Story
🐶 🐕 PERKINS (aka PERK) Special Needs Male Border collie Mix 7 years, 52 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 Hi, my name is Perkins – just call me Perk - and I am about 7 years young. My Mom thinks I am a Border collie mixed with some type of guardian dog because I watch over my family and pack mates. I have notified them TWICE of rattlesnakes in our yard, barking loudly while keeping my pack mates at a safe distance away. Mom says I am a hero dog, as we have little kids and lots of dogs in our yard that need protection from dangers like that. Mom says I am special needs because I have some incontinence issues. I don't really know what that means. I let Mom and Dad know when I have to go potty, but when I am done, Mom says I leak. We've tried some different medicines and diagnostics, and Dad agrees it really isn't bad. When I hear the Velcro separate on my diaper I know its “free time” in the house. I stand still until I feel that little pat on my backside to signal it’s secure. Mom uses washable diapers, but I would probably do fine with other types as well. I don't like leaving my homestead, so when it's time for my checkup I get something special to help me relax. Everyone at the Vet’s office loves me and tells me what a good boy I am. Speaking of love, I love to chase a tennis ball. I may or may not bring it back depending on my whim at that moment. I also love to eat. Give me food, give me treats, YAY. I sit nice for my meals, which I always eat in my crate. I sleep quietly in my crate, but it's not my favorite place, and I will warn you if strangers are lurking outside because that’s my job. Oh, if you have that white stuff that’s cold, wet, and covers the ground that would be fun. I had a blast the one time it “snowed” here, that’s what my hoomans called it. Dad says he took the cutest video ever when I kept poking my nose out the doggy door, then retreated because what the heck is that? But once I was nudged out the door we had so much fun. I have been with my foster Mom and Dad for a few years and have helped with many of the other dogs and puppies that have come through our home, but I would also be fine as an only dog. I do enjoy playing at the other dog’s level. I wrestle with Skittles, because she is my size and she can take it, but I am gentIe with smaller dogs, or dogs not interested in that sort of thing. I am super friendly and loyal once I get to know you. I can be very vocal when I want something or when I am trying to warn you about something. I tolerate Mom's inside cats, but I don't like any cats in my yard. Mom says I need a cat-free environment for their benefit as well as mine (whatever that means). If you think you would be interested in me, and would like to learn even more about what makes me special, please submit an application so you can talk to my foster mom and dad (because we all know dogs can’t talk). Thank You, Perk PERKINS is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. Story
🐶 🐕 CHLOE Female Border collie mix approximately 1 Year, 39 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 ✨ Meet the Beautiful Miss Chloe! ✨ Chloe is a stunning one-year-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix, weighing approximately 39 pounds and ready to embark on her next big adventure! Chloe’s story began on a rough note — she and her sister were found abandoned on a rural road, skinny and unsure of the world. It was clear they had never experienced the warmth of a loving home or the comfort of kind human and dog relationships. 💖 But oh, how things have changed for Miss Chloe! Fast forward to today, and Chloe is blossoming into a fun, spunky girl with a heart full of love. While she can be a bit cautious in new situations (understandably so!), it doesn’t take long for her to relax and eagerly engage with the world around her. 🐾 A People-Pleaser with a Heart of Gold Chloe adores people. She’ll approach you with a soft, wiggly body and a bright, happy smile. Once you start petting her, she’ll lean in for sweet snuggles, gazing up at you with her breathtaking blue eyes — as if she’s trying to see straight into your soul. 🐕 A Social Butterfly with Her Canine Friends Chloe is fantastic with other dogs! She’s had plenty of exposure to all kinds of breeds, sizes, and personalities in her foster home — and she loves them all. Her favorite games are a good round of chase and some playful bitey-face with her friends. Chloe’s naturally submissive; if an older dog tells her to back off, she listens and responds appropriately, often flopping onto her back as if to say, “Oops! No trouble here — I’m still learning!” 🌳 Leash Skills and Exploring the World Chloe enjoys her walks and loves to engage with her environment through sniffing. She walks nicely on leash without pulling, though she’s curious about the world and likes to check everything out. Chloe is alert when she encounters new sights and sounds, but she’s learned that she doesn’t need to bark at things that surprise her. Instead, she’ll now look to her human for reassurance — and maybe a tasty snack — when something unfamiliar pops up. 🎾 Playtime and Prey Drive Chloe enjoys chasing a ball in the yard, though the whole "bringing it back" thing is still a work in progress. She has a strong prey drive, so she’d do best in a home without cats or livestock. Country living may still suit her — she loves watching the action around her with that sharp herding-dog focus. 🐶 Smart and Motivated to Learn Chloe is one smart cookie! She’s highly food-motivated, which makes training both fun and rewarding. While she doesn’t have a high toy drive (yet!), she’s thriving with positive reinforcement training and is quick to pick up new skills. Chloe may not be the next agility champion, but she’ll make an incredible companion dog. 🚀 Impressive Recall and Off-Leash Potential Chloe already has an excellent recall, which speaks to her eagerness to connect with her person. Once your relationship is established and Chloe knows she’s home, she may be a good candidate for off-leash hiking in safe environments. With the right foundation and trust, Chloe could become the perfect trail buddy! 🏡 Easy to Live With Once Chloe’s exercise and mental needs are met, she’s an easygoing housemate. She is not a “higher-energy” border collie. She’s crate trained and house trained, and when it’s time to wind down, she’ll happily settle in with a chew toy or curl up for a cozy nap. Chloe is ready to find her forever home — could it be with you? If you’re looking for a sweet, playful, and loyal companion, Chloe might just be your perfect match. CHLOE is micro-chipped, spayed, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about CHLOE, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. CHLOE is fostering in Orangevale in Sacramento County, CA.

🐶 🐕 FORREST Male Border collie mix 9 months, 33 lbs & AVAILABLE – check out more photos and see the rest of our dogs on our website -- https://norcalbcrescue.org/available-dogs/our-dogs/ 🐕 🐶 FORREST is a delightful but shy BC mix with a soft, curly black and white coat, medium in length. His front feet have short white socks while his back feet are both tipped in white. He is approximately 9 months of age and 33 pounds. He loves mealtime, but only shows mild motivation for treats. As FORREST gets more comfortable around his people we believe he will be more praise motivated. He also enjoys chewing on bones and toys. You’ll want to keep plenty around as he has been known to steal a shoe or two (no damage, just a collector). FORREST enjoys couch time but really loves “Walksies.” When he hears the word he pops up and enthusiastically heads for the door. He’ll follow pretty close, occasionally taking lead, but mostly lets the humans lead the way. He really got a boost when he was introduced to our other dogs. They all get along great. He enjoys engaging in “chase the birds high in the sky” with Perkins and Skittles. We just moved him into the dog room and he is really settling in, enjoying the company and the routine. Routine is going to be very important for Forrest’s continued development. FORREST is reserved around new people and new things, and will do best with positive reinforcement, praise, and confidence building. He is crate trained and sleeps quietly all night. Forrest is doing well with his house training, having been accident free after a couple days of getting used to things. He learned to navigate the doggy door very quickly. He’ll need some leash work (likes to mouth the leash). He did not travel well on his recent trip to the vet (car sickness) but working with him on short fun trips hopefully will get him over that. FORREST will be ok as an only dog, but would benefit from the company and mentorship of another dog either in the household or nearby for playdates. If you are patient with Forrest we think he will be a loyal cuddle bug who will enjoy the outdoors as much as snuggling inside or just flopping at your feet. If you like cute and not over the top active that some border collies are, FORREST may just be the boy for you and we’d love to hear from you. FORREST is micro-chipped, neutered, heartworm negative and on preventative, and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you have an approved Northern California Border Collie Rescue & Adoptions Adoption Application (https://norcalbcrescue.org/adoption/adoption-application/) and wish to inquire about FORREST, please email us at Adoptions@norcalbcrescue.org. FORREST is fostering north of Corning in Tehama County, CA.

Story
Boomer is a sweet dog with a lot of energy. He loves being petted and going for walks. He does not do well with farm animals (goats, horses, chickens) as he has an innate sense to herd them- without the proper training a herding dog would need. He would be great for a family or with anyone who will love on him or have the time to take him out to burn off energy.
