She arrived at DPS on a rescue transport with her 5-day old litter after her family lost their home during the Southern California wildfires. Our heart aches imagining the devastation and transition she experienced through that ordeal. We welcomed the chows with open arms and promised to give them all great lives. The pups are now grown, so it’s mama chow's turn to find her forever home. With head-turning good looks and a loyal, smart and playful personality, she’ll make a wonderful companion. A note from her foster: Cha Cha was a love from day one. She settled in and quickly learned her new surroundings, taking great care of her young family. Once her pups were weaned she had more time to explore and play :). What follows is an outline of a typical day and her personality. We wake up by 7am and head outside for potty and playtime. This is followed by breakfast (wet food with kibble mixed in). We settle into work with breaks for playtime and walks throughout the day. Cha Cha does well in a WFH or in-office environment as she’s calm and not a big barker. Dinner is about 5pm (same menu as breakfast), with lights out by 10pm. Cha Cha has indoor/outdoor access throughout the day and moves easily between the areas. She enjoys outings, riding well in the car, and is equally comfortable hanging out with her people at home. Cha Cha is a very happy dog. Her tail wagging has two gears - side to side and also a 360 degree swirl. When she sees you her tail spins in circles - we think she’s going to lift herself up off the floor :). She enjoys playing, whether it’s with a human throwing the ball or a friendly dog. Many people have come by to meet her; with a respectful introduction, Cha Cha interacts well with kids and adults alike. She loves to roll over for belly rubs, and snuggles in for movie night. She's like having your very own teddy bear. Cha Cha is housetrained. Not a single accident. She is intelligent and enjoys learning new things. She weighs in about 54 lbs - the perfect medium size dog. She takes treats with the SOFTEST mouth of any dog we’ve known. Cha Cha eats and drinks well. Doesn’t ever whine for food or counter-surf. She reaches out with a gentle paw when she’d like more pets. She has never chewed on anything. During the work day she’s sometimes alone, free to roam the house and yard. Very respectful, never an issue. She’s tried an assortment of toys, and the squeaky plushies seem to be her favorite but less for the squeaks and more for the plush. We find them endearingly scattered around the yard. We have a senior dog who has never been interested in dog-playing. Cha Cha has a playfulness about her and keeps trying to entice him, but our fella always says, “no thanks.” Cha Cha will make a terrific addition to your life. Prior chow experience preferred. Grooming is necessary for this breed; recommended to start with an oatmeal bath. If there are children in the home, please be over the age of 10. April 5, 2025, 3:17 pm
