Story
Meet Sadie! Young Collie Pup | Looking for Her Forever Home Say hello to Sadie, a sweet, docile collie pup who’s ready to wiggle her way into your heart!  Sadie was born on August 16, 2024.  Sadie is a gentle soul — curious about the world but never over-the-top or excitable. Around the house, she’s content to quietly observe the action… unless you leave a towel, shoe, or newspaper unattended! Sadie’s got a sneaky side and loves a little mischief, but it’s all in good fun (okay, she might say the kitchen mat incident was “a learning moment” ). She stays entertained with toys, hearty beef bones, and plenty of backyard adventures, happily hunting sticks or romping with her dog friends. Sadie LOVES other dogs and enjoys playdates where they romp until they’re happily worn out. On walks, she’s a bit zig-zaggy thanks to her curious nose, but she has great manners and is learning quickly. Sadie is a little timid meeting new people but warms up fast — she’s polite, doesn’t jump, and loves affection once she knows you. &#226&#156&#133 Crate trained (sleeps through the night, handles daytime crating well) &#226&#156&#133 Knows “sit” and “down,” and comes running when she hears a whistle (especially if there’s a treat!) &#226&#156&#133 Loves car rides &#226&#156&#133 Unbothered by household noises like vacuums, doorbells, or lawnmowers &#226&#156&#133 Stays close and loves snuggles and belly rubs Sadie is a sweet, funny, and loving pup who’s ready for a family to call her own. Could that be you?If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Our standard adoption fee is $450. This fee helps us to cover (and sometimes only partially cover) the expense of providing each dog with a Health Exam, Rabies/DHPP vaccines, Heartworm Test, Heartworm Preventative, Flea & Tick Protection, Microchip, Neuter/Spay, a Bath and any other medical needs.  Thank you for your consideration in adopting a collie in need!!! Story
Bentley is a Big Personality. He is smart and funny and endlessly playful and is pretty sure that he is in charge of everything. At two, he's a grown-up, but young enough to be busy. Bentley settles well and is perfectly behaved in the house - fully housebroken, no chewing except on his own toys - but he has a lot of energy. He will run and run and run and play and play and play and be ready to go again after a surprisingly quick nap. Bentley gets along well with other dogs and plays with friends of all sizes, shapes, and ages. We are working on his leash manners, but there's so very much to sniff and explore and see! He is very affectionate and cuddles in bed with his foster mom, and greets every household member with excited love.   Bentley is looking for an active family who will give him opportunities to play with other dogs and burn off all that energy, and mostly who will adore and cherish him. He's a special guy, and will bring a great deal of love and fun to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him.    If you are interested in rescuing a collie, please complete this short adoption questionnaire. Name: Fern Sex: Female Estimated Age: About 12 weeks old (as of 5/15/25) Best Guess for Breed: Collie Mix Weight: About 15 lbs (as of 5/15/25) Lives With: Dogs, cats and people! Housebroken? She’s working on her potty training and making great progress! Story: Fern was rescued from a shelter in South Carolina with two of her littermates. We are so happy to have her safe and sound in a foster home in the DC area now. Fern is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs and puppies. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Fern is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. Like all dogs, Fern will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive! What my foster says: Beautiful Fern is doing very well settling into her new foster home. She's currently living with children and another dog. She's a sweet, happy girl who is going to make a great addition for your family. Areas where Fern already thrives: giving kisses, playing with other dogs, sleeping in her crate until someone from the family gets up in the morning. Areas where Fern is still making progress: house training, leash training, sleeping on a dog bed without rolling off and making a gentle thud on the floor.  The fee to adopt Fern is $475. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines. If you think that Fern might be your perfect match, apply today!May 21, 2025, 2:16 pm

Story
Name: Citra Sex: Female Estimated Age: 6 years old Best Guess for Breed: Border Collie Mix Weight: 59lbs Lives With: Citra is currently living with two adults in an apartment environment. Housetrained? Citra is housebroken and crate trained. She also knows all of her basic commands. About Citra: Citra is an adorable 4 year old border collie mix who is incredibly smart and loves to learn new tricks. Fun facts: she knows over 15 commands and is working on several more, she’s a mozzarella cheese aficionado and butt scratches are her favorite! She also loves sunbathing - she can go for hours without moving from a sunny spot! Please read more about her below! CITRA’S PERFECT MATCH: PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults is ideal. Citra needs crate time when guests come over, but can warm up with a slow introduction and some treats. Because she is shy, we are recommending she not go to a home with small children. She can be quite scared of other dogs and cats, and would do best as the only dog in the home. However, she has been working her hardest with us to overcome her fears, and has shown lots of progress recently! PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard away from the bustling city. EXERCISE NEEDS: Citra enjoys long walks on the leash and rolling in the grass belly side up at the park. She could play fetch and tug all day long with her humans! However, she is also very content to lounge around the house. She is such a playful pup and would love to learn new games and activities! She loves untangling a towel to get to her food, and that tires her out just as much as a walk! She should not be taken to dog parks. BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Citra is a sweetheart. She loves to play with her humans and then take naps on the couch or in her crate. She is slowly but surely learning how to interact with new humans, but it takes a lot of treats and patience to gain her trust. Once she gets comfortable, she would love nothing more but to snuggle up with you all night long. She is quiet and comfortable in her crate, knows the “place” command, and does not have accidents in the home. CRATE: Citra loves her crate, she will sleep and relax there during the day and while her humans are not at home. She also sleeps in there all night long! Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated) Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs. Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity. The fee to adopt Citra is $475. That covers the cost of all her vaccines, the collar she’s wearing, her transport to DC and her care in her foster home. She’s up to date on all age appropriate vaccines and already spayed. Citra has been seen by a shelter vet and we are not aware of any health issues. If you think that Citra might be your perfect match, apply today!February 28, 2025, 10:22 pm
