Story
Ivy is a 1-year-old chow mix pup looking for a forever home. Ivy is lovely but still very much a puppy. She is still quite mouthy. Ivy is housebroken and loves toys. She is great in the car but needs more training to not pull on leash. She will alert bark when someone comes to the door but is not very barky. My daughter rescued her from an abusive situation two months ago but I have two elderly dogs for whom she is just too much. She is athletic and would make a great running or hiking companion. She gets along well with dogs in the dog park and at the beach.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750 Only YOU Can Prevent a Life Without Smokey!  Smokey the Bear once told the world, “Only YOU can prevent forest fires.” But this Smokey has a different message: Only YOU can give him the forever home he deserves! This 8 week old Chow Chow from the Bear Litter is a rare gem—fluffy, fearless (except when he’s figuring out new things), and already proving to be as loyal as they come. Whether he’s zooming around the backyard, lounging like a king, or plotting his next genius move, Smokey is the kind of pup who will ignite a lifetime of love and companionship—without setting anything on fire. Loyal Like a Chow, Lovable Like a Teddy Bear  Chow Chows have a legendary reputation—they’re independent thinkers, steadfast guardians, and ride-or-die companions. Smokey is already showing his signature Chow devotion, with an extra side of snuggly sweetness. He won’t throw himself at you for cuddles (he has his dignity, after all), but if you scoop him up, he’ll melt into your arms like a toasted marshmallow. His intelligence is next-level—when playing chase with his foster brother, he realized he couldn’t outrun him… so he waits in ambush instead. Smokey isn’t just smart; he’s strategic. House-Trained at 8 Weeks?! Believe It!  Smokey has a shocking superpower for an 8-week-old puppy—he’s already housetrained! That’s right—no accidents, no midnight puddles, no pee pads needed. He understands that business belongs outside, and with regular potty breaks, he’s a housetraining prodigy. While most puppies are still figuring out the whole “outside vs. inside” concept, Smokey is already ahead of the game—which means less stress for you and more time for belly rubs. A Pup Who Adapts to You  Smokey is the ultimate choose-your-own-adventure puppy. Want a playful buddy? He’s got zoomies and games for days! Prefer a laid-back couch companion? He’s just as happy lounging in the sun like the chillest bear in the woods. He’s amazing with dogs of all ages (he knows when to play and when to respect boundaries) and has been great with kids (11 and up). He’s also already pen-trained, crate-savvy, and just an overall perfect little dude. The Perfect Home for This Little Bear? Yours.  Whether you’re looking for an adventure buddy, a guardian with a heart of gold, or a laid-back best friend, Smokey is ready to be your forever bear. He’d love a home with another dog to show him the ropes, but he’s so smart and adaptable that he’ll thrive anywhere he’s loved. With his unstoppable cuteness, his housetraining magic, and his fierce loyalty, Smokey isn’t just a puppy—he’s the best friend you didn’t know you needed. Don’t let this little fire go out—apply to adopt Smokey today!    March 16, 2025, 12:54 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $750   Meet Paddington, a charming and endearing 8 week old Chow Chow with a heart as big as his fluffy coat! Much like his namesake, Paddington Bear, he’s a little reserved at first but quickly shows his lovable and playful nature once he feels at home. When Paddington first arrived, he was shy, nervous, and unsure of his new surroundings, much like a bear exploring a new world. He spent his first day quietly observing from his safe space, hesitant to interact but gradually warming up to his new family. After some patience and gentle encouragement, Paddington has become a much more confident and playful pup, ready to take on new adventures. True to his Chow Chow roots, Paddington has a calm and composed demeanor with a touch of independence. He enjoys his alone time but also loves playing with his foster dog sisters, engaging in gentle, playful chases and enjoying his toys. He’s got the perfect balance of energy—while he’s often full of curiosity and joy, he also loves curling up on a cozy blanket for a good nap. Paddington is a classic Chow in that he enjoys frequent naps throughout the day, always finding the most comfortable spot to relax in. Paddington’s Chow Chow personality also shines through in his strong sense of independence. He’s still learning how to walk on a leash, but like any good Chow, he prefers to go at his own pace. He tends to take his time on walks and needs some encouragement, but with the right guidance, he’s making steady progress. True to the breed, he’s cautious with new people and situations but warms up with patience. He’s particularly shy around unfamiliar dogs, preferring to observe from a distance, just like a typical Chow Chow. However, with his familiar foster dog sisters, Paddington feels confident and enjoys some playful moments. One of Paddington’s most endearing traits is his stubborn yet gentle nature. While he’s not fond of being confined to a crate or x-pen (a classic Chow trait—he prefers to roam freely in his home), he absolutely loves having access to the house and all of its cozy corners. At night, Paddington prefers to settle in the living room with his foster dog sisters, where he feels safest. He’s not the type of dog to demand constant attention, but when he’s in the mood for affection, he’s all cuddles and tail wags. Paddington would thrive in a calm, peaceful home where he can continue to build trust and confidence at his own pace. He’s still learning to feel comfortable in new situations, so he would do best in a home without young children or loud, sudden noises. A household with adults or older, gentle children would be ideal for him. Paddington also enjoys the company of other dogs, especially ones that are calm and well-adjusted. A friendly, confident dog companion would help him feel more secure and encourage his playful side. He needs a patient and loving family that will respect his independent nature but also shower him with plenty of affection when he’s ready. As for fun facts, Paddington is a bit of a character. He may not love bath time, but his adorable cries and protests during a bath are sure to make you smile. And just like his bear namesake, Paddington has a goofy side—he loves chasing his tail and jumping around in excitement, though he might miss the couch or tumble in the process, adding even more charm to his playful personality. Paddington’s Chow Chow spirit and gentle nature make him a truly special pup. With a little patience and understanding, this sweet boy will be the loyal, loving companion you've been looking for. His playful, yet calm energy and his endearing quirks will steal your heart, just like the famous bear he’s named after!March 17, 2025, 5:50 pm
