Introducing Cheyenne, an adorable 8-year-old boxer mix with a heart of gold and a wagging tail that never stops! This gentle doggy was obviously part of a family once, but somehow she ended up out of time in a nasty shelter and was scheduled to be killed before anyone noticed her. Luckily we saw her sweetness and got her out of there before it was too late. Now she's searching for her another home, one where she'll be kept safe and secure from getting lost again, where she can shower her new family with endless love and affection. She's relaxed and at ease indoors, and is already housebroken, making her transition into her new home a breeze.Cheyenne is a social butterfly who adores people, especially children. Tessa and her 2 tiny babies were rescued from BARC in Houston on April 29, 2024, moments before they were going to be killed. They had a loving home, but their owner was taken to the hospital and his relatives dumped his dogs at the shelter. There was another dog, too, thought to be Tessa's mom, but she was killed. We can't save them all, as much as we wish we could! At least we were able to save Tessa and her babies. The photos of Tessa in her concrete cell, her head down body curled protectively around her puppies, might make you think she's guarding them from letting anyone get too close. Her facial expression doesn't exactly look warm and welcoming -- but the truth is, this mama is as sweet and affectionate with people, even people she's just met, as she is with her own babies. She's all sugar, and no spice! She had absolutely ZERO concern about having her puppies picked up and carried around by strangers, she just wanted to get a butt scratch too. We haven't known her for too long, but so far everything we've seen has been absolutely lovely. She's an amazing mama, but she's also super friendly, quiet in the house, playful with other dogs, curious to investigate new surroundings, and quick to learn. She was pretty interested in the resident cat at her foster home, but was easily redirected and seems to understand now that the cat is off-limits. She's already learning the house rules from her foster-dog siblings and loves being to,d what a good girl she is.Tessa is going to LOVE being part of a family, and we're confident she's going to be an easy, fun and precious addition to any household, whether it's with a single retiree or a busy, bustling family. We're not sure yet if she would prefer having doggie playmates or being the center of attention -- she'd probably be very happy with either, as long as she's not left alone for long periods (she hasn't shown that she has separation anxiety, we just know she's not going to like being by herself as most dogs don't). She seems to be somewhat dominant, so she won't be placed with another dominant female. Marley's backstory is one of beating all odds and is a testament to the indomitable spirit that defines her. Marley previously enjoyed the love of a family but when they couldn’t keep her they unknowingly dropped her at one of the harshest shelters in Tennessee, where she deteriorated to the brink of despair. When she was pulled from the shelter by our rescue partner she was skin and bones and experiencing severe discomfort. Despite her condition, she very happily jumped into the rescuer’s car and revealed her sweet and pleasing personality. She is now on the mend and living the good life in foster care in Toronto. Marley’s foster describes her as sweet, friendly, gentle, and playful. She loves going out on walks, playing fetch, running around, chewing on kongs with peanut butter, and when that is all done cuddling up on the couch for snuggles. If Marley has a chance to be outside, she will be your best friend. She is friendly with her trusted people and will greet them with her tail wagging. With new people, she can be shy but will come sniff and seems to enjoy meeting new people at her own pace. Marley has met children as young as 3 years old and has been gentle with them, giving them smells and not minding them being near her. She is, however, a bit timid in the face of loud noises. We think that she could do well in a home with older, respectable children who respect her and her space. In her previous life, Marley survived a pretty vicious dog attack, however, she does not seem to mind being close to dogs when out on her walks. She still needs and appreciates slow introductions if she is in close proximity to other dogs. Marley has had exposure to puppies around 6 months but she would rather keep to herself instead of playing with them. Eventually, she could have doggy friends and may be able to live with another older dog with proper introductions. Marley has interacted with cats and has shown some prey-drive. She is therefore looking for a cat-free home. Marley gets 3-4 walks a day, 2 are usually 20-30 minutes, and the others are short pee breaks. She also gets indoor enrichment and lots of fetch in the yard. Marley does pull on the leash but her fosters are actively working on it and she has already made improvements. She does not seem fearful of anything on a leash but can be overwhelmed by unfamiliar city noises. Marley is a very polite house guest and has stayed in her crate for up to six hours without issue. She settles in the crate quickly and takes a nap. When her people are home she loves being the resident couch potato and likes to snuggle up using your lap as a pillow. She likes to follow her people around the house but is not stressed being left alone. She sleeps through the night in her crate without issue. Marley is working on basic training and knows to sit, come, and stay. She knows “leave it” and “place” really well. She is only motivated by high-value treats so her fosters are working to figure out her favourite things. Marley’s ideal home is one that is filled with love and consideration. She has been through so much and deserves the best forever home. She is very gentle, sweet, and attentive with people of all ages but is most comfortable in a calm environment with people mindful of her body language and comfort levels. She could live with older, respectful children who understand her boundaries. She would love a house with a yard so she can keep up one of her favourite activities, fetch. Marley is a living testament to the strength of the canine spirit, and her presence is a reminder that resilience and love can conquer even the darkest of pasts. Marley is a survivor and truly deserves nothing but the very best. Marley’s fur is noticeably patchy from damage done to her hair follicles when she suffered from mange in the shelter. Her hair may grow back in time but, likely, she will always be a little patchy. She is currently taking Stilbestrol for urine leaking and will need to stay on it for life (dosing is twice daily but the goal is to get dose frequency as low as you can go with no leaking). She gave birth to a litter of four puppies while tied up to the fence of the lot. Our wonderful partners in Mexico cut the chain she was tied to and took the mama and her puppies to safety. Lua is one of these puppies, rescued from a life of neglect and ready to find a loving home. Lua has the sweetest face we've ever seen and is super expressive. This pocket-Boxer mix is incredibly affectionate and loves being around people, including kiddos. She is playful with both humans and other dogs and gets excited, often jumping with joy. She enjoys playing with toys, running around with her dog pals and exploring her surroundings. Lua is medium energy and will need at least two walks a day and some canine enrichment. Her new family should be prepared to support her with basic training such as potty training, leash walking and general commands. Lua is an adaptable gal and could do well in a home with a yard, or an apartment, so long as she is getting sufficient exercise. While Lua would do well as a second or third pup, we also think she'd be happy as a solo dog. It's important to note that Lua prefers not to share her food (same here) so if she were adopted into a home with other pets, it would be best to feed them separately. Lua was briefly tested with cats and did well. She was also briefly tested with kids. We believe she can live with respectful children who understand doggie etiquette. Amor is the sweetest girl you will ever meet who loves lots of cuddles and is very affectionate. Our volunteers regularly spend time in her room cuddling with her and she truly appreciates it. She also enjoys going for walks with her people and is very playful. Unfortunately she does not get along with other dogs or cats and will need to be the only dog in the home. On her walks she can be reactive to other dogs, but she is learning to walk by them comfortably.

Smooch (named Schmoopie in the shelter) was saved from being killed at BARC in Houston on April 16, 2024, where he'd been taken in as a stray. He was absolutely petrified in his little cell, not trusting anyone and not wanting anyone to touch him. For 5 days, he huddled in a ball in the corner of his little cell, shaking in fear, begging to be left alone. He was so scared that any time anyone tried to get near him, he growled until they moved away again. Dogs like that don't last long at the shelter, and it was only a few days before Smoochie was put on the list to be killed. Seeing the fear in his eyes, we decided to give this guy a chance, and boy are we ever glad we did! We got him out of danger at the last minute and whisked him off to a foster home to let him decompress in peace. After a few days of quiet crate time, he finally started to show his true loving nature. He is the MOST loving and affectionate doggy on the planet! All he wants is to be close to his person, to be snuggled and held. Sure, he loves treats, but we think he loves praise and attention even more. He's young and healthy and ready to fall in love.The one thing about Smoochie is that he really hates other dogs. We're convinced he's had trauma in his past, and we don't think this is something he should be expected to get over -- he's told us in no uncertain terms that he will only be happy living apart from other dogs. Of course this limits his opportunities to find the perfect home, but the good news is that he's fine with cats! Wooohoo!Sadly Smoochie's shares his foster home in Texas with several other dogs, so he spends more time in his crate than a dog should. He badly needs out. He needs his own family to adore and be adored by. He can travel to most corners of the US and many parts of Canada! Mabel is a sweet 5 year old girl who will never know from hunger again, a sweet girl who deserves to be wrapped in compassion and love for the balance of her days. An angel of a dog who loves laps, and if your sitting on a chair or couch will gently lay her head on it for a scratch and soothing attention. A dog that follows the human of her foster home and always chooses to be near. A dog who demonstrates her affection for providing for her with kisses and affection. She is a dog that didn’t deserve what happened to her but deserves the whole world moving forward. She is ready for her adoption debut, at a perfect weight, with now perfect teeth, and is awaiting an equally perfect home.
