog park, too. He liked playing fetch but seemed to love playing with two of the other dogs even more. He played extremely well and didn't push too hard. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:      The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Story
Sadly, due to an unexpected change in employment, I will no longer be able to properly take care of Mussa, be with her—breaks my heart. Mussa is a great dog. She is chill tempered at home: loves the couch as much as catching a tennis ball; obedient, very well house trained, loves people's company. She doesn't get along with other dogs. She should be leashed on walks at all times (tends to react aggressively to certain dogs or tries to get away from others). Avoidance strategies are best, unless she can run in a wide enclosed space. She would chase squirrels and deer if allowed! She is very affectionate and loves to be petted. She revs up and gets excited about walks or play. Her obedience and willingness to please make her easy to handle with firm kindness. She's not particularly food oriented. Her her cauliflower ear resulted from a poorly executed surgical intervention. She weighs about 60 lbs, is healthy, and is current on all her shots.

If so, Akiro might be the perfect addition to your family. Akiro is a sweet, shy boy who has faced more than his share of challenges. This gentle soul needs a special kind of adopter—someone who can provide the time and care required to help him overcome his fears and become the confident, loving companion he’s meant to be. Akiro will thrive best with someone experienced in handling anxious dogs. He needs a patient and understanding approach as he builds trust at his own pace. A calm and steady home environment will help him feel secure, and a predictable routine will make him more comfortable and confident. Positive reinforcement training is crucial for helping Akiro work through his fears. With gentle guidance, he can learn to approach new experiences with greater ease. Building trust with Akiro is a gradual process, so a dedicated owner who is committed to spending quality time with him and introducing him to new things slowly is essential. Once Akiro feels safe, he will reveal his deep affection and loyalty. His gentle nature will shine through as he begins to trust you. He enjoys quiet moments and will thrive in a serene home environment where he can relax and feel at ease. Important Note: Commitment Required Due to Akiro’s sensitive nature and the dedication needed for his development, we are not accepting returns for him. Akiro’s progress is delicate, and it’s essential that he finds a stable, committed home where he can continue his journey without interruption. Akiro needs an owner who is ready to invest in his training and socialization. Moving between homes can disrupt his progress, lead to separation anxiety, and hinder his development. If you’re prepared to offer Akiro a stable and loving environment and are committed to his ongoing growth, we invite you to consider adopting him. Your dedication will play a crucial role in helping Akiro become the confident and happy companion he’s meant to be. __________________________________If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application.Apply to adopt at: www.nerdypaws.org Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue is a foster based rescue in Springfield, VA. We do not have a shelter, all of our animals are in foster homes. We require all potential adopters to fill out an application before setting up a meeting with the animal and their foster family. Story
You wouldn't think it'd be so hard to find a foster or adopter for a beautiful young mal, but here we are posting time and time again over the last few months with absolutely no interest in our girl Phoenix! Abandoned at just 8 months old—pregnant, scared, and left on an elderly man’s property in Corpus Christi, TX—her journey has been nothing short of remarkable. She was rescued just 24 hours before going into labor, and despite being a baby herself, Phoenix gave birth to seven puppies. While not all survived, she fulfilled her motherly duties and is now ready for her Second Start in life. Phoenix is a 1-year-old Malinois mix with the energy and drive typical of her breed. She’s incredibly smart, eager to learn, and has the potential to excel at activities like agility, nose work, or obedience training. Her foster mom says she’s a quick study and loves a good challenge. She can sniff out treats like a pro and thrives on both physical and mental stimulation. Phoenix is already crate trained and house trained, though she may need a day or two to adjust to a new environment. While she does well with other dogs, she isn’t the biggest fan of cats, so a cat-free home is ideal--though she is learning to co-exist with them. Phoenix’s ideal family is active and experienced, ready to help her channel her boundless energy into fun and fulfilling activities. Whether it’s hiking, mountain biking, or long runs, she’s the perfect fitness partner. Puzzle toys and training sessions also keep her sharp and happy. Let’s get Phoenix on the road to Virginia and into the loving home she deserves! If you’re ready for a loyal, active, and intelligent companion, Phoenix might just be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Channing! Channing is a vibrant and playful pup just over 4 years old, looking for a loving forever home. Adopted from our rescue four years ago, Channing has grown into an energetic companion who loves to play catch and run around the yard. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can enjoy plenty of playtime and outdoor adventures. Channing is the perfect match for a family that enjoys an active lifestyle and can provide him with regular exercise. We were told he loves other dogs; however, since he has been in the kennel environment, he does not appear to be dog friendly. He is kid friendly though. He would love the company of older children to play with. When he's not running around, Channing is incredibly affectionate and will let you know when he wants some love and attention. He's also a pro at cozying up at the end of the bed or next to you on the couch while you watch TV or read a book. Channing is house-trained, responds well to basic commands like sit and stay, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He's also neutered and ready to be your loyal companion. With his loving personality and zest for life, Channing is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. If you're looking for an energetic, affectionate, and playful dog to join your family, Channing might just be the perfect fit! Complete our online application at animalfriendsva.org and we'll arrange a meet and greet to see if he's the one you've been looking for.

Story
To learn more about Bodey, please email: dogs@lostdogrescue.org. Bodey is a vibrant, high-energy German Shepherd who embraces life with enthusiasm and a love for adventure. True to his breed, this strikingly handsome pup thrives on activity and needs both mental and physical stimulation to stay content. With his boundless zest for life and eager-to-please nature, Bodey is an incredibly intelligent and trainable dog who has already mastered several commands. Whether it's fetching a ball, going for long walks, or hiking in the woods, he is always ready for action! Despite his lively puppy-like personality, Bodey is a loyal and dedicated dog who loves to be near his people. He’s often found at your side, napping nearby or occasionally trying to curl up in your lap for some affection. Once he warms up to you, Bodey is playful and affectionate, but he doesn’t demand constant attention—he’s independent when he needs to be, but you might get a big, goofy kiss from him if he gets a little too excited! Bodey absolutely loves chew toys/tennis balls, a good nap, and especially long walks, ideally in the woods where he can explore to his heart’s content. He’s a very strong guy who’s still learning to manage his impulses and excitability, particularly when it comes to seeing other dogs while out on walks (he’s just so eager to make new doggy friends!). In the home, Bodey has made significant progress with his training and is house-trained and crate-trained, and he even puts himself to bed each night. His protective instincts make him a great companion, but he also requires an owner who understands his need for exercise and structure and can adequately provide that to him. His ideal home would be an active one with a good-sized, fully high-fenced yard for him to run around in to help burn off some of his energy. And if kids are in the home, we recommend older ones due to his size, strength, and excitability. Prior experience owning a German Shepherd or a similar high-energy breed is a plus. Bodey would thrive in a patient, stable environment—one without cats—where he can continue to grow and learn. With plenty of exercise, consistent training, and the right loving home, Bodey will be the most loyal, loving companion anyone could ask for. If you’re ready to open up your heart and home to an active, adventurous dog, Bodey just might be the perfect match for you!

To learn more about our upcoming events and to see which event they will be attending, please visit our event page at https://www.lostdogrescue.org/events/ (*please note that the specific event pages are typically updated on Fridays with information on which dogs will be attending which events*) Meet Denise, a joyful 7-year-old German Shepherd mix with the heart of a youngster! At 69lbs, she’s full of energy and affection. Denise absolutely loves squeaky toys, tennis balls, and tug-of-war, making her the perfect playtime companion. She adores being around people and is always eager to join in on the fun—but she’s also content to wait quietly for your return. When you come home, get ready for an enthusiastic welcome with some barking and jumping, as she just can’t contain her excitement! Denise has learned some basic commands like sit, shake, and down, but her leash manners still need some work. She pulls strongly on the leash and can get distracted by passing crows, or anyone who catches her eye—sometimes leading to a playful leap or enthusiastic bark! She was kept in a basement with limited outdoor time, so she’s still adjusting to walking properly on a leash. Denise has a big heart for kids and loves to be around them, though small children are still an unknown for her. She's fully house-trained and crate-trained for road trips, where she does wonderfully in motels. Her ideal home is one without cats, as she’s not fond of them, but she gets along well with other dogs. If you're ready to bring a fun-loving, playful pup into your life who will always greet you with joy and loyalty, Denise is the dog for you! She's looking for a loving family that will continue to help her learn and grow, offering her the happy life she truly deserves.

Crow is a gorgeous Shepherd mix with a playful/goofball side when he's outside, and a gentle/calm demeanor when he's in the house. He won't jump on the furniture, even when asked! He's also been learning some commands, and knows "sit" and "down" already. Crow is treat motivated so he definitely can learn more! Crow's strength does make him better suited for an adult-only home. He's made lots of progress in playgroup and has been doing well playing with other dogs. He can be high energy, so will need a family that can continue to provide him structure and training when outside. Crow is very friendly towards people and is protective of the ones he loves. He would make a great friend for life! Consider adopting this beautiful and unique dog!
