Story
Kismet is a 2-year-old neutered male, black/white mixed breed, he’s been called a border collie mix and a lab mix but he is 100% gorgeous. He weighs around 45 pounds and is UTD on all vaccines, heartworm negative, and on preventative for heartworm and flea/tick. Kismet was hours from being euthanized due to high anxiety and being nervous and stressed. We were able to pull him and get him into our care and although he was very shy, and confused, he came out of his shell very quickly. His demeanor is more that he needs to get to know you a little first but once he deems you “ok” his personality shines. He very much loves to play with toys, and he thrives on being right next to his person. If ever there was a loyal dog, Kismet is exactly that. His intelligence is off the charts, and we believe the training ability for just the basics will be an easy chore as he is food motivated, except milk bones, he isn’t interested in those. He does know “sit” and so was trained at some point, but we think he would be a perfect companion. He is a sweet boy and gets along well with all his foster dogs that he is with. He is far too interested in cats so we feel he would be best in a home without cats as it is hard to determine if he wants to play or has more on his mind, siding with caution. He is great in a kennel but overall does great outside the kennel. He is housebroken to the degree that he has a routine now that works so it would just be setting a new routine, and he will get that pretty quickly. This handsome boy with soulful eyes is available now for adoption so if you are interested in adopting him, please fill out an adoption application. His adoption fee is $375 to cover some of his vetting costs.

Story
Came in as a lost dog and the owner didn't reclaim.12/12/14: Lyla is a cutie! She can be a shy gal in her kennel and takes a bit to settle in with new people. Lyla loves to get outside to explore and smell the roses. She would love a home where she can go on daily walks in the park. Due to her shyness it is suggested that Lyla meet all family members, including children, prior to adoption. During the temperament test Lyla was a bit shy of another dog her size. Overall she was friendly but it might be a good idea for her to meet other dogs prior to adoption. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 45.9 Age: 9yrs 8mths 1wks

Story
My name is Bessie and my foster mom says I am the sweetest girl ever! I am bashful and shy at first but willing to become friends. I have two big dogs in my foster home and I love being their shadow and hanging out with them everywhere they go. I would really like my forever home to have another dog in it to play with me and help me build my confidence. I am submissive and would likely follow the lead of any confident dog. I love to be outside and wander the backyard- bonus if you have a squeaky ball I can fetch. I’ve just started doing zoomies and boy are those fun! I am still pretty scared of being on a leash, so a fenced yard is required in my new home to keep me safe. I am housetrained and kennel trained. I sleep all night without a peep. I love my kennel, it’s my safe space. I am a little nervous in the car but sit very nicely and calm. I like the older kids in my foster home, it’s fun when they play ball with me or give me treats. And they brush me which I really like. I think little kids would scare me as they are a bit more unpredictable and noisy. I am doing very well adjusting to all the new things in my foster home. My foster mom says I am such a good girl and very smart. I would love to find a forever home that will be patient and help me continue to come out of my shell, could that be you? Bessie is a Border Collie/Lab mix who was was born approximately 4-3-23 and weighs 40 lbs. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, given flea/tick preventative, dewormed, tested heartworm negative and started on heartworm prevention. Adoption fee is $400 to help offset the many expenses we have for vetting costs. We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to continue to save the lives of orphaned & abandoned pets; 100% goes towards their care. Good with dogs,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Primrose is an adorable puppy who is full of personality, has one blue eye, and is a bundle of cuteness! She enjoys the company of others (both furry and human) and loves to play tug and fetch. She is making great progress with her crate and potty-training! As long as she gets her playtime and goes potty before bedtime, she will sleep through the night. She likes to start her day early and is a morning cuddlebug. She loves stuffed animals. She has the cutest butt wiggles and sweet little howl when she is feeling lonely. She gives all the appropriate signs when she needs something and is a wonderful puppy! She is currently learning 'sit' and to do it before she gets out of the crate, as well as before going outside for a potty break. She would love a furry companion to play 'keep away with', and tug, of course. She currently lives with a one 8 year old dog that she gets along great with, as well as two adults and a teenager. She can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly with a little reassurance and safety. She is curious about new sounds and likes to explore once she feels safe.Like any of our dogs, this sweet, beautiful girl would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs.  Because of that, Prim's ideal owner will have prior GSD or other herding breed experience, and a friendly dog buddy.  Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember  that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.   Prim's adoption fee is $395, all of which goes back into offsetting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped. Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply.   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.August 15, 2024, 8:18 pm

He can seem a little more reserved when he first greets you, but he really just wants some one-on-one cuddles, and just melts into your arms when held. Colt is pretty content to lay down and chew on a toy with an occasional light wrestling session thrown in. He is still working on adult skills like walking on leash and potty training since he is just a baby. He gets along with everyone including other animals but is still a puppy so he may need some minor guidance to mind his manners. He is a wonderful puppy with a great personality!
