Story
Meet Jax! When it comes to meeting new friends, this two-year-old border collie mix belongs in the friendship hall of fame! All 50 pounds of him is eager to be part of your world. Jax is a spectacular pup that just wants to be part of the action. He loves to engage and will do best in an environment where he can get lots of exercise and enrichment. He's a very smart fella and loves having a job to do. A nice yard to enjoy is a must for this fun-loving pup! Before coming to GLDR, Jax lived in a home with other dogs and we feel he has the potential to do so again. Sadly, his previous owners had health issues and they surrendered him when they could no longer look after him. A fan of all sorts of tasty treats, Jax will sit nicely for food. He's always so grateful for his time with our volunteers and is excited to be near you. Not only does he have the most dazzling smile, he is very affectionate and eager to please. Jax always makes time to snuggle and will make his new family happy for years to come. He never misses a chance for a well-deserved belly rub either! Based on our evaluation, we feel Jax would do well in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. He may have the potential to live in a home with other dogs as he has done well with them in the past. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. If you think he could the pup you've been searching for, head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our jubilant Jax!

Story
What a smile Coco has! She is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 41 pounds. Coco is a young, gorgeous girl with a connecting and playful nature. She is an intelligent and energetic pup who loves soft toys and spending time with her favorite people. Coco is very affectionate and loves nothing more than being in your lap or staying close to you. She is very engaged with you and will form a strong bond with her new owner. She has mastered the "wait" command with her toys and knows basic commands like "sit." Coco has a lot of energy and would thrive in an active home that can give her the attention, exercise, and love that she deserves. She is very smart and catches on quickly, so she should be able to learn new tricks and commands with some basic obedience training. A home with an adopter who has experience with the herding breed would be perfect. If you’re looking for a loving and loyal companion, please come and meet her. Coco will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old. She came to the rescue with her best friend Romeo, it would be wonderful if they could be adopted together as they are a bonded pair, but we do understand if they have to be separated. If you are interested in Coco and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
***Anita is in a foster home, so she is not at the kennel. If you are interested in her, please fill out an application at K9stray.com and we will be in touch. Thank you.*** What a little darling Anita is! She is estimated to be about 4 months old and weighs 13 pounds right now. How to describe Anita? Cute, small, quiet, sweet, shy. The tail wags are heart melting. She wants to love but needs a bit more time before she comes out of her shell. While we build her confidence, she is enjoying dog beds, playing, and snuggling with the other dogs. She has met kitties and chickens with curiosity and kindness. She is crate trained, good in the car, and potties when taken outside. She is about 75% housebroken and will be in no time. A home with another confident dog would be wonderful. She likes to play but is not hyper. When our home is quiet, she finds an open dog bed and settles in. She is not needy or a velcro dog. She is 'easy'. Food, love, and a fur friend will set her up to live her best life. If you are interested in Anita and are at least 21 years old, please fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. Story
MEET LAYLA! Age: 1 year  Weight: 49 lbs  Breed: Border Collie   Layla is a beautiful 1-year-old Border Collie who was surrendered to the shelter when her previous owner no longer had the time to dedicate to her. This sweet and active girl is now on the lookout for a devoted family who can keep up with her energetic spirit!  Layla is full of life and loves to play. She displays the classic intelligence and eagerness to please that is characteristic of her breed. She is totally house trained and crate trained, however she could use some improvement with her leash manners. With consistent training, you can help her become the well-mannered companion she strives to be! Given Layla’s active nature, she is seeking a dynamic family that can engage her physically and mentally. As a working class breed, Border Collies thrive in environments where they can exercise and play. Layla would love an avid walking/running partner, but also likes to explore and would love to have the freedom to run and play safely in a secured yard.  Layla would do best with mature, dog-savvy children due to her young age and inherent herding tendencies. She is not recommended for a home with cats due to a prey drive, and she has enjoyed the company of select canine friends - but tends to be more of a loaner and enjoys the companionship of her people. She may take a minute to warm up to a new face but once she does her devotion is unconditional. Layla is not suited for apartment, condo, or mobile home living, as she needs space to stretch her legs and explore. A home where she can play and grow will help her thrive. As a Border Collie, Layla will require routine brushing to maintain her beautiful coat and keep it healthy. She has it all - brains and beauty - knows commands like sit, will give paw and then give you her other paw! She truly is incredibly smart! She likes to play with toys and is very sporty, which could blossom into an exciting future with her drive and determination! She also loves to go for car rides and is excited for every road trip she gets to accompany her foster family on! If you're an active family ready to welcome a beautiful and spirited and loving pup into your life, Layla might be the perfect match for you! She is eager to learn, play, and become a cherished member of your family. Don’t miss the chance to meet this sweet girl and give her the forever home she deserves! Let’s find Layla her forever family—she's ready to bring joy and adventure into your home!  Layla is:Current on Rabies and DistemperDewormedHeartworm Tested: NegativeReceiving Heartworm and Flea PreventionMicrochippedSpayedADOPTION FEE: $250 IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI.
