Story
Adoptable Ziggy here, ready for a new forever home! Ziggy came to us from another local rescue after being picked up as a stray. He is a 2 to 3-year-old Collie mix who weighs 36 lbs. Ziggy is smart and quiet. He spends a lot of time just observing his surroundings at the shelter. He really enjoys going on walks, though, and is great on the leash—no pulling and stays close to his walker. Ziggy is a bit of a serious dog but is friendly and enjoys receiving pets. We think once he finds his family he will open up and become even more affectionate. This smart boy will make a great companion for an active, engaged family! Ziggy is open to meeting other dogs and can be cat-tested. We think he would do fine with children. Apply for Ziggy at lvpeaceablekingdom.info! As a rescue, We do not euthanize dogs but dogs that are listed as URGENT are still waiting to be saved from animal control and they do euthanise. We can only save them when space is available or have an adopter. Hazel We think she is about 3 years now. Her favorite thing is a Jolly Ball and she can entertain herself for hours. She is a Collie mix and active. She is super affection and playful. She can go over the fence, but stays in and plays with her ball. She did go over the other day but it was to get attention from staff member Justin. Dogs and kids yes now available for adoption

Story
Are you looking for some joy to beat the winter blues? Well, meet Joy! This 3 year-old collie mix is sure to melt the blues away. She is 32 pounds of fun, from scampering in the backyard with her foster family's resident dogs, to sniffing on the walks she loves, to snuggling while watching football, to TRYING to climb a tree after a cocky squirrel, to showing off her balancing act by strutting on her back legs (yep--her foster family calls her the "Dancing Queen"). Joy is house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all her vaccinations. Her fur almost glistens and she has  some subtle tan spots on her face. Check out those soft ears that  often tilt forward. Joy is working on getting more confident when she meets unfamiliar dogs she encounters when walking on leash. Back at home, she loves pulling dog toys from the bin and carrying them to one of her many favorite spots. Who knows--maybe Joy will be bringing an extra dose of love to your Valentine's Day. If you are interested in applying for Joy, email  almosthome4dogs@yahoo.com   (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Story
Riley, thought to be born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is currently in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $415 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in

Story
Hi, I’m Nye! I’m a blue heeler with a lot of personality, and I’m looking for my forever home. I was surrendered to the shelter when my owners lost their home—it wasn’t anything I did, just a tough situation. Now, I’m ready to find a new family who’ll love me just as much as my old one did. I’m a bit of a character! I love playing with toys, especially if it means running around and keeping busy. Once I get to know you, I’ll be your best buddy, and I really enjoy spending time with my humans. I’ll admit, I can be a little cautious at first, so it might take me a few meets to warm up and trust you. But once I do, I’m a loyal, affectionate dog who’ll stick by your side. Because I’m full of energy and love to stay active, I’d do best in an active home where I can get plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. If you’re looking for a fun, playful companion who’ll keep you on your toes, I might just be the perfect fit for you. Let’s take this journey together!
