Story

Bast is a 2-year-old possible Italian Greyhound mix, but his medical records indicate Chihuahua. He looks like a real-life version of the dog from The Simpsons. He weighs about 12 pounds and is crate trained and house trained. Bast came to us from a hoarding situation, where dozens of little dogs like him were in a very small home. He is very nervous in new situations and will take above average time to warm up to new people, therefore we he would love a home with another dog showing him that humans are okay and show him the ropes and a fenced in yard. Once Bast gets to know and trust you he loves being held and cuddled but will also quietly entertain himself in his crate for hours. He loves his crate – it’s his safe space and will go in on his own when he’s tired or just wants a break from the other dogs. He is active and athletic and even though he’s little, would make a great running partner. He would also be fine in a more sedate home if he had a safe yard to let the zoomies out. Due to his shy personality and needing above average time to get comfortable with new people, Bast does require a fenced in yard and is would not be a candidate for apartment type living Bast is great with the four larger dogs in his foster home and while we haven’t seen him around cats, we expect he will be fine with them. He is not comfortable with young children and will try to chase them away, so he needs a home with no kids under 14. If you want a little dog with a big personality, Bast may be the one for you. If you are interested in adopting Bast, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet’s age. **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. He has not been treated kindly in life.We are working on allowing him to decompress and feel safe. What Rusty needs to be successful.•Very slow intros•No small children•A soft place to rest and rebuild his trust in humans•Lots of cuddles and kissesWhat we know about this sweet boy•He loves to chill and relax•He is working on his leash skills, not sure he was ever walked.•Potty training is a work in progress, he’s doing great with a schedule and positive reinforcement.•He still pancakes when approached so go slow •He does well in the crate•Doesn’t seem interested in toys but not sure he was ever given one•Does well in the car•Is doing well with my 2 small dogs, slow intros •Does well with older kids•He is happiest at breakfast and dinner ??•Soft food, his teeth are not great•Enjoys treats•Quiet, not a barker.•Low energy, he is happy laying in the sun on his bed or on a soft blanket on the couch. •He is heartworm positive and has had his first treatmentIf you can provide this wonderful boy the home he deserves filled with love and cuddles,give him the time to decompress and learn how to be a confident dog please reach out to his foster Carrieparziale@gmail.com

Had a few accidents the first day in foster but has not since•Seems friendly towards dogs outside on walks - no barking even when other dogs bark at him•Has been left alone outside the crate for up to 3 hours and has done well•Super velcro dog - would do best with someone who works from home or is home often•Cat friendly - doesn’t bother or chase the cat in the foster home•Sleeps in the crate all night - after just 2 days in foster, I don’t even shut the door anymore and he sleeps in there through the night•So sweet, he just LOVES people - this silly wiggly boy will be in your lap 24/7 if you let him•Quiet work from home buddy, barks occasionally if he hears people in the hallways but listens when I tell him no•Craves attention & pets - seriously just loves people so much and wants attention•Does not guard food or toys - I have been able to take things from his mouth with any issues, have not seen him eat around other dogs•Doesn’t know commands yet, but is still a good listener. He does know “crate” and “place”•Walks okay on the leash but stays very close to you and get under your feet sometimes so can be known to trip you on walks
