Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Reina! This very sharp (sharp looking too!) girl came to us as a local stray found outside of Homestead and brought into the Iowa County Pound via law enforcement. After never being reclaimed, Reina was brought up-to-date on her medical veterinary care, found herself a beautiful name (Reina in Spanish means "Queen"), and is now ready to begin her search for her new forever home! Although she hasn't been with us long, we have learned a couple characteristics about her that we'd like to share. Reina is a high-energy gal - she enjoys going for walks and getting lots of needed exercise to keep her mind at ease. Any interested party should keep this in mind while considering Reina, knowing that she will need exercise (and a fenced-in yard would be great for her too!)  She has loved (and "hugged") every person she has met while being with us, so we know she will continue to be a charmer in her new home. She has a beautiful coat that will need maintenance like brushing. Upon her arrival, she had several burrs caught in her fur but was patient and allowed for the removal of these after gaining our trust. Estimated to be just a over two years old, Reina has lots of great spunk, personality, and liveliness to offer.  If you're searching for a lifelong companion, Reina may be your girl. Please complete an online adoption application as the first step of our meet & greet process. This application can be found on our website at www.wesavepets.com. Once the application has been submitted, a Safe Haven volunteer will be in contact to discuss the next steps of the meeting process. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 18, 2024, 6:06 pm

Story
Absolutely! Let me introduce you to the wonderful dog named Cathy! Cathy is a social butterfly who loves to chat and interact with her human companions! 🐶💬 Cathy is a friendly and outgoing pup who gets along well with other dogs, making her the perfect playmate for your furry friends! 🐾🐶 However, she isn't a big fan of cats, so it's best to find a cat-free home for her. 😺❌🐾 She's also great on a leash and enjoys going for walks, exploring the world around her. Plus, Cathy is a loyal companion with good recall who loves to follow her person around and be part of the action! 🚶‍♀️🐾 Now, it's important to note that Cathy can get quite excited and may jump up when she's thrilled to see you. But with consistent training and a dedicated space, she has the potential to become calmer over time. 🙌🏼🏡 If you're looking for a dog who is dog-friendly, and ready to play, Cathy could be your perfect match! Get ready for endless adventures, loving companionship, and lots of tail wags with this enthusiastic and lovable pup! 🏡🐶❤️

Story
Pips! I literally cannot get enough of this sweet girl! When she greets ANYONE, EVERYONE, and ANYTHING it is ALWAYS with a wiggling butt and happy tail! Often throwing kisses in as she can, as well! Pips offers her belly for some rubs all the time, it's like she can't get enough of them. As she wiggle worms around, KNOWING how irresistible her puppy dog eyes are. At about 6 months old, Pips currently weighs about 35 pounds, so we don't reckon she will be getting too big very soon! Despite being so young, and such a big baby, this sweet girl's foster family has been teaching her ALL of the basics, so that you don't have to. While living in foster, she's surrounded by kids, cats, and other dogs, ensuring she's social, crate trained, AND housebroken! *I am in a foster home so please call before you come so I can make sure I am there for you! My adoption fee is WAIVED! This fee covers all of my vaccines, microchip, nex/heartguard, heartworm test, AND my spay/neuter! Think I might be the perfect fit for your home? You can apply for me here https://animalwelfarefriends.org/adopt/application/ OR you can apply in person when you come visit me any day during business hours! You can even adopt me that same day once approved!! Please Note: All adoptions are on a first-come first served basis with approved adoption applicants. We do not hold animals unless the adoption is out-of-state, and fees apply. The animal's welfare is our first and only priority, in doing so, they are moved from the shelter into their respective homes as quickly, & humanely as possible to remove the risk of undergoing extreme stress, immune system compromisation, & behavioral concerns. DISCLAIMER: Genetic Breed accuracy is NOT guaranteed; we assess by the following: Interview with or paperwork from with the previous owner Intake evaluation observations (behavior, physical appearance, and energy level) Source documents from which to analyze characteristics Consultation with other staff

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, I’m Duke! I am a charming, happy, Cattle Dog mix.  I love to go for walks  or runs  (and I am really good at it!). I also love car rides, stuffed animals, and playing in a fenced-in backyard. I am completely house trained,  crate trained ,  and am very intelligent. I know what sit, lay down , and stay mean, but I could use some more training to work on those commands and anything else you want to teach me.  I love to run and play; I have a whole lot of energy, but I also love to cuddle, give kisses and be loved by my human companion .  Basically, I just like to be doing what my people are.   I am very cautious of new people. I really prefer to come check you out first, and I really rather you don’t pet me until I know you will treat me with kindness.  I may  have to meet you a couple times before  I know I can trust you .   I can’t tell my friends at Last Hope what happened to me before I came to stay with them, but all they know is that it takes me a while to trust people and be comfortable in situations.  Because of this, I should not be in a home with young kids or teens.  My dream home would be with an adult family who is familiar with my kind of challenges and who has a physically fenced in yard. I also want 1 other playful dog around my size (50 pounds+) or bigger  to play with (I can play a little rough so they need to be tough like me) and a family who is very patient with me while I adjust to new people in my life.  I am a very loyal companion and I just want to please my humans!   Once I know I can trust you, I just want to be around you and will be your shadow as you go through your day.  I have also had my DNA tested! I am officially an Australian Cattle Dog/Harrier mix!    Last Hope requires that all pets be kept as indoor pets, be altered and current on vaccinations and preventatives. Our adoption process includes reference and vet checks and a home visit. The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 8:30 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bear is a very handsome blue heeler, looking for an experienced dog owner to have a GREAT life with! Bear is super smart, and he loves to play with other dogs around his size. He requires a home with a playful and submissive canine companion near his size, he especially responds well to female dogs.  Bear is kennel trained as well as potty trained.  He loves to go for long walks and explore, he will make a superb companion for a very lucky owner! Bear does have stranger danger/reactive fears, he came to Last Hope very untrusting of people.  He has done great working with a firm and consistent handler, and will require this is his forever home but will likely always be initially reactive to strangers. Our volunteers have worked with him and found him to be a very friendly and affectionate dog, although he still requires slow and controlled introductions with strangers and will need an owner that appreciates his breed and unique needs.  No children, no cats and preferably a homeowner with a physical fenced in yard.  Bear's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, current vaccinations, and microchip.  last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor pets only, current on preventatives and vaccinations, and be altered.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 8:30 am
