Story
IRMO - 8 years, 14lbs, Boston Terrier Mix, Neutered This dog is joining Social Tees on 7/13 and is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program starting that day. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Level of dog ownership experience needed: FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy level LOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs socializing opportunities outside the home and a little mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice or chew items. Potty trained? Probably! Seniors usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. Seniors tend to need potty breaks more often than younger dogs though, and they can lose their ability to fully control their potty habits as they continue to age, so willingness to be flexible with cleanup and wee pads if necessary is important.  Social with other dogs? Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some enjoy the company of other calm dogs, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Probably. Seniors are usually mellow enough that they are able to coexist well with cats.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision) We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Okay in the city? We don’t know yet. Most seniors do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs. Medical status Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees: Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc

Story
Comet!! Life of the puppy party till he’s not. This guy loves to play for about 15 whole minutes then sleep for three times that long. Comet”s tiny little face just makes you wanna squeeze him to death. He is as cute as a button and everything puppy. He has a somewhat bigger foster mate that for some reason likes to pick on him, but he can hold his own in a puppy romp. He’s going to make a great companion for some lucky family. Our transport heads to the north east every week. RescueVet transport goes all the way up to Rhode Island, delivering fur friends to their forever homes. (Transport is an additional $185.00). If you’d like to make this guy the prince of the family, please follow our link below to fill out an adoption application. https://forms.gle/APKvbgFJcaRvgKgk9

Story
Hello! We found this pup (appears to be around 1-2) we have posted signs, checked if he is microchipped, and haven't been able to find his owner. He is great with children and animals, he isn't neutered. Our family cannot afford to take care of his medical needs or we would keep him. He doesn't have any health concerns, he does mark but that could probably fixed once he gets neutered. He is goofy, happy, loyal, and smart... he just needs the right home to help him. He would be best with kids 5+ but he gets along so well with other dogs and cats.

Story
Maxwell is ready to find his forever family. This handsome guy seems good with kids and other dogs. Still needs to be tried with cats. He keeps his area clean. Maxwell is 14 pounds and a whole lot of funny. He loves to be outside and would be a great exploration buddy. Maxwell is about 3-4 years old. We think he is some sort of Boston terrier/jack Russel mix? Who knows whatever he is, IS CUTE. 😍

Story
weight 13 lbs age: 2 years  adoption donation: $799       Meet Batgirl! This sweet and gentle girl was found wandering alone in a rural part of Tennessee, a local family took her in and posted extensively to see if she’d been lost, but no one came looking for her.       Since then, Batgirl has won the hearts of everyone she’s met. She is smart and gentle, gets along great with the other dogs in the family and loves to snuggle. She adores car rides  and likes to eat bananas and watermelon! Batty lives with a young child and is very gentle with him. She likes to play fetch and occasionally will have the zoomies. Batty has all the wonderful Boston terrier qualities, she gives lots of kisses amd likes to sleep with her person, she especially likes to perch on the top of the pillow by your head. She lives with two cats and aside from an occasional sniff, ignores them.     The vet estimates Batgirl is about two years old. She’s heartworm negative and is up-to-date on vaccines and will be spayed shortly. Batty will be ready  to travel to the northeast the weekend of July 12. She would fit in well in almost any kind of home, she would love people around for company and another dog to play with, but she’s also fine on her own, she will snuggle on a dog bed and greet you at a very waggy tail  when you come home       Wags is a licensed 501 C3 where one woman takes care of almost 150 homeless and stray dogs many of them have expensive medical needs.. Adoption fees include transport, vaccinations, microchip, and spay or neuter.  for more information on Batgirl or any of our rescue dogs please email Mariaeftimiades@yahoo.com  July 14, 2024, 4:18 pm
