For inquiries email julia@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $500 Location: Washington, DC Things to know about Tanner before applying to adopt: 9 month old short hair Chi mix (possibly dachshund) He is long and lower to the ground than a chihuahua about 8 - 9 pounds he was neutered June 11th sweet and friendly, can be skittish at first but warms up quickly no children recommended at this time even 12-13 year olds stress him young adults MAY be considered (16 years old and up) may be best as an only dog or with a young dog who wants to play, an easy going dog would be best walking well on leash adopter and dog will be required to attend basic manners/obedience training to complete the adoption he loves to swim he loves to cuddle older men tend to scare him What my foster mom says about me: Tanner is an 8 - 9 pound chihuahua who came to use with behavioral issues. We learned after taking him into our care, he did not like men and children. He was protective of women, only liked puppies and was generally anxious and shy. Our first hurdle to tackle was his medical care. We had him seen by the vet for vaccines, a fecal screening and an exam. He was neutered June 11th. He has since healed without any issues. After his neuter, he began to show his anxiety and started guarding his foster mom. He would not allow his foster dad to come near foster mom. He began, garding and getting more anxious, and he started barking at the older children in the home (10+ years and up). For his safety and the safety of the foster family, we made the decision to move him to another foster home. The new foster home had not children. We hoped removing the stress would help him adjust to one stressor at a time. That plan did not work. He continued to hard bark and growl at men as well as the small chihuahua in the second foster home. He did however have great walks and time outside which allowed his foster mom to see the dog he can be. He loved swimming, particularly after a hot walk. (see photos). Our foster coordinator desperately tried to find a local trainer to take him and we finally found one to work with us. The only problem was it would cost $3500. Our president sent a plea to The 15/10 Foundation and they agreed to sponsor Tanner by paying for his training/boarding. We were ecstatic and relieved! Tanner was going to school. Fast forward to August 3, 2024. Tanner was moved a few days earlier to his new (and current) foster home. He then went to The Dog Wizard, Chantillyfor 2 weeks worth of boarding and training while foster mom was on a work trip then vacation. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. He has really worked hard and come so far!! See his videos included in photos. Tanner will come home today! (8/14) We cannot wait to see his progress and continue working with him. The training school provides 2 in-home sessions after leaving "school" and life-time support to his new owners! We cannot thank The Dog Wizard and The 15/10 Foundation enough for their support. And, a huge shoutout to Julia his foster mom. We hope the third time is a charm and he will now find his forever home. Apply now if you are interested! He is ready for adoption!   Please visit our website www.compactcaninerescue.org to learn more about this amazing pet and see other adoptable dogs.

Story
Rodney is a very curious, mischievous little guy who gets into everything, just like a little puppy. They say this guy is around 8 years of age and weighs 12 pounds, but he acts like a kid and he shows it by running a lot out of pure joy and fun and he adores being outdoors and laying in the sun. He is not good on a leash yet and is not housebroken but we are working on both. Cats are not welcome in his world at this point because he finds them strange and annoying.  But he redeems himself with a family by loving to cuddle and snuggle.  Can you believe that underbite he has?  I mean it is the first thing you sort of notice about him.  It might make him look tough but Rodney is a 'softie' through and through.  He is just an adorable, sweet pup and he deserves a much better home than the hoarding conditions that he came from.  Maybe you want to help him see the blessings of a new home and secure lifestyle.  He will make you laugh, he will make you smile and he will make you feel loved!  Please email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in giving him a forever home.  Please tell us the city and state that you live in when you write to us. PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.August 19, 2024, 8:06 am

Story
Silver Sam is 5 years old and weighs 12 pounds.  Part of a big hoarding case, he was taken to the shelter and there he sat for a few months.  Critter Cavalry Rescue could not stand the thought that he was in that out of the way shelter where no one comes to adopt a dog.   We pulled  7 dogs from that hoarding case and some had been there for 6 months.  Sam is a hoot as they say.   He is funny and active and must be watched if in a chain link fenced yard.  He might find an escape route and take off just for the fun of it.  He doesn’t go far but he sure does love the chase.  He is good with other dogs and he is full of antics with the cats.  He is almost housebroken and he is just the most loving lap dog ever.  Such a great smile and attitude despite some terrible conditions in his previous life.  He is with someone that loves the Chihuahua breed and understands all the little quirks.  He really has not bad habits except the fun of occasionally making a run for it just to see you panic.  Just a little Houdini in his spirit to have some fun.  If you are interested in this guy please email us at ccrtennessee@gmail.com Tell us where you live   and what city and state.  PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 19, 2024, 8:06 am
