Story
HI - I'M BILLY! WHAT'S UP? I'm an adorable 1-year-old Boxer-Pit mix in need of a foster or forever home. I have a cute, smiling face and BIG ears. I was recently rescued from a California shelter in the nick of time! I get along great with other dogs, and of course I love people! I would do well in an active home with a person or people who love to walk, hike, go on outings, and then take a snooze! I weigh about 65 lbs. Please email for an application.

Story
HI - I'M CHARM! I'm a sweet and playful 1-year-old Lab-Boxer mix in need of a foster or forever home! I was rescued from an overcrowded California shelter, and originally came from a hoarding case. I'm a happy girl who loves people and other dogs. I weigh only about 50 lbs and would make a great dog for an active single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I would do well with another dog in the home. Please email for an application.

Story
HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM BENJI! Benji is an almost 4-year-old Boxer-Pit mix in need of a forever home. He's currently in a foster home. Benji has had a rough go of it in his short life - he was rescued from a crowded California shelter, and later was attacked by another male dog at a boarding kennel. He is almost healed from his attack though looks a little rough around the edges during the healing process. Benji is very much a couch potato dog in that he loves to lounge on the sofa or sleep on your bed. He's a huge snuggler! He has done fine around other dogs, but given his recent trauma we think he may be best as the only dog where he can get all of the deserved love and attention. He's very affectionate, and loves belly rubs. Benji is also an active, strong boy so he needs a strong owner, and someone who can take him for walks, hikes and other outings. A big, fenced yard would be a plus, but is not a necessity. He does have a prey drive for squirrels and bunnies, so probably would do best in a home without cats. Overall he's a mellow, easygoing boy. He weighs about 60 lbs. Please email for an application.

Great semi energetic snuggly little boy!! Please contact us to submit an application directly at Kzyrnr17@yahoo.com or info@dogdiggityrescue.com or  https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HTX/Exotic/Other Rubble is a 6 mos old  (DOB 8 Feb 2023) 40 lb Boxer/Retriever mix.  He will be a medium to large dog as an adult.  Rubble, his mom (45 lb) and littermates were found running down access road of a highway when they were 5 weeks old.  Everyone in litter and mom died of Distemper (due to owner not giving them shots).  Rubble is the sole survivor.  He will be special needs throughout his life.  He is a very special puppy that has tons of love to give and loves all humans, children, playing with other polite /low energy dogs, playing with toys and visiting with volunteers/staff getting chicken /treats. Did we say he LOVES his humans?  When he plays and does his walk abouts you do not see any affects of distemper.  He is crate trained, walks on a leash and loves car rides.  He will benefit from some continued obediance training and public socialization with new environmental objects.  He will play, then will hang out on the couch or your lap.  He requires an owned home with a securely fenced yard in a colder climate as the hot TX temperature is not conducive to his health.   He is looking for a special needs mixed breed dog experienced family.  He will do best with another dog companion and someone that works from home or caregiver (female) is home.    No apartments.   Courtesay post for the Helotes Humane Society. I am a graduate of the FREEDOM TAILS Board & Train Program in partnership with Stafford Creek Corrections Center. This popular program pairs a duo of incarcerated individuals up with a PAWS of Grays Harbor pooch for 12 weeks. Each dog has a primary and secondary handler assigned to the same cell, giving the dog 24-hour care and attention to meet its needs. During their stay at SCCC, these dogs receive specialized training to prepare them for adoption to the public. At the end of their 12-week stay, they enjoy a special adoption ceremony with their new families to show off their skills as they start a new journey. Find out more at pawsgh.org/freedomtails.5 Quick Highlights: 1. He is very cute and affectionate2. He’s smart and listens well3. He’s a fast learned and is already house broken4. He’s fun, funny, and very energetic5. He’s a great dog and loves to play with other dogsHi!!! I'm Smiley, and I have A LOT to smile about! I am a parvo survivor thanks to my friends at PAWS. I have so much love to give, I wasn't ready to stop fighting for my future! My friends say I don't have a mean bone in my body, but I didn't know bones could be mean, I just think they're tasty! I have had some training, too. Do you want to be my people? I love new friends and am ready to see what all life has in store for my future!! Let's go!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4/12/24Hello there, free world. My name is Smiley! I’m currently in the Big House taking a huge bite of crime. Yeah, I know that was a really corny joke but dry humor is my middle name. I think that might make me a Capricorn, I don’t know. Nevermind, I’m getting off topic again because I’m so busy! Anyways, I’m here in the Freedom Tails training program learning how to live more comfortably and obediently with humans. Humans can be strange creatures sometimes but that's another off topic subject that we’ll talk about later. My first night in prison was ruff, ruff ruff but my human companions in here quickly helped me settle in and get adjusted to my new environment. They laid a few ground rules and said it’ll help me to get adopted. The first thing I learned was that not everything on the floor is a toy I can play with. Next I learned that windows and doors aren’t something for me to spy on and bark or goals at the world through. There is so much more to tell you about my Freedom Tails prison experience, so stay tuned until next week when I’ll let you know how I made it through bathtime! Signing off with licks, smiles and nibbles until next time! Lick, Lick, Ruff!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------4/19/24Hi guys! It’s your favorite little Blue nose prison mix! You’ll be pleased to know I made it through my first bath time here just fine. The service in this slop hole sucks. There were no bubbles for the bath, no big fluffy robes to relax in after and, you guessed it, no rubber duckys. :( There is a Ducky in here but she’s not yellow or made of rubber. She’s a poof ball with two different colored eyes. That’s a little weird and creepy if you ask me. I hear some people find that cute and adorable. If you find out who they are please let me know so I can block them! Other than that, the last few weeks have been pretty boring. I mean who likes being told what they can’t do all week? It’s not a bad thing to learn the rules and boundaries of living with my companions. I’m hoping it’ll find me a home. Signing off again with licks, smiles and nibbles! Until next time, LICK, LICK, RUFF! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------7/9/24 Well hello again! The good vibes and smiles are back! You’d better act fast if you would like a shot at a future with me. Let's face it folks, I'm too cute and cuddly to last long on this site. I like long walks, hops, chasing balls, playing with other pups, snuggling up with a good friend and taking in a movie - no chick flicks. I prefer to let the chicks chase me and save my energy for chasing balls and playing with the other pups in the yard. I have to warn you though, I do not like cats. I tried to live with one for a week and let’s just say I wanted to play but it did not. Apparently cats don’t like to be chased? Weird creatures. I do however LOVE LOVE LOVE puppies! If you have a puppy or two, we’ll get along just fine. I also like boundaries, they help me feel safe and secure enough to let my guard down and relax. If you like anything mentioned above, I’m your perfect dog. RUFF RUFF Smiley --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------7/10/24 I’m settling back in pretty well here although my trainer said I need to go on a diet. Apparently my brief stint in the free world has taken a toll on my figure. It has earned me a new nickname he’d like me to shed fast - “Fat Boy.” I've been a little tired and depressed because things didn’t work out with my previous adopters. They were swell folks. They treated me well and were as broken up as I was to see me go. I’m holding on to the belief, “everything happens for a reason.” That said, it stands to reason that I haven't found the family I’m meant to be with, YET! But I will, and we are going to have lots and lots of fun. Hopefully by now you’ll know I tend to overeat so you'll need to help me stay at a healthy weight. Hum, speaking of food…. Too bad I can't drown my depression in a few submarine sandwiches and iced lattes. You humans have it so good when it comes to emotional issues… or do you??? Don’t worry, I’m not too depressed as I have lots of old friends here to keep me company. But I’m hoping to find some forever friends soon. RUFF RUFF Smiley --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------7/18/24 Hello again, I went to a meet and greet the other day. It was loads of fun to visit the outside world again. I’m hoping I’ll find my forever home soon. I’m a warm and very energetic dog who loves to run and play in the yard with the dogs. Speaking of playmates, I’ve made a new friend with another graduate from last class. His name is River. He’s a very cool and fun Rottie mix. We had a real blast this morning. I wouldn’t mind having a playmate like him for life. I get it though, one dog is a handful, namely me! But a boy can dream, can’t he? I’m only a handful until you set up the boundaries. As long as you and the boundaries stay consistent, I’ll feel safe enough to relax and be my bestest self. But don’t forget, I’m also excitable so you’ll need to either let me get it out or disengage to get me to adopt. Just tell me to go to my place and lay down and I'll know you're not in the mood to play! I’ll take a nap until you are. I’m the bestest boy with just a hint of guidance. RUFF RUFF Smiley!--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hello, world! It’s your favorite cute, funny, and energetic four legged friend, Smizzel. Things are heating up here since I arrived. I am not talking about the weather, but the 5 or 6 other dos that have arrived. This means lots more smells and feces. My neighbor is a cute 9 month old pitty pup named Cammie. She’s really sweet and nice. Then, there is Dalwood, a fiesty little pug mix. For a small dog, he thinks he’s in charge…of what I don’t know. Anyhow, there are plenty of nice K9’s to pick from in this class. Fun facts about me, I love kisses, hugs, and belly rubs. I love to play with soccer and basketballs, but watch your fingers accidents happen. My trainer is working on what he calls impulse control which should solve the finger problem for good. Apparently my trainer has been dubbed finger in the mouth guy because of me. He is a good trainer, though, and takes it like a champ. The nickname that is, not the nicks. Until Next Time,Smiley woof woof8/15/2024Well, well now good folks out there I do not know what’s taking you so long to decide what’s cuter than a kitten? Let me help you out…..I am silly!!!! Now stop wasting your time and money on kitty litter and come and get me, already!!!! Sure I am a little work up front but it is all laughs and giggles once I settle into your life and home. I love snacks, naps, movies, and playing with new dogs at the park. Speaking of new dogs, 14 new ones showed up herald now me and my good playmate River are sticking out like sore thumbs. River and I get along great. We love our AM play dates and pack walks. All in all life isn’t bad here but it is not what it could be if you would take a chance on a dog like me!!! It would be the best decision of your life. I can’t wait to meet you. Until then…..Ruff Ruff,Smiley----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------8/25/24This week has been quite fun. I’ve been learning to sit, down, and wait until I am called or released to eat or move around. This is mainly when my handler is cleaning up his cell or preparing a meal or feeding me. Also, if someone comes to the door I’m instructed to go to place, down, and wait. If I’m really good my handler will tell me to go and see and I get a pet from whoever is there. Other than that he has been working with me on my impulse control. I especially need this when I am around basketballs or soccer balls, they are my favorite toy. I take lots of naps snd I am completely house broken. I am also good at hearing things outside that get too close to the house. I let my handler know this with a low growl or bark to scare them off. Hope I didn’t scare my person’s date away. Oops. Sorry about that! Smiley__________________________________________________________________________9/17/24Hey people, what’s taking you so long to decide about taking a pup as cute and adorable as me home with you?? I’m everything you have been dreaming about in a dog, and then some! I’m house broken - I won’t use the bathroom indoors unless you ignore my many MANY requests to be let out! I’m really obedient once the ground rules have been laid and thoroughly tested by yours truly. I know all my cues. I love to play around and make people laugh. I’m loads of fun for your family and great entertainment for your neighbors and friends. I know you’ve probably made many mistakes in your life, but I won’t be one of them! I’ll be your greatest decision. Come on, what’s there to think about? Look at me! I’m funny, cute and I LOVE to cuddle. I’ll bring warmth to your life and feet on a cold winter’s night . Stop second guessing yourself already and bring me home! 🙂 Ruff Ruff! Smiley_____________________________________________________________________Smiley 9/19/24Still waiting to find my forever home. I’m a good and well behaved dog. I’m not boring though. I like to have lots of fun. I’m really cute and funny, too. I can’t wait to meet you, whoever is meant to be my forever person. Until then I’ll continue to be me and learn all I can to be the best dog. Hopefully, I will have lots of fun, make my handlers laugh, and enjoy my time with them while I wait for just the right person. Ruff Ruff,Smiley_________________________________________________________________________Smiley 10/10/24Hey, I’m cute!! I love to play and make people laugh. I have the best smile! I like long walks and late night treats. I also like to watch TV. Pit bulls and parolees is my favorite. If you believe that last bit, I have some ocean front property in Arizona you might like to buy. I told you I was funny. HeeHee 😀 Anyways, Prison Is Boring. So, put up my $400 bail and let’s get our lives started together! I know you’re going to love it.:) Ruff Ruff Smiley__________________________________________________________________________Claud, Smiley's Handler 10/17/24Working with Smiley taught me I am capable of far more than I thought. I think I was taken beyond my breaking point on night one. This night forced me to face and accept a few personal issues just below the surface of consciousness. Working through them has made me more confident and sure of myself and my ability to face and transcend personal and professional difficulties. During the course of training, I was able to correlate some mistakes I had made into the method of training I chose. Addressing my difficulties has made me a far better and more experienced trainer and human being. Working with this dog, Smiley, taught me people and animals both have the right to make decisions. Smiley allowed me to make adjustments; personally and professionally. This has made it possible to accept myself while also respecting the rights and opinions of others. I feel honored and privileged to have been given the opportunity to work with dogs and other individuals in the Freedom Tails program. I look forward to learning and growing more personally and professionally in the near future. Thanks to everyone that made this possible.Smiley 10/10/24Hey, I’m cute!! Smiley is food driven and will always seek a treat. He will case and put his full attention on any cat, rabbit, or small animal. Smiley will be aggressive with other dogs, but once he is introduced to the other dogs properly, his aggression is only playful, very playful and “ruff”. Smiley is like any other dog that NAPS all day or when he can, eats without chewing-swallowing, inhaling his food if he can. This dog is way too playful when he has built-up energy. Great with commands8/15/24What’s up world it’s that big dog Tank here coming at you live from SCCC Freedom Tails program where we’re sponsored by them cool cats over at PAWS of Grays Harbor, wait… did someone say cat?!?! Oh yeah, that was me! Anyway… I get here and they hand me over to this tall skinny human and his accomplice, a shorter stocky guy. I’m thinking to myself, this is going to be easy! I’m going to be able to do what I want when I want. But oh man was I wrong! They are not the ones to tango with, let me tell you. They got me stopping at doors and sitting, and to make things worse I can't walk through until I make eye contact and get the ok! I mean, I’m the biggest dog on this block! But the flip side of it all is that they really are just trying to make sure I succeed and get to a forever home with a new loving family. Till next time, Tank!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------8/25/24 What’s up big world? It’s your boy Tank Dogg over here at Freedom Tails. I have a joke for you… Why did the cat cross the road? To run away from me of course!! LOLMan, I’m funny but my handlers don’t think so. They’re like you better not be chasing cats. You hear? I just smile and say, yeah I guess so. It’s time to tell you about my week. I feel great. I have not been this healthy in my life. This new chapter is starting out great. For me, I get personal trainers. They like to tell me what to do and give me treats if I do it. Not bad right? Hopefully I get my yellow bandana today. If I do, I will get more freedom and more work to do. That’s it for this week. Wish me luck!!! Tank-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------9/12/24This is your boy, Tank!! And you know the rest. It’s been another week of training and cues; I am just getting ready for graduation. I can’t believe I’m already halfway through this program and I have learned so much in the time I have been here. I just hope they find me a good family that I can love and hopefully they have a big yard!!Well, it’s time for me to get back to work. I will fill you in on the news next week!! Ruff Ruff----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------9/19/24What’s up my peoples, it’s your boy Tank Dogg coming at you from SCCC Freedom Tails program. For all of you that are new and not yet wiped yet, Freedom Tails is the place that dogs go to for training in LIMA( least, invasive, minimal aversive training). So it goes like this; PAWS of Grays Harbor evaluates us and then sends us here for a 12 week cues in behavior and basic obedience training. So yeah, that’s where I’m at and getting lots of training every day. Cues, cues, and cues. Sit, wait, with me, look/focus, down, stand, come, etc. At first, I was defiant and not willing to change my wild dog ways, but let me fill you in on something that they don’t tell you when get off the change bus, these guys that have been down for a long minute have all the time in the world and patience to stand by and wait for you to do what they have asked of you. So, I found out the hard way at first. Now I just go along with them and do as I am asked; well for the most part! I’m coming around you can say. Well I am going to take a nap. I’ll talk to you next week!! Tank Dogg___________________________________________________________________________________________12/18/24Hello everyone, I am Tank’s primary handler. Tank is a 4 year old, 80 pound, male, American Bulldog pit mix. He is predominately shiny black with white markings on his feet, chest, throat, and has a white patch on the right side of his snout that connects to the white on his throat. He also has brindle-like brown markings ( brown streaks and spots) that are apparent when you look up close. He also has white fleck-marks on his face- making him an adorable companion. At first Tank was quite mouthy when I would give him physical attention: lots of teeth at about 5% of his bite. This has been addressed appropriately over the last few weeks, and now he only does it when he gets ramped up and the bite has gone down to 2-3%. He has responded well to a nurturing kind approach. Tank is reactive to some people and dogs, yet with most people and some dogs he gets along just fine. We have been zealously working with Tank on his reactivity; consequently, we have noticed a remarkable change in his behavioral patterns surrounding his aggression which if I had to guess is merely his fear and anxieties produced by his environment-just my speculation. What I can objectively report is that Tank’s ability to calm down has improved significantly. A situation that was once uncomfortable is now much easier to maintain. His heartbeat, his whimpering, and his pull on the leash have all softened; and I can often get him to look at me in situations that previously he would simply refuse. This does still happen from time to time- especially if there are multiple distractions. Overall, Tank is a wonderful, gentle dog that just needs the right environment to be successful. Tank is a healthy, happy, cuddly friend that will make a great pet companion. He has healthy teeth, nails, skin, and fur. He enjoys toys for short periods and he loves moderate to high value treats. He goes to his kennel when asked (most of the time) and he is 99.999% potty trained. 12/19/24 The required cues, this week, for Tank are sit, down, and stand. Tank is a very good sitter and does equally well with down when the ground is dry, wet surfaces not so good. Stand is a work in progress; however he knows the cue now, so it’s just a matter of repetition to perfect it. Currently loose leash walking is our primary training to include “By Me.” These commands are asking Tank to sit by my left side and “with me,” which is asking him to walk next to me- similar to heel but less restrictive. Tank is making good progress in low distraction scenarios. Tank is 99.999% potty trained and he talks to us saying, rabble-rabble-rabble when he needs to go outside. It is quite peculiar because it is as if he is actually trying to talk. As for “down,” at this point it is more of a flattened ready to pounce stance. We are working on getting him to lay on his side more. Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org

Story
12/10/24My name is Vichai Saly. I’ve been tasked to handle the one, the myth, the legend people tell stories about at campfires at night - Athena. Here we have an American Pit Bull Terrier. She is 2 years, 2 months young. Coming in at a weight of 48 pounds. My first impression of Athena is summed up in this one word “RELENTLESS.” This sassy spit fire cannot stop or will not stop until she feels that she has been satisfied. No matter what it is, she is relentless. She could be searching for your affection, playing, or pulling, she does it relentlessly. Trust me you will be tuckered out before she is. Please understand this is my first impression of Athena during our first week together. This spitfire has so much more to show us. By the end of this 12 week syllabus, you will grow with her, get to know her, and she’ll let you take her home. _____________________________________________________________________________12/19/24At the moment the secondary handler and myself are planning to follow the 12 week syllabus. My major goal with Athena is her leash training. As of right now, she has no apparent training. This first 3 weeks will be the honeymoon phase where we bond with our new dogs. We do this by showing them their place to eat, sleep, and showing them their toys. They can choose the toy they want to play with. Socializing with them, building that trust and finding that comfort zone for all of us to co-exist. The first cue is sit. This is where you use a high value treat. You pinch the treat with your pointer finger and thumb. You bring it to the dog’s nose, then slowly move the treat up and towards your dog’s back like an arch, hopefully your dog will place their backside on the ground. Once that happens click and say “sit.” Repeat 5 - 10 times.Second, is down, after your fluff-fluff masters the sit. You build on that to cue your dog to go down. While in the sit position, you pinch the treat, and slowly you bring the treat to the floor. Once the dog goes all the way down, you click, treat the dog, and say “down.” Repeat 5-10 times. The third cue we do is stand. Once your dog has mastered “down,” you pinch the treat and have your dog smell it. You slowly pull back your hand towards your body. Once the dog stands up you click, give a treat, and say stand. Repeat 5-10 times.______________________________________________________________________________12/26/24Athena: Eager Relentless Happy Adorable Super Friendly If you leave Athena alone, she will find something with your scent on it and bring it to her sleeping area. This thing mostly consists of your shoes or slippers…. But the things she brings to bed are never chewed or destroyed! She derives comfort from snuggling with something that smells like you while resting. My favorite thing about my dog is her relentlessness to get what she wants. Athena doesn’t mind being in her kennel, she will wait patiently without whining. She’s so eager to please. Athena’s energy level is moderate, matching whatever you put out. If you bring your energy up, she will do the same to match yours. You want her to get pumped up and she’ll turn up in return, you want some rest, she’ll cuddle up or go and mind her own business. Every morning I make sure she gets her morning energy out, goes to the restroom and then she’s ready to start training. I appreciate her charming personality and I think she acknowledges that by being the best dog ever. Athena’s favorite toy is anything that squeaks! Currently it’s a green octopus. She’ll also happily chase any ball you throw for her. She LOVES to play. ______________________________________________________________________________1/06/25There I was on the side of the road, I honestly don't remember how I even got there. So I decided to try and hitch a ride! What do you know, a woman actually stopped and picked me up! She took me home and cared for me until I was brought to PAWS GH. I’m not really sure how long I was at PAWS for but I’ll tell you what, I had so much fun! They have so many snacks and fun toys and games to play, everyone was so nice to me there. Then one day Allie, my best friend at PAWS, loaded me into the car and took me to Stafford Creek Freedom Tails! That’s where I’m writing this from. When I first got here we got out of the car and walked towards this huge building with so many fences around it. Like magic all of the gates opened for Allie! When we got inside, we saw this whole new world! There were benches, grass and a fish pond too! That’s where we waited for my new human. At first he didn’t even look at me, how could he?! Then all of the sudden, he bent down one one knee and I got to lick his hand. All of the sudden whatever fear was inside of me melted away. I knew I’d have him wrapped around my little paws in no time. 😀 Sure enough he has met my every need. I need to go to the bathroom? He takes me, and then cleans it up too! I want to play in the mud? Done! I do have to admit, I do not like the bath that comes afterwards. I was terrified of water! It’s getting better, a little…. Don't get me wrong, I listen to him also! There’s usually a treat in it for me afterwards. I love being with him. He provides structure and boundaries for me so that it’s easier to communicate with humans. Did I mention I was terrified of stairs when I first got here?! This guy tried to get me to go up them. I was like NO FREAKING WAY MAN! I tried to run anywhere but towards those stairs. After a while my guy just swooped me up and walked me up the stairs. He did this two more times after that and well, then I felt safe because I knew he wouldn't let me fall. So next time we had to hit the stairs, I was able to do it all by myself! I was terrified when I did it and hugged the walls until I got onto solid ground again. But I did it! And I’ve been doing it! Now I can hit the stairs like a champion.. Alright, I’ll talk to you guys later! ______________________________________________________________________________1/09/25 The cues we are working on this week are sit, stay and down. Athena has mastered sit, however down and stay are a work in progress. Athena’s potty training is going well! She’s about 75% potty trained. She has no accidents, as long as we keep consistent potty breaks as part of the schedule. ______________________________________________________________________________Please apply to adopt at: http://www.pawsgh.org
