Sam is an energetic big boy that thinks he is a lap dog. He has never met a stranger and his bark is certainly bigger than his bite. He is a lover boy. He has never bitten anyone, we have another dog and cat which he is great with. Sam has been around numerous children and adults with zero problems. Sam would do best with a large fenced area to run and someone who is energetic, he LOVES walks, but will pull because he is so excited. He sleeps in a crate at night and lives for treats and his toys.

Very sweet and calm, Sadie was found as a stray. She is estimated 1 year old and weighs 41 pounds. She has a gorgeous dark brindle coat. Sadie takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once she does, her tail never stops wagging. Sadie is medium to low energy. She keeps a clean kennel here in the shelter, which is a great sign for housetraining. She is up to date on vaccines, has tested negative for heartworm disease and her adoption fee includes a voucher for the mandatory spay and microchip.

Luke and his sister came into Ruff Love Rescue as a bonded pair. They came to us after their previous owner encountered medical issues that left her unable to continue to care for them. Luke and his sister Lizzie didn't care too much for other dogs, but they loved one another and were devoted to one another. Unfortunately, in April of 2024, Lizzie's health deteriorated significantly and she died, leaving Luke alone, without his sister. He is, as you can imagine, a little lost without his sister. He doesn't like it when another dog gets in his face, so to be safe, it would be best if he were an only dog. Luke's vet estimated year of birth is 2011. Luke is such a sweet dog. He would make a great companion, especially to someone who can provide a warm room with a soft bed and a loving touch. Luke is house trained. He's a sweet older gentleman who would love a home. Meet Poseidon, who comes to us from the Cabarrus County Animal Shelter. Poseidon is 1 year old and 48 lbs. He has the sweetest demeanor that will melt your heart. Poseidon loves to crawl into your lap and would make an amazing family dog. He is still learning the ropes when it comes to walking on a leash, but his determination and adorable pancake crawl to his destinations will leave you grinning from ear to ear. He is current on all of his vaccinations and is scheduled to be neutered within the next few weeks. Poseidon is currently living in boarding and is also in need of a foster home. Dean recently went on a Dog Day Out and here's what his DDO buddy had to say! "We took Dean on a Dog's Day Out and had the best time today! Dean is cute as a button and has a sweet personality too. Dean visited Petsmart, Ross, and Lowe's with us and was quite well-behaved. Next he enjoyed playtime at Sweetwater Court Private Dog Playground and Gardens! Afterward we had lunch at Freddy's and Dean had a tasty pup cup. We visited my dad and stepmom downtown and Dean had a little stroll through the park. Dean also visited our house briefly before it was time to go back to the shelter. Details about Dean: About 1 year old-he is young but past puppy wildness 43 lbs-easy medium size HW negative - Great walker-doesn't really pull at all - Smart-knows sit and down and I believe he has done shake/paw for others - Treat motivated-this will help with future training - Affectionate-loves to be by your side or in your lap - He played a little with a squeaky toy today but overall prefers just hanging out with people - He would be happy snuggling on a couch with you! He didn't have a high energy level today but that could be partially due to the heat. - Good car rider-jumps in easily and lies down for you to hook/unhook from his seatbelts. Sometimes tries to come into the front seat because he wants to be closer to you. - Slightly shy in new situations/around new people but it doesn't take long for him to warm up to you - He was only in our house for a little bit but had no accidents there or in the stores we visited. I think he would be potty trained quickly as he potties promptly upon going outside. - He has the cutest little Boxer face and his fur seems more like Retriever fur" As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. Dean is currently being fostered by Hounds Town Greensboro-Guilford Doggie Daycare and is available for adoption. He can be adopted directly from the facility after an approved application from GCAS has been submitted to us and you've met Dean in person. Draco was originally adopted from a shelter by my mother who then decided she no longer wanted him. We took him in to prevent him from going back. He is a super sweet and cuddly boy. He is low energy and loves just sitting outside sunbathing. He loves kids and is very sweet with them but would do better with kids over 6/7 years old due to the fact he isnt always aware of his size at times. He is highly food motivated. Our friends 2 female dogs tend to boss him around, however when he is introduced to new dogs he has sometimes been overly excited which has caused other dogs to react defensively. In which he doesn't take the hint. He has never bit another dog or person. The only medical issues he has had was an ear that filled with blood and simply needed to be drained. Nothing serious. It breaks our hearts to have to rehome him, we are simply not financially in the position to give him everything he deserves. Our main goal is to find him the BEST home possible.

Pia came to us from friends who rescued a dog who had an unexpected litter. She is one of 8 puppies. She is a sweet but high energy dog who loves to play and run. She likes other dogs and people. She wants to play so much with our senior dog but is not a good match (senior dog is very grumpy and is at risk of injury from their play because of a previous back injury- senior dog is a chihuahua dachshund mix). We hope to find her a home with another high energy dog to wear her out. She was born on May 2, 2024. She knows how to sit and lay down. She is crate trained and house trained but has an occasional accident (2-3 times per week). She responds very well to training and can walk on a leash and play fetch. We love her very much but think she would be happier in a different home.
