Story
Meet Pygmy, the 4-year-old, 53 lb bundle of quirks and charm! Hailing from a farm, Pygmy had a bit of a "barkument" with a goat once (let's just say they didn't exchange friendship bracelets). While Pygmy might not be on speaking terms with goats, he's looking for a drama-free life elsewhere. He's a wildlife enthusiast, so outside adventures might involve a bit of "wildlife-watching," and he's quite the vocal storyteller!Pygmy's a professional at tippy-tapping when excited and could definitely hold his own in a singing contest (the audience might need some earplugs). He's looking for a cat-free zone, but in all other aspects, he's a sweetheart. If you have dogs at home, bring them for a meet-and-greet at the shelter to see if they hit it off. If you're ready to welcome a furry friend who's full of character, Pygmy's here to bring joy and plenty of amusing adventures to your life!

If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please visit our website, for details about our fees and process, and to complete our Adoption Application.   ARPO limits adoptions to within 50 miles of Indianapolis.  We do not have a shelter; all pets are in volunteer foster homes.  Hi, I'm Lina.  I am looking for my forever home. I can be timid at first with both people and other dogs.  So if you meet me don't be offended.  I'm a beautiful girl who is playful and sweet once I'm comfortable.  I'm a young girl born around September of 2023.  I like a good walk and do pretty well on leash.  I do well with dogs, cats, and respectful kids.  My breed mix is anyone's guess.  I look like a cattle dog, but I only weigh about eight pounds.     I'm crate trained and housebroken and I really like my crate.  I'm also spayed, microchipped, current on my shots, and HW negative.  If you're interested in meeting me please fill out an application and my friends with ARPO will be in touch! If you are interested in adopting an ARPO pet, please complete the online Adoption Application.  If you would like to donate to this pet's care, please click here. August 18, 2024, 10:27 pm

Story
Baxter first came to Chihuahua Rescue 5 years ago when he was almost one year old. He was surrendered back to the Rescue along with Matilda, who is called Tilly. They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Baxter's previous household, so we re-emphasized that skill. He made good progress and is pretty reliable, especially since we got his urinary tract infection treated. He's also crate trained now. At first we thought Baxter and Tilly were bonded and would have to be adopted together. Now, although they still like each other a lot, we believe that they can be adopted separately. Baxter was very overweight upon his return, so with the efforts outlined below we got him back to a healthy weight. Feeding a measured amount of weight-loss food, limiting treats, no human food and getting good exercise in the yard has done the trick; he is at his goal weight! Baxter does have a tendency to bolt out the door if given the chance, so potential adopters should have a securely fenced yard or be diligent about putting on his harness and leash before opening the door.. Baxter has settled in well into his foster's household. His shots are back up to date and he is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Baxter has a very loud bark and uses it to indicate his desires or notify the household of approaching strangers, so he would not be ideal in a shared-wall situation. Baxter is particularly not a fan of big dogs. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 1/11/23, 2/16/23, 4/10/23, 7/30/24, 8/14/24

Story
My name is Jairo, but my foster mommy calls me Nacho. I was found running around a strange neighborhood by a really nice lady that took me to her Vet clinic. The Chihuahua Rescue took me in and my foster mommy made me feel safe again. I just want a forever home again and a warm lap to cuddle on again. I am a really sweet boy and love to lay on your lap for lovin's!! Sometimes I'll play with toys and even with my foster siblings!! Jairo is current on vaccines, has had a one year proheart shot for heartworms, microchipped, and neutered. At his last exam, a heart murmur was found. He is now on daily heart meds. He will come with his own cage and bed that he is comfortable with. Do you have room in your heart for this sweet little senior boy?

Story
Bandit is a very loving, sweet dog. He is playful, especially likes to play fetch. All vet needs are up to date. He loves to curl up on your lap for a nap. His previous owner could no longer care for him. Bandit is housebroken and does great as long as you offer lots of breaks and notice his cues of needing to go outdoors. It takes him a while to warm up to new people. Bandit has some very chihuahua behaviors, he loves "his" person, and will keep others away by doing a dance around the feet of the tstranger and he "might" take a nip at the ankle. Its not representative of Bandit's overall super sweet and enjoyable personality. He likes to get up by your face and lay his head on you and then takes his paw and pats you on the face. Its darling, and almost cat-like. If you’re looking for a great companion, Bandit would be great for you. Bandit just had his teeth cleaned at the vet and he is current on flea and heartworm meds as well as routine vaccines. He's not a big eater, he does like treats, and he is crate trained. He is fine with other friendly dogs. Bandit's adoption fee is $350 and he's ready for adoption now. Fostered by sphil

Story
Matilda Rose, who is called Tilly, (the middle dog in the picture of 3, and the light brown one in all the other pictures) is a dignified older lady who LOVES her former bond mate, Bubba Baxter (the black dog in all the other pictures). They were surrendered to Chihuahua Rescue after their previous owner developed serious health issues and was no longer able to care for them. Potty training was not enforced in Tilly's previous household, so we have re-emphasized that skill. She does well with frequent trips outside and access to potty pads in the house. At first, we thought Tilly and Bubba Baxter were bonded and would have to be adopted together. Now, although they still like each other a lot, we believe that they can be adopted separately. Tilly loves pets and cuddles; she's happiest in her human's lap or right next to them on the couch or chair. She's quiet and has settled well into her foster's household. Her shots are up to date. She is heartworm negative and back on preventive. Tilly is very bow-legged in the rear due to chronically dislocated kneecaps, which the vet says are not fixable with surgery. We have her on a special joint supplement to keep her knees comfortable as she ages because she is at risk for arthritis. Tilly also has a significant heart murmur, though no actual symptoms of heart disease. She takes medication for her heart and liver as well. She takes the pills easily when they are wrapped in pill pockets. 10/31/22 CG, updated 11/18/22, 4/10/23, 8/14/24
