**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Hermey! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Hold on to your hearts and get ready to meet this tiny gentleman – this is Hermey – and this is his UPDATED BIO! Hermey is a gorgeous long-haired Chihuahua weighing in at just under 6lbs. He is estimated to be 8 years old and has a soft red coat, expressive ears and the Grinchiest feet around. One look in those brown eyes and you’ll be wrapped around his little toes which suits him just fine. Hermey is an agile little man who is ready for whatever his new family has on their schedule. Hermey was picked up as a stray and taken to the pound. As you would expect, the pound is scary for a little guy like Hermey so when no one came to claim him, Pound Dog stepped in to take over his care and help him start his new life. Lucky for him and lucky for me! Hermey is loving, loyal and intelligent and he is going to be a fantastic companion for his new family. He can be insecure and nervous at times but he has made great progress in our time together so he is looking for a patient family to help him continue to heal and evolve. As I’ve been working with him in my home I can promise you that it’s totally worth it! It’s my suspicion that in his previous life he was not always treated with kindness and patience so he is still working to learn to trust. Before we go much further let’s talk about Hermey’s medical history since he’s been in rescue. Hermey arrived with a cough that persisted so we had our vet team conduct some tests. Hermey has now been diagnosed with a collapsing trachea which, unfortunately, is not uncommon for Chihuahuas. Hermey is on a pill every other day and he is now symptom-free. His new family needs to be committed to keeping Hermey as safe and comfortable as possible. This means that he benefits from a calm home where he is not pushed into too much agitation as it aggravates his condition. He is also a dog who walks using a harness that is rigged to his collar for safety. It’s important to note that in general, a dog with a collapsing trachea can live a normal life span with proper management and treatment. It will be important for his new family to work closely with their vet team to develop a treatment plan that is tailored to his needs and to monitor his condition closely. His condition does not seem to affect him other than the coughing (without the pills) and he is a joyful little clown who is going to be the next great love of someone’s life! Hermey would do well in any home type as he is agile enough for stairs and generally pretty quiet. He can be reactive when he sees animals on the TV so you just need to be sure your neighbors are tolerant of occasional barking. We’ve been working on this but the little guy LOVES to watch TV so it’s a slow road. When he’s not watching TV from his nest of blankets on the couch Hermey can be found patrolling the yard or waiting not-so-patiently for some affection from me. He works those little feet to hold my hand to his chest for the best scratches. He LOVES affection as long as it’s on his terms – quick movements or pets that last too long can still make him nervous. It’s taken time to learn his triggers and his behaviors but now that I know him we have developed a wonderful relationship. When he is pushed too far Hermey can be reactive which looks like lots of growls and quick mouthing. I’ve felt his teeth on me during these outbreaks but never with any pressure – he shows great bite restraint. And he has found a lot of confidence while he’s been living with me so these episodes are fewer but he is still growing and we can expect some regression when he moves in with his new family. Hermey loves to patrol the yard and go for walks. Every blade of grass is a new opportunity to pee on something. When we are out walking he is curious about people and dogs but we keep our distance. He has shown little interest in the wildlife in the neighborhood and is happy to just trot along for as long as I want. His new family needs to be committed to getting him out to see the world – he loves a good lay on the couch but he has an adventurer’s spirit so he wants all the walks! One of my favorite things about Hermey is his devotion to his people. This little man is going to bond strongly with his new family and that means company in the bathroom, a sous chef in the kitchen, and supervision in every other household chore. He loves affection on his terms and once he has developed some trust it’s easy to see when he starts to get uncomfortable. When he first arrived, I could not get anywhere near his back end but these days he enjoys a good butt scratch. He’s small enough that it’s easy to miss his body language if you’re not paying attention so his new family needs to be committed to working with Hermey on these points and helping him feel safe to find his trust and confidence. Another thing I love about Hermey is the way he prances around the house, especially if he is happy or excited about something. He hops and dances and play bows all over the place and it’s impossible to not fall in love with him every time. Hermey was house trained when he arrived and will go to the door when he has to go out. The only accidents he has had in the house have been obvious marking behavior which have greatly improved. He will just need to be monitored when he gets to this new house to make sure he can be corrected before any accidents happen. He also took to the crate right away and happily rests in there with a treat. He gets a little upset if he’s in there while I am in the room, pressing his little feet on the bars and giving me his best puppy dog eyes. He sleeps in his crate at night without issue as long as he has sufficient blankets to burrow into and a cozy bed. Hermey has been a great passenger in the car as long as he is secured in a booster seat or with a seatbelt. He is very calm and settles right away. Hermey has a coat that will require regular maintenance. As he is still nervous about a lot of things his new family needs to be sure they can handle this task or that he has a groomer who can handle his energy and keep him on a regular schedule. Hermey is very good with selective dogs and can be a bit unpredictable with others. He is not aggressive or dangerous but his insecurity means that a friendly interaction can suddenly be too much for him to handle and he lashes out or makes inappropriate corrections. He sometimes instigates play but then can be pushed too far and become fearful and reactive. He would be fine with other dogs of similar size as long as they were calm dogs who could tolerate his occasional outbursts and his new family made sure to monitor interactions and make corrections as needed. He has trouble with new dogs but over time he has settled in well with our pack here and is often found cleaning EVERYONE’S faces – whether or not they are asking for it! He would also be fine as the only animal in the house so he could soak up every bit of attention. He has not had interactions with any cats but we expect that he will react similar to how he does with dogs and need some time to get accustomed to them. I’m sure it will not come as a surprise that we are also looking for an adult only home for Hermey. Children, with their unpredictable movements, will be too triggering for him. We cannot expect children to learn his subtle body language so they would just further his insecurity and distrust. Hermey knows his name and some key phrases we use all the time. He is very smart and is one of those dogs who is so in tune with his person that he just seems to understand what you are saying and can deliver what you need. He is great to take treats gently and he’ll go into his create with a command and treat. He has recently learned to sit and wait for his meals until he gets the release command. Anything else will have to come from his forever family who will be required to enroll Hermey in a professional training class. His smarts and his love of his people and food will make him a great pupil! Hermey was already neutered when he came into foster care. Since he’s been here he has had a dental cleaning with lots of extractions. He has about 15 teeth remaining and he does just fine! He is up to date on vaccinations and health tests and he is microchipped. He was not a fan of the vet which is not a surprise and they had to dig out their teeny tiniest muzzle for him. With me holding him they were able to get done what they needed but this will be something else his forever family can help him become accustomed to. Hermey still has some learning and rehabbing to do and he would thrive with a family who has some experience dealing with his behaviors. It’s easy to let these things slide with a small dog but Hermey deserves a chance to be a well-balanced boy so his family needs to be committed to working with him. A calm household will be best for him as he builds his confidence and will also be helpful to keep his medical condition under control. He is a lover on his terms so his new family needs to be able to give him space when he needs it and all of their attention when he’s ready for it. He loves his people, his blankets, his treats and his couch. If you have all of these things and need a new little man in your life then maybe Hermey is the guy for you! For Adoption: Gino! This dapper gentleman is on the hunt for his partner in crime, his forever person or family, his adventure and snuggle buddy. Meet Gino, an approximately 18-month-old Chihuahua cross with a gorgeous blue and tan, sleek and shiny coat. He weighs around 12lbs and has a long legged, athletic build. People often think Gino is older than he really is due to the white hair in his face that looks like age sprinkles here and there, but he really is just the youngest 'old man' looking guy. Although a little shy at first, this guy is so devoted, comical and adventuresome and is willing to do anything with his person. If you like the kind of dog that wants to be included in every aspect of your life possible, keep reading, because you may have just found ‘the one’. Gino came to us from an animal hoarding situation where he lived with well over 50 other dogs. Although the dogs were loved, they really lacked socialization and veterinary care. Gino has a couple of items lingering from his lack of care, but nothing of concern that causes him any issues or requires any treatment. First, he has a scar on his eye that shows up as a cloudy spot on his pupil. This does not affect his vision in a negative way, does not cause him any issues at all and there is nothing to be on the look out for regarding it. Second, Gino had what appeared to be some bruising of his spinal cord. When he first came into rescue, he would lose his balance regularly and had a real lack of strength in his back end. With some physio exercises, strength building and time, this has healed up. Very occasionally he may lose his balance, but it is very minor, he recovers quickly from it and it does not affect his mobility. He may always have moments of losing his footing, but it is so rare and minor it is nothing of concern. Gino is very much a 'people' dog. Even though he currently lives with other dogs and generally gets along with them well, he chooses his person over them every time. He will snuggle with them, play with them, and is happy to walk with them, but his true joy comes from spending time and adventuring with his person. Gino bonds hard and fast and can get possessive of them where other dogs are concerned. It's for this reason that he would be best suited as the only dog getting all the attention to himself. If he were to live with another dog, it would have to be one that is fine taking a back seat in the human affection department or it could be a source of conflict for them. Gino finds dogs larger than himself to be intimidating having not had exposure to them prior to rescue. His choice of a canine companion would be an independent, more submissive female dog his size or smaller, but again, as long as he has you, he doesn't care if he has a dog companion. Gino will require an adult only home or one with teens. He is one that will try and dart out a door and needs everyone in his home to be fully aware of this and have the utmost responsibility to guard against him running out. A busy home with a lot of comings and goings will be too much for him and as is the noise and activity level of children as well. A quiet, peaceful home suits this boy best. In the home Gino is generally well behaved and is sure to be found wherever you are...bathroom and all. He is what some might call a 'velcro' dog. Gino wants to be included in everything you do, as much as possible. It would be difficult for Gino to spend an entire workday alone without his people as his joy and sense of security is very much tied to their presence. We are looking for someone who is either retired or works from home so Gino doesn't have to spend hours on end by himself. He also has a little (albeit manageable) separation anxiety that presents as some barking when you leave the home and boy can he sing the song of his people when you return. He is so overjoyed it is hard for him to contain himself. Gino will not be suitable for an attached dwelling situation as he is sure to disturb your neighbours during these periods of your coming and going. Although he is housetrained and readily goes to the bathroom outside, he is not yet sure how to signal to you that he needs to go. He is crate trained which is very helpful for those periods when you can't watch him and being proactive with getting him outside is key. He is ridiculously smart though and as long as you are consistent with routine and supervision, he will catch onto your schedule and expectations quickly. Outside of the home, Gino is a great walker and he rarely barks at other animals unless they encroach in his personal space or are vocally reactive themselves. If you find yourself in that situation, creating space and distracting Gino is very easy as he lives to please you. He wants to learn how to make you happy and be the dog you want him to be, but he needs you to take the lead and make sure he has space if he is feeling insecure. Aside from that, he is all about adventure and is happy to hit a trail, sit on a patio with you, visit friends and family or do a road trip. In his time in foster, Gino has traveled very well in the car, happy to curl up and sleep in his crate or on the seat where he is harnessed in for safety. Gino was a rockstar at the vet and has been absolutely wonderful to bathe and groom. He has shown no aggression whatsoever in these situations. In fact, his vet team commented on how lovely he was to work with. Gino's teeth are still in great shape and working on getting him used to brushing and chewing dental chews will go a long way to them staying like that. He has no dietary issues, he just needs gradual introductions to new food and treats. Gino has no health issues and is a young, strong, athletic guy with many years ahead of him. If you are looking for that dog you can include in your life as much as possible and aren't one content to never leave your yard or home, Gino just might be your guy. He has so much love and affection to give, he possesses that deep devotion to his people that Chihuahuas are so well known for and he has the heart, curiosity and athleticism to be your adventuring pal. Gino charms everyone he meets and he is going to steal your heart...you will be so glad that he did! #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #rescuedog #adoptdontshop #pounddogs #pdr12years #pounddogrescue12yearsstrong Name: Gino ID # PDR2058 Age: 18mths Gender: male Neutered: yes UTD vaccines: yes Breed: Chihuahua X Colours: grey and tan Coat length: short House trained: yes Special needs: no OK with kids: no OK with cats: U/K Ok with dogs: yes Status: adoptable Microchip: yes Size: small Location: Kitchener Adoption fee: $800

Story
Rosalina is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Rosalina was an owner surrender with her sister Luma. Rosalina is approximately 7 years old and a chunky overweight 16 pounds. She definitely needs some exercise and to be on a diet. Rosalina was very nervous when she first came in, but she is extremely sweet. Rosalina is a submissive dog and she gets along with all dogs, cats and kids. Rosalina walks well on leash. I still have not heard her bark. She is potty trained, travels well in the car, loves people and attention. She’s not a huge fan of change or chaos and it makes her nervous. She is not as confident as her sister and she would prefer a home that is pretty low-key without a lot of change. She is a quiet and easy going dog with a gentle demeanor and a huge heart just waiting to learn to love again. Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. Story
Luma is currently being fostered in TEXAS. Luma does have a cherry eye, but she will be having that removed on June 20th. Luma and her sister Rosalina were owner surrenders. Luma is an all around good girl. Apx 6-7 years old and a chunky overweight 16.5 pounds. Luma needs to be on diet and get exercise. Luma rarely barks. She walks well on leash, she is potty trained, is great with cats, kids and dogs. She is good in the car and has an overall great demeanor. Her and her sister were very nervous when they first came in, but they are opening up more and more every day. Luma is playful and silly at times and more confident than her sister. She is very friendly and although this chapter of her life has been difficult, the best is yet to come and we know that there is a great family out there for Luma. Story
Currently in Texas PLEASE READ BIO CAREFULLY Daffy is approximately two years old and 8 1/2 pounds. She is from the backyard hoarding situation here in Pleasanton. Her siblings are all the flower names 🙂 Daffy is amazing. Sweet, gentle, loving, silly, kind and adorable. She has a big heart and gets along with cats, well mannered children (no small children please due to her bad hip) and dogs , (no large hyper dogs please due to her bad hip). Daffy unfortunately does have some bone degeneration in her left rear hip. She does not seem to be in a lot of pain, but she walks funny. Someday she will put full weight on that leg and somedays she favors it a little bit more. Daffy runs, jumps, plays, can do walks and stairs fine, at this point. We did have her at our vets office and had her x-rayed. The vet did recommend that she gets an FHO surgery. https://vcahospitals.com/.../femoral-head-ostectomy-fho... This is a pretty invasive surgery with a long healing time. To be 110% transparent , the rescue does not have the financial freedom to get this surgery done, it’s a $2400 surgery (In Texas). We also do not have the staffing and man power to give Daffy what should require after the surgery as far as rehabilitation and rehab. On a personal note and I am not a vet, I had this surgery done on my own personal dog many years ago and it was awful. She was in so much pain. I was crying at night listening to her cries. After months of healing she never had full range of motion of that leg, it always bothered her, and just in my personal opinion, it was not worth the cost or the pain she had to go through. All of this being said, we do love Daffy and want to get her into a wonderful home. We are hoping we will be able to adopt her out even with her bad hip. Her new family can decide if they would like to get the surgery done at their own cost and timeframe or maybe they would prefer some other less invasive options. We are leaving it up to the person that adopts Daffy. I am happy to send videos and xrays to potential approved adopters. She is a darling dog and has a good quality of life. Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. To get approved please visit our website www.texaschihuahuarescuecanada.org to fill in an application to adopt.

Story
CURRENTLY FOSTERED IN TEXAS Carnie (more brown/tan) and Wendy (brown and white/ a bit older) Carnie is apx 6 years young and 7 pounds, Wendy apx 8 years young and 6.2 pounds. These girls are probably not litter mates but most likely still “sisters” they were in a southern Texas high kill shelter. We are unsure how they got there but they were terrified and dirty. Carnie was literally crying when I was bathing her, it was terribly sad. These girls are very sweet, quiet and gentle, I know someone loved them once upon a time. They were not spayed ( of course now they are ) but it does appear they had dentals as Wendy is missing several teeth and the ones still intact look good for her age, and Carnie may have had a cleaning, none missing but there is not a substantial amount of tarter for a dog her age. Carnie is more sensitive and shy, scared, has the shaky chihuahua thing when she is nervous but never ever aggressive. Wendy is a little more confident and trusting. Both are extremely docile and demure. They are absolute dolls and we adore them, they are so well mannered. The girls do seem to be somewhat potty trained and will go outside potty or use the potty pads at night time. They are 110% lap babies Great with other dogs, cats and well mannered older children. Do to their age and small size, very hyper large dogs, hyper puppies or toddlers, on a full time live in basis would probably not make them very happy, but I think visits from any of the above would be fine. These girls are super low key, calm, shy, loving couch potatoes. They MUST be adopted together, they are very bonded.
