Meet Red, a 53-pound male Chow mix.Red got his name from his gorgeous coat. He was brought to the adoption center by Wapato animal control and has been doing great. Red does his best to keep a clean kennel. He has been in a temporary pop up kennel due to over crowding and remained quiet and relaxed. We would love to see Red have a great yard as he is a fun lover.This pet is available for adoption on 7/11/24 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center. If you recognize this animal please contact the adoption center at 509-457-6854.If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an adoption questionnaire at www.yakimahumane.org. A Yakima Humane Society staff member will contact you once your questionnaire has been processed. Adopters are welcome to visit the adoption center Monday-Saturday. A Picture says 1000 words...right? While an animal's picture draws interest, the reality is that as a potential adopter most people would like as much information as possible about a pet. The Yakima Humane Society is an open admission shelter. What does this mean? Over 90% of the pets at the adoption center arrive as strays, no history of behavior or medical care is known. Adding a pet to your family is a big responsibility. Please research carefully and remember that adoption is life saving. Adopt Don't Shop.

Meet FLUFFY- a young (2-3yrs) old female Chow/German Shepherd/Akita (DNS test results) mix- that is petite and brings around 45lbs to the scale. Life had not been good for FLUFFY, and she could have died on the side of a road in Victorville, CA in January. Would it not have been for a good Samaritan who noticed two dogs lying on the side of a highway, she would have died there as she could not get up: her hip was displaced as she and the other dog had been hit by a car. This individual rushed her to a vet clinic nearby that was open on New Year's Day and could put the hip back, followed by strict crate rest. It was then that ADR.org heard about this incident and connected with the person who found her. When FLUFFY was scheduled for spay, the surgeon saw that she was pregnant. FLUFFY gave birth to eleven puppies on the last Day in Feb. She was a wonderfully dedicated mom. Up to now, all of her have been adopted except for three. Since the beginning of May Fluffy has lived on Orcas Island with the founder of ADR.org. She lives with other dogs and two cats. Fluffy is very smart, submissive as well as strong willing. Observations show that she might be better compatible with female dogs than with male dogs. But these are just observations and are not restrictive. She is good with cats in a household. Likes to patrol on solid fenced property, FLUFFY is independent and tends to respect a strong pack leader (human) as her “friend” or leader more than an undecided and fickle one. She would be a very good long-distance hiking partner being athletic as she is, and the fact that she likes long walks in Mother Nature. ADR.org thinks that FLUFFY would not do well in a city setting. If you are interested in meeting her, and here and seeing more of her you would need to be able to come to Orcas Island where she remains as of now. Story
We got Yeo when he was 8 weeks old, since then he has been a constant companion in our home and one of the most amazing pets we have ever owned. Yeo gets along well with other dogs and often plays with my one-year-old at home. He loves walking outside the home and going to dog parks. Since he is a guard dog, he is not that friendly to strangers who come to our place but warms up once he gets to know them. Our dog has no special needs and he can stay anywhere inside the home. We have trained him extensively with a trainer and often responds to commands like yeooo, go, sit, etc. He is up to date with all the meds, and vaccines and quite recently we neutered him. We require a family who can love him as much as we loved him.

Animal Profile:  Millie was listed as a ~2 year old retriever mix, but based on her personality we think she is maybe a little Chow with a sprinkle of street dog. She weighs 32lbs. She is a traveler at heart - she walked herself right across an international bridge and found herself in Del Rio, TX. Our rescue partners scooped her up and she is enjoying life in foster care. Warm bed, squeaky toys, and people and pets to play with. We are excited to meet this happy girl here in Seattle! Foster Update: Update on this girly.  She's doing great! She has settled in enough that she will work for cheese on our walks and is giving good engagement. She's getting 2, hour plus walks every day and is now way more comfortable around bikes and strangers. Honestly if I didn't have a senior kitty I'd be tempted to keep her; she’s got good house manners and is very well behaved in her crate. Millie is a little insecure meeting new people that come right into her space, and she prefers to take things slow but does warm up. With continued training and proper socialization she’ll be a wonderful addition to the right family. She has already learned sit, down and come and has pretty good recall with minimal effort. She lives to sniff and enjoyed her hike, pretty easy going on leash, but also needs proper intros to new dogs. Millie would do best in a single family home with a fenced yard - she loves to sit outside and enjoy the smells.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. He gets along with other dogs as long as there is a proper introduction.He is a happy go lucky boy. He has hip issues so long walks aren't recommended. He does like walking leisurely around the yard. TEXAS ADOPTION ONLY Do you see my tongue?? I mean, it looks almost ELECTRIC blue!! That is how you know I am a real chow boy, well, that and my chow 'tude!! I know that so so many people love love my breed, and the rescue people are excited to find my forever family!! They will have to be very chow knowledgeable because not only am I a chow, I am a pup who was found scared and starving in the cold and rain. And I am slow to warm to new people. So, I have learned to trust people since the rescue people take such great care of me, and I definitely need to meet my new family before we go on our merry way :) I have a gorgeous black coat, a gorgeous black tongue and am ready for adoption!!
