You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Louie was surrendered to Humane Society of Wicomico County because of a negligent owner, who did not provide the proper training to a Belgian Malinois Shepherd mix, which resulted in Louie killing his neighbor's goats. He is a smart, young beautiful dog, and very sweet with humans. A Belgian Malinois mix is a working breed that does best in a home that is active and willing to provide training, and guidance. Louie will require a strong leader and someone willing to work with him. Louie is receiving training at the shelter and learning SIT and LEAVE IT. He is treat motivated. Louie seems to want to pull towards other dogs, we are not sure yet if he is aggressive towards them or wants to play. There is a video of him approaching a dog in a yard in a playful, non-aggressive manner. He may be dog selective. Louie would not do well around small children. Older children who understand how to play with a dog may be okay He would do well with a fenced yard so he cannot have free range and go off property. Louis is definitely stressed out in the shelter environment. Because our shelter is full, he is at risk of being euthanized to make space for others. Come meet handsome Beau! He is a 65 pound, 13-month-old Shepherd mix who loves to play and cuddle! If he could have it his way, every day would be full of his favorite activities: morning and evening walks, eating kibble, peanut butter, treats and bones, working (keeping squirrels out of the yard), playing fetch (as much as possible), squeaky toys are his favs, obedience training, scent training, cuddling (as much as possible), afternoon naps, and going to sleep by 8:00 pm just to have the same fun tomorrow! He does well with having a set routine. Of course, his foster parents need to work and need some breaks throughout the day, so Beau has learned how to keep himself occupied at home with his toys and chews as long as he had his requisite walk and play. Beau is perfectly house-broken and eager to learn new tricks and manners. He will go straight to his crate when commanded from anywhere in the house (although he still doesn’t like being locked inside it for too long by himself). He also is great at Sit, Stay, Lay Down, Come, Touch, and Spin. Beau could easily learn so much more because he is very smart and highly motivated by food, attention, and wanting to make you proud. One goal that we have for Beau is to show calm energy when he gets excited to see other dogs on walks and he is showing great improvement each day with positive reinforcement and training! Beau’s ideal family would be patient, active, and experienced with training dogs (or excited to learn)! Older children are a best fit. As a result, Apollo spent too much time wandering about the neighborhood and checking in with the neighbors. Unfortunately, this resulted in too many trips to animal control. Due to his frequent visits, Animal Control decided that Apollo would be safer if he moved forward with a new family. Apollo is a big, sweet guy. Although it is clear that he has not had a lot of structure prior to his arrival, he is a quick learner and seems to prefer a calm yet confident handler. Apollo has lived with a couple of cats and has done well with them. He seems unaffected by their presence and is calm with them around. Having met a variety of dogs in his travels, Apollo has made it clear that he can live peacefully with another dog. However, he is not a big fan of high-energy dogs who get in his face. However, when an unexpected event took place, they were unable to keep Bailey and provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that we would provide Bailey with everything she needed to meet with success, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to the MAGSR. Knowing this was a very difficult decision, we promised we would find Bailey the perfect forever family. Bailey is an active, intelligent, and playful girl. She loves her people fiercely and gives them every ounce of affection she has. With some very strong GSD traits, Bailey is loyal, protective, and on point. She tends to notice everything around her and keeps an eye on her people at all times. As a girl with a high prey drive, smaller creatures can be a little too enticing for Bailey. She finds joy in chasing small creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, and will need to be monitored closely if they are out and about with her. Fond of the outdoors, Bailey is always up for a long walk, hike, or adventure. She takes cues well from the handler and knows many commands. Lucky to have lived in a loving household for a few years, Bailey has developed a solid understanding of and appreciation for toys; she is hoping her forever family enjoys them too! She loves to play ball and can't help but enjoy a good squeaky toy. With a few years of experience living in a home, Bailey has also developed an affinity for a soft bed. She loves cuddling up on her dog bed and doesn't mind having a dog bed or two in the house just to change up viewpoints throughout the day. Although Bailey is crate trained and housebroken, once settled, she prefers to be out and about. This seems to keep her more settled throughout the day. DESCRIPTION: Handsome Storm lived in a home. However, due to an issue with the landlord, he was surrendered to a local shelter. Although shepherds typically struggle in shelters, Storm is special as he remained friendly and affectionate with staff. Recognizing that Storm deserved every chance to find a loving forever family, staff began searching for a shepherd rescue that would help this boy on his journey. Working with us to find the right circumstances to welcome Storm, the shelter staff provided this guy with the safety and security needed to move forward. Storm is a friendly and playful guy. He has handled all of the changes in his life like a champ. However, it is important that Storm's forever family recognize that he has been through a lot and will need time to adjust to his forever home. Having moved into an incredible foster home, Storm has been enjoying the comforts of a soft bed and calm environment. He has quickly charmed his foster family. As Storm continues to move forward, he will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. This is typical of all GSDs. Training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will training help Storm develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen. While at the shelter, staff noticed some concerns with Storms hips. They took the important steps of getting him to a vet who began running tests and x-rays. It was discovered that Storm has severe hip dysplasia. At this time his right hip is of greatest concern. However, an injury to his cruciate ligament was also found within Storm's right knee. By the time he was seen, he had already lost a lot of muscle around his hips and legs. Storm has begun to receive the care he needs to move forward. He is being monitored by our incredible vetting team while we rebuild muscle. He will also begin working with an orthopedic specialist in order to determine next steps for an orthopedic repair. Storm's care will be very expensive; however, we know he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to his medical needs. Your donation will not only help us continue to move Storm forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need.
