Story
Meet Moose! This handsome middle-aged gentleman we believe is a Boxer Lab Pit mix. Moose weighs about 60 pounds but would gladly put on a few extra unneeded pounds if given the chance! Moose AKA Grandpa has a few things he would like to share with everyone: “Hello There! My name is Moose, and my favorite things in the world are food, naps, and relaxing with my humans. Did I mention food? Foster Mom says I’m working hard on learning house rules since I didn’t have many before. I’m figuring out how to play with toys and enjoy the company of my five fur siblings. While I’m a bit socially awkward when it comes to playtime, I love being their biggest fan and cheering them on! I think every new person I meet is my BFF. I’m polite, though—I wait patiently for them to come to me and hopefully offer a treat! Here’s what makes me extra special: I meet new dogs appropriately. I’m amazing in my crate and house-trained. I won’t drag you down the street on a leash. I’m great with other dogs and gentle with kids, including Foster Mom’s 6-month-old daughter. Oh, and I snore like your favorite Grandpa!” If Moose sounds like the right fit for your home, please reach out! He’s ready to be your new best friend and bring some chill vibes to your life. So far my foster mom has learned that every new person is my BFF. Although I love people, I won't drag you over to meet someone new I will patiently wait until they come over to say HELLO and pray they have a snack for me! I meet new dogs appropriately, I'm amazing in the crate, house trained, and I won't pull you down the street. I'm extremely treat motivated, good with other dogs, and a perfect gentleman with Foster Mom's 6-month old daughter. I know I sound perfect so far because I am and I'd love to tell you more about myself when you inquire about me! Also if you have gotten to the end of my speech I want to thank you and let you know that my nickname is Grandpa because I can fall asleep anywhere, in any position, and start snoring in an instant like your typical Grandpa. Come meet our adoptable dogs on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm in the backyard at AARF's new location- 302 Thurston St, W-S. Go to AARFWS.org to view and apply for our AARF dogs. Information about the process is available on our website. Remember that we do not adopt more than a 45-minute radius from our facility in Winston Salem.

Story
Our family has had Bella since she was 6 weeks old she was born March 6th. She's now 2 years old, very affectionate, excitable, loving, and enjoys attention. She loves cuddles and to play. Bella knows all her basic commands, crate trained, and potty trained. She needs a family that is able to handle an energetic dog and time for her. She's great with kids. She enjoys walks. She will brighten anyone's day once you come around her. She is a member of the family and will fit right in with yours. Because of our busy work schedules and growing family its difficult to give Bella the love and attention she needs as a boxer. We want her to be in a home where she feels happy and loved.

Story
Our beautiful Gracie Ann... what can we tell you about her in this short bio? She was found some months back, dumped in a grocery store parking lot. Alone and scared. No idea why she was dumped, no idea what she had done wrong to be deserted. One of our rescue partners called us and we jumped into action! While, we normally cannot take dogs larger than 35#, we couldn't say "no". She needed us! Gracie joined the pack of one of our fabulous fosters and fell into the role of loving life, indoors and warm! When Gracie came to us, we thought she was pregnant. Her stomach was full like she was ready to give birth. We waited. No puppies. She ate a lot.... still no puppies. We took her to the vet and confirmed, not pregnant but was in heat. Her foster mom would be out of town for a few weeks, and we would have her spayed when she returned. Gracie started losing weight rapidly. We rushed her to the vet and found out that she had pyometra. This is life or death! One vet wanted to put her to sleep because the procedure is so costly! For a rescue, $5k is a lot to absorb! We got a second opinion and are so glad that we did! Our vet gave us hope! Gracie had the surgery that afternoon and it was touch and go for a while. She stayed in the hospital for days. Today, she is fully healthy! Her bloodwork is perfect! Gracie is 23 months old. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative and on prevention. She is spayed and chipped. Gracie is housetrained and can be trusted outside of a crate. She is such a great dog! She will do best in a home with another dog as she LOVES to play, and we do not feel that placing her without a companion is in her best interest. If you have room in your home and your heart for this sweetheart of a girl, please complete the adoption application, below: https://acfrescue.weebly.com/adoption-foster-and-volunteer-applications.html

Story
Luke and his sister came into Ruff Love Rescue as a bonded pair.  They came to us after their previous owner encountered medical issues that left her unable to continue to care for them.  Luke and his sister Lizzie didn't care too much for other dogs, but they loved one another and were devoted to one another. Unfortunately, in April of 2024, Lizzie's health deteriorated significantly and she died, leaving Luke alone, without his sister.  He is, as you can imagine, a little lost without his sister. He doesn't like it when another dog gets in his face, so to be safe, it would be best if he were an only dog. Luke's vet estimated year of birth is 2011.   Luke is such a sweet dog.  He would make a great companion, especially to someone who can provide a warm room with a soft bed and a loving touch.  Luke is house trained. He's a sweet older gentleman who would love a home.  Could you make sure the rest of his life is the best of his life?  ~~ Adoption donation $150. All vetting is up to date. Microchipped and altered. Also on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Visit www.ruffloverescue.com to make this pup a member of your familyNovember 5, 2024, 5:56 pm

Story
Meet Mildred, a wonderfully calm and affectionate girl who thrives on companionship and love. She enjoys being close to her humans, soaking up every pet and cuddle you have to offer. Mildred is a dream on walks, strolling calmly by your side with excellent leash manners. She’s also a fan of bath time—she handles baths like a pro and seems to enjoy the soothing experience of being towel dried afterward. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving companion who will always be by your side, Mildred might just be the perfect match for you. With her sweet nature and loving demeanor, she’s sure to make a wonderful addition to your family! As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. To meet your future pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
**Meet Monkey Bread – The Sweet and Shy Companion** Monkey Bread is a timid and gentle pup who may take some time to adjust to new environments, but once he feels safe and trusts his human, he blossoms into a loving and loyal companion. While he’s naturally nervous at first, a little patience and some tasty treats help him become braver and more confident in his surroundings. On walks, Monkey Bread is a joy to take along. He walks beautifully on a leash, only pulling mildly when he gets excited. When he spots other dogs from a distance, he’s more curious than reactive, offering a slight tail wag before easily returning to his own exploration. He enjoys taking his time on walks, sniffing and discovering, making him the perfect companion for those who enjoy a leisurely stroll. After his first walk, Monkey Bread quickly warms up and transforms into a snuggle bug once he’s in a familiar space. He thrives on the bond he forms with his human and, when he feels comfortable, he’s all about cozying up for some quality cuddle time. Although he’s a bit scared of the car, he allows you to gently pick him up and settle him in, showing his trust in you. Monkey Bread is looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to grow and build confidence. With time, love, and reassurance, he will become the most affectionate and loyal companion, ready to offer all the love and cuddles he has to give. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. Story
Jaxson was on a big adventure when he wound up at an AARF foster's home. He chose well, as he has gotten his shots, been neutered and is being kept comfy and cozy in the house. Way better than camping in the woods with no food! Jaxson is a very affectionate boy who loves a good belly rub. He seems to be house trained and has done with the other dogs at his foster home. He is a bright boy, who learned how to sit quickly and does pretty well on a leash. Come meet our adoptable dogs on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm in the backyard at AARF's new location- 302 Thurston St, W-S. Go to AARFWS.org to view and apply for our AARF dogs. Story
Sadie is the gentlest giant! She is an approximately 2-year-old Pit Bull puppy. She loves to please and prefers to be a huge lap baby. She loves company. She loves her stuffed animal friends that she decides to destuff, loves playing catch and fetch although she struggles with the retrieve portion of the game! She loves all humans big or small. She is good with other dogs but can be dominant. Sadie is very food motivated. She loves car rides but, beware as she is super excited to see what is happening and loves the front seat beside you. She is crate trained and knows basic command of sit. We are currently working on door manners when people come over or something is delivered. We are also working on lay and speak. Story
Meet Finn! This adorable, wiggly, and fun-loving pup is SUCH a good boy: fully potty trained, great on a leash, calm in the crate, quiet all night, and an absolute ACE at knowing when it’s time to sit quietly with a chew toy and self-soothe. He will be a great hiking or running buddy once he’s a little older. Low anxiety, super smart, and happy to meet all dogs and people, he sits to go out, comes when called, and even enjoyed a recent 8-hour car trip with zero drama. You'd never know that until a couple weeks ago he didn't have shelter or food on a regular basis. With that in mind, the key to Finn’s heart (and continued amazing progress) will be STRUCTURE, exercise, and plenty of chew toys. He’s made great strides in a short time, but he is still pretty mouthy and tends to show his love by jumping up. All of this is totally normal, but means that it’ll take some work before he should be around young children or people unused to that aspect of puppy love. Finn will be an incredible companion for outdoorsy adopters but he can also be alone for longer stretches quite comfortably – a great fit for active professionals. Come meet our adoptable dogs on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm in the backyard at AARF's new location- 302 Thurston St, W-S. Go to AARFWS.org to view and apply for our AARF dogs.
