Story
My name should have been Happy because I am the happiest boy. But the name Lucky, also, fits because I am Lucky now to have been rescued. I am about a five year old or older Chihuahua. I was abandoned in a place with about 7 other Chihuahuas. You can guess what the place looked and smelled after we were left there for a long time. Some of the other Chi’s were eating through the walls to get out. We were rescued and taken to the shelter. I think my siblings and I were so glad to be out of the place where we were left. The shelter said we all had great dispositions. My tail has not stopped wagging since I came to my foster home. I do have some tremors but the humans are not sure why. All of us left behind were very malnourished which could attribute to my issues. My hip bones are showing and I am really skinny. But rest assure I am being fed now and will fatten up just fine. I do bump into things on occasion but I don’t let the stop me. I run, I play and I ask for attention. I have a funny little gait as well. Again this could come from being so happy or being so malnourished. Again it does not stop me from doing all the doggy things I need to do. So far I get along with other dogs. I am starting to play with another dog about my size. I am just learning to play with toys. I pick the toys up and am so happy but then not sure what to do. I am watching the others dogs so I am sure I will catch on. I get along with all sizes of dogs as long as they are nice to me. I am not perfectly housebroken but will wear a belly band and it is usually dry when I get outside to use the potty. Not being housebroken may have to do with not being neutered and from being inside for a long time. I will be neutered in November so I am given a chance to put on weight and get stronger. I am starting to go into a crate when I need to. I do not always want to be crated but it is safe. I love to eat and have treats. I love to be outside with my human and doggy friends. I am learning to walk on a leash. It took me two days to learn my foster home’s routine so I am smart. I can be a bit fearful in a new situation but once I am comfortable, I am wide open. I will just cower when I feel unsafe. As long as folks give me time I will come around. I do love being held. I go nonstop and so does that tail of mine. I am happy to be in a safe and clean spot. If you have a spot in your house I can be safe in let us know. I would love a forever family that I can be loved and cared for. Please complete an application at safeanimalhaven.org if interested in giving Lucky a forever home!August 17, 2024, 12:06 am

Story
When Lola came into the rescue, she was a hefty 12 lb chihuahua. Her former owner became ill and could no longer care for her. She is spayed, current on vaccines, and preventions.  Lola is looking for a foster/adopter who is committed to helping her lose weight and getting her socialized.  Ideally, this would involve hand feeding so that she can start to build a bond with her foster/adopter. Since coming into rescue, she has lost some weight and is becoming more active.  We have learned that Lola will play with your feet and that she is a huge fan of pizza crust.  She loves her doggy bed, too! She is pee pad trained and goes to the door to poop - but won’t go outside - and prefers to use the peepad.  This girl is slow to warm up but does want to be loved. She likes attention and even talks back when talked to. She is head shy, so if you go towards her with your hand, she lets you know that she does not like that and will use her teeth. It will take a special foster/adopter who is willing to work through this issue with her.  An ideal home for her would be an adult only home.  She is dog friendly.August 14, 2024, 4:06 pm

Story
Little Shug is a sweet Chihuahua mix. She's 1yr old. spayed, 10-12lbs, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. In typical Chihuahua fashion, she can be shy. Shug is a lot shyer than her sisters. Chi owners will know what we're talking about. She will need much more socialization. You just have to have a little patients with her. Shug is dog friendly and enjoys playing with her foster siblings.  A fenced yard is a must for Shug. If you think this sweetie would make a great addition to your family, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.pawsitiveimpactncdogrescue.org ##1744487##

Story
Bast is a 2-year-old possible Italian Greyhound mix, but his medical records indicate Chihuahua. He looks like a real-life version of the dog from The Simpsons. He weighs about 12 pounds and is crate trained and house trained. Bast came to us from a hoarding situation, where dozens of little dogs like him were in a very small home. He is very nervous in new situations and will take above average time to warm up to new people, therefore we he would love a home with another dog showing him that humans are okay and show him the ropes and a fenced in yard. Once Bast gets to know and trust you he loves being held and cuddled but will also quietly entertain himself in his crate for hours. He loves his crate – it’s his safe space and will go in on his own when he’s tired or just wants a break from the other dogs. He is active and athletic and even though he’s little, would make a great running partner. He would also be fine in a more sedate home if he had a safe yard to let the zoomies out. Due to his shy personality and needing above average time to get comfortable with new people, Bast does require a fenced in yard and is would not be a candidate for apartment type living Bast is great with the four larger dogs in his foster home and while we haven’t seen him around cats, we expect he will be fine with them. He is not comfortable with young children and will try to chase them away, so he needs a home with no kids under 14. If you want a little dog with a big personality, Bast may be the one for you. If you are interested in adopting Bast, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet’s age.    **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. ** August 19, 2024, 1:20 pm

Story
Rodney is a very curious, mischievous little guy who gets into everything, just like a little puppy. They say this guy is around 8 years of age and weighs 12 pounds, but he acts like a kid and he shows it by running a lot out of pure joy and fun and he adores being outdoors and laying in the sun. He is not good on a leash yet and is not housebroken but we are working on both. Cats are not welcome in his world at this point because he finds them strange and annoying.  But he redeems himself with a family by loving to cuddle and snuggle.  Can you believe that underbite he has?  I mean it is the first thing you sort of notice about him.  It might make him look tough but Rodney is a 'softie' through and through.  He is just an adorable, sweet pup and he deserves a much better home than the hoarding conditions that he came from.  Maybe you want to help him see the blessings of a new home and secure lifestyle.  He will make you laugh, he will make you smile and he will make you feel loved!  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in giving him a forever home.  Please tell us the city and state that you live in when you write to us. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.August 19, 2024, 2:03 pm
