Story
Moe is growing into quite a curious and handsome pup! He's currently about ~43lbs and 5 and a half months old. He knows his name and answers to it well, and being super food-motivated means he's been quick to pick up on tricks and commands (he knows Sit and Down, and he's working on Touch and Wait!). He's fully potty-trained, and sleeps well in his playpen/kennel overnight (or in bed with you, if that's what you prefer!) He plays well with other dogs, and absolutely loves social time with puppy friends, but can be a bit shy and nervous when first meeting a new dog - give him 20 minutes and he'll make a new BFF! He's very sweet (that's why we call him Moeberry Biscuit!) and loves to give kisses and snuggles. He is a pretty relaxed pup who stays calm and quiet most of the day while I work from home. He does get wild puppy energy though and loves to do zoomies around the backyard and the house! He does very well on leashed walks around the neighborhood, loves exploring new parks and places, and is a pro at car rides! At breweries, he typically shelters under a table or wherever he can find shade, unless there's friends to play with!Moe would do best with a medium to large-sized canine companion in his life, but he's also perfectly happy entertaining himself with chewy bones, squeaky toys and lots of love, exercise and attention from his people! If you are interested in this animal please start by filling out an adoption application at http://www.CFP-NC.org/adoptions and we will get in touch with you.

Story
Rico is a playful, silly, energetic 8mo old pure bred border collie. My husband and I got him as an 8 week old puppy and underestimated the amount of training and structure he needs that, with both of our busy schedules, we are not able to provide. We live in a small apartment runs through, in circles and we feel we are constricting him of a life he really deserves. Due to our schedules he has been inside for a majority of his time with us and has grown some behavioral issues when going outside. This started about 2 months ago toward anyone or anything that moves. He is only getting stronger and more aggressive to the point I am barely able to contain him once he is triggered and have tried many methods of deterring or preventing is but he is a smart and observant dog… that’s what he’s made for. We are hoping to find him a loving home with lots of time, space and patience to handle his big personality. He’s really goofy and cuddly.

Story
Our family adopted Millie when she was about 2 months old. Millie is a sweet girl, but as our family has grown and our dog allergies have worsened, she would benefit from being in a new home with lots of space to run around and where she can get more one on one attention. Millie is extremely intelligent and follows commands well, however, she is an anxious dog. With our growing family, she has become even more anxious with the commotion of having younger kids in the home. Millie does fair with other dogs but can occasionally get rowdy when on the leash and wants to say hi to another dog but feels restricted. She has a lot of love to give, and she would be the perfect companion for someone who is equally energetic!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Online Adoption Application › Bundle of Loving EnergyCricket is a 20-month-old bundle of loving energy. If you are looking for an active companion, a hiking or running partner, she might be your girl! She would also be fun to play any sport with, she is both food and toy motivated, wants to please and does not ever run out of energy. Her legs are spring loaded and will leap to any height to catch a frisbee or a ball. She absolutely loves water and is fearless on boats and floats. The sky is the limit for her sports potential, she could be a fantastic dock diving dog, she could play frisbee, flyball, agility or obedience with the right training. She does settle down nicely after a good walk or play session and is snoozing under my desk as I write this bio. She is good in a crate and loves car rides.Cricket loves human beings of any age. She is great with children however she is exuberant and would knock over a toddler in an instant, she would probably be better with slightly older kids who enjoy a playmate. She will chase a ball all day long for them!Cricket first came to the Carolina Border Collie Rescue as a little black and white puppy, but turned out not to be a Border Collie. Cricket was adopted out to a great family but unfortunately animosities developed between her and the other dog in the household, an alpha female, that could not be remedied and resulted in fights between the two dogs. Cricket was returned to CBCR and therefore now has to find a family without other pets. She could potentially be matched to a larger, good natured male dog who is not easily offended by Cricket who has little sense for other dog’s personal space or boundaries. She gets along fine with a male dog in her foster home. Cricket has met a myriad of dogs on walks and never displayed any reactivity in that setting. She will need a fenced-in yard (no electric fencing) where she can chase her ball safely.contact info: Gabriela Seiler Seilergs@gmail.com 215 292 8297   Cricket is fostered in Holly Springs, NCVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 20, 2024, 1:07 pm

Story
(DOB 02/26/2017) Mack aka Tux is a super sweet; gorgeous, stunning, well behaved, ~70+ pounds of love! Half of Mack's Adoption Fee has been SPONSORED by a generous donor, Just $150 to adopt this Handsome Hunk!! He is good with other dogs, cats and kids!  The trifecta!  He seems to gravitate towards kids and wants to be with them; just make sure the kiddos are older (~10+) becuase of his size.  He wouldn't want to accidently knock down a smaller child with his love and affection.  He was very afraid of his foster family's cats (kind of cute and funny) when he first arrived. He is becoming more interested in them and will chase in play but easily redirected. Mack could be an only dog, but he'd probably be happier with some fun, playful siblings. He does well with other dogs and is submissive even with his larger size. He is going to be an awesome addition to a full house!  Mack would love to be in a home with an active family where he could be outside a lot. He would really, really like a 5ft+ fenced yard to run, zommie, and romp around in!  He likes playing with toys, some good ole tug-o-war (he typically gives up first) and playing with other dogs.  He likes grabbing a stuffie and pulling and tugging on it with his foster furry family members.  Mack likes to use his voice and "chat" with his furry foster siblings...he has cute vocals. He wouldn't be a perfect fit for apartment or condo for these reasons. Mack is house trained but not really crate trained.  He has selected a favorite chair and a dog bed that he finds much more to his liking. He is well behaved and happy in his home environment.  He would be happy curled up in front of a roaring fire or on the sofa after a good play time. Mack would love someone who works from home/home most of the time, so he could have loads of attention. Mack loves the car and would be happy with a family that is on the go!  Do you travel and need a companion, do you have a RV and go many places and camp then Mack may be the pup for you!  He loves to go with you and would be a great camping/hiking buddy as he loves to exercise. He does have some seperation anxiety, and will chew things if left alone on ocassion (he is almost never alone) so even more reason to take him with you!  Plus, when you are out and about, he is good on a leash and well behaved.  He is a GEM! As part of Mack's $300 adoption fee, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age appropriate vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.  If you have questions about this sweet boy, you can email Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Mack, you can fill in an online application for him under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org. ##1558926##

Story
Lucy is an adorable Border Collie mix with a great smile! She loves going on long walks and even sits politely when you leash her to go outside. Lucy enjoys traveling and is a great running partner. She loves snuggles and belly rubs. Lucy does well with sleeping on her own, with free access to her crate. She is a good listener, and overall well-behaved other than her jealousy/aggression issues. She is an anxious dog and we have given her calming medications in the past. Lucy was originally owned by a relative that adopted her from a shelter. Our relative could no longer care for her because of how active Lucy is. Our relative had a chihuahua and three other cats that Lucy did well with. From what we have seen in the past, Lucy does well with kids. We have seen that she must warm up to younger men.

Story
Key words: • chill vibes• affectionate• Affectionate towards people• not good with other dogs• heartworm positive; ongoing treatment• good working from home• not a barkerMy name is Rolando, but you can call me Rolly, and I am an 8 year old Australian cattle dog mix.I was at the Wake County Animal Shelter from June to July before going home with a foster family. If you want a low-maintenance, chill-energy dog, then I'm the one you're looking for.I enjoy lounging, looking for affection, and walks (which have to be shorter because I'm heartworm positive).I love meeting new people. If I see someone, I will want to go say hi, which is great, because I'm a big hit in this neighborhood! However, I am very up-front with other dogs and can't help myself with boundaries - I like to go right up to them and this is off-putting to most other dogs. For this reason, I need to be monitored closely when I'm around other dogs.I'm neutered, housebroken, and receiving treatment for my heartworms and I'm ready to bring love and affection to a new family. Story
CarsonNeutered Male DogGood with dogsNo children/children over 14 onlyHousetrainedCrate-trainedWeight 45.0About Carson: Meet Carson, a.k.a. our little teddy bear, a pint-sized cattle dog mix who is full ofpersonality! This sweet boy embodies the typical cattle dog personality – always ready to be in the mixof things and always making sure his humans are keeping his days filled with his favorite things: chewtoys, outside zoomie times, walkies, and of course dinner! Carson is full of energy when its time to play, but also loves a good snuggle (on his terms of course) when its time for TV and bed. True to cattle dogform, he is full of opinions on where he and his humans should be and needs reminding to keep mouthyplay under control. For that reason, we recommend households with older/no children.Training and Habits:Potty Training: Carson has been doing great with his potty training! He had a few accidents in hisfirst weeks in foster (mostly marking), but those have become few and far between as he’sgotten used to the swing of things. And he’s been accident free since his neuter!Crate: Toss a treat in the crate, and Carson will go in happily. He does not like to be forced intothe crate, and will give you a growl/look back. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night, but willbark for a couple minutes if you put him in during the day and he hears you still moving about.Leash: Carson’s getting the hang of things on a leash. He has an old hip injury (see health below),so we’ve been keeping walks on the shorter side and letting him choose the pace. He’s beenworking on loose leash walking – so far a lot of pulling with excitement at the start, but heresponds well to you stopping when you hit the end of the leash. On a leash, he shows interestin other dogs, but passes them well and has been non-reactive.Playtime: Like most cattle dogs, Carson has spurts of high energy! He redirects to toys well whenhe gets mouthy. So far, he’s been excellent at chasing balls but we’re still working on theretrieving. He also loves playing gentle tugs with us or playing hard with our cattle dog mix.Cuddles and Comfort: Carson loves being near his family! He does whine a bit when we/our dog leaves, but will settle after a few minutes. He is a constant companion, and loves curling up in your lap whenyou sit on the ground. He also will come snuggle on the couch with a big ole leap from all four paws atonce! He does have opinions on surprise snuggles though, and will let you know if you invade his spacewith a growl.Exercise Needs: Since Carson has an old hip injury, we try to keep his higher impact activities self-directed. He gets his zoomies out in our backyard, and plays hard with our pup. We try to keep his walksto 1 mile or less a few times per week, although he may be able to build on this. We keep his mind busywith Kongs/lick mats and we’re working on teaching him to take treats gently since we think this smartguy would take pretty well to trick training!Ideal Home: Carson’s ideal home is somewhere where he can be with his people and safely get hiszoomies out! Since we worry that daily long walks may be hard on his hip, he’d probably do best in ahome where he has a fenced yard or daily access to an enclosed outdoor space. He gets along well withour spayed female dog, but we also think he’d be fine with his humans all to himself! Adults only or ahome with respectful, older children is best since he is mouthy with play and has opinions about hisbodily autonomy.Health: Carson is neutered, microchipped, dewormed and up-to-date on his shots. He is heartwormpositive and going through treatment. He also has a broken pelvis that healed on its own slightly out ofplace. This does cause him some pain that is well managed with a low-cost pain med regime. SecondChance is happy to provide your vet with his x-rays and discuss this treatment plan.***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. If someone has caught your eye and you wish to arrange a meet and greet, we do need you to fill out the adoption application. When your adoption application is received our screening team will verify the information given. Once your application has been confirmed and approved, we will be send it over to the foster parent for review to determine if your home is a good match for the dog. In the event one lucky dog receives multiple applications, please know we do not select based on a first come basis. We try our best to select the best-fit for our animals and families. ***
