Story
Age: 2.5 years old Located in a foster home in PA Weight: 32 lbs. Vet Record: 100% vaccinated, spayed, microchipped, female Puma is a sweet, calm, and knee-high corgi-shepherd mix. She doesn't dream of being as fast as her namesake, but she wouldn't mind being friends with one! In fact, Puma is great with cats and walks beautifully on a leash. She has a very impressive and kind, smart gaze that will melt your heart. She can be a bit shy in new environments, but give her a little time to open up, and she'll be your best friend. Puma will gladly go on car rides, strolls through the park, and relax at home while you're working. She is housetrained and quiet, making her a wonderful apartment companion. Puma would be happy to share her home with another dog and cat or be the only canine in the household. If you have some extra love to give, consider sharing it with Puma, and you'll be rewarded with a cute, snuggly pup! Fill out an application to make her yours! Story
We're thrilled to welcome the newest little lady, Bella! When we saw a plea to rescue Bella from an overcrowded inner city shelter we knew we had to make it happen, as she wasn't doing well. Bella is a middle aged, pittie mix and what she's mixed with is anyone's guess! Corgi? Bassett hound? Dachshund? Definitely something with short legs! She's the ultimate low rider, with her creamy brown coat, big ears and adorable bunny hop-run. She has a calm, sweet temperament jumping up lightly to give hugs. Bella is as snug as a bug in a rug? Her favorite place is cuddled underneath her favorite blanket! So what if it’s June??? This girl knows how to get comfy. When it comes to being cute and adorable Bella understands the assignment. She enjoys short walks, quick zoomies in the yard, peanut butter treats and of course her blankie! She’s a low maintenance gal and doesn’t mind being your couch buddy. A ride in the car or a trip to a local brewery are good with her too as long as she’s with her people. Bella is ok around other dogs but prefers not to share a home with them, she wants her family allllll to herself. We think she’ll give more than enough love for one dog.? If you love the low riders and think Bella could fit into your lifestyle please fill out an application at pittiesandpals.com

Story
5 years, 35lbs, Corgi/Terrier Mix, Neutered - Low Rider (Super cute short legs)  Is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Thier Foster Parent Says: "Reading is truly one of the most loveable, adorable and angelic pups I've ever met! He is such a softie + sweetie – but still loves to play. Not destructive, no potty accidents, seems to know what off means for the most part... He loves a long walk but he also loves a long nap and cuddle. He's fun to train (we just learned to sit!), loves treats and destroys chew toys in under an hour (happily). He does NOT like his salmon kibble, however when mixed with some wet food he'll eat it, but he is quite the picky eater. He walks really well, loves to sniff everything, but doesn't seem to eat anything off the streets/isn't interested in eating things that aren't food or treats. He definitely has a mid level of energy and gets a 60-90 minute morning walk at about 7:30am, but can definitely keep up on a long Sunday stroll around town (was fine on a 2 .5 hour walk around with some breaks!) He loves to say hi to all other dogs, but sometimes the tail goes down and he'll growl a little, so I always make sure the tail is wagging before letting him say hello! He loves to come into my room to wake me up at 7:00am like an alarm clock, but sleeps solidly throughout the night with no disruptions. He definitely needs to lose a few pounds but has great energy levels/no issues with lots of exercise. He still has a very puppy-like energy and excitement!  Overall, he is such a great pup with a lovely personality. He doesn't seem to mind the sounds and does well on the streets of NYC."  Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy Level  MEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Energy Level Medium — Not bouncing off the walls but needs long walks and playtime, likes to be active Cuddle Bug Level Medium — Likes to snuggle when he's in the mood but often stays in his own bed – I WOULD SAY BETWEEN MEDIUM TO HIGH Potty Trained Yes — Few or no accidents - NO ACCIDENTS :)  Comfy with strangers? Yep — Wants to be friends with everyone who walks by, super social butterfly, loves anyone who will stop to say hello. Good with Children? (ALWAYS requires supervision) Not a great match for a home with kids — calm teenagers and up is okay.  He is very sensitive/a little mouthy (but gently) at playtime. Good with Other Dogs? Mostly — Generally good with other dogs but may be picky (scared of big dogs or plays too rough for small dogs, for example) – Was in a foster home with another dog and did great - same size and energy level.  Good with Other Animals? (cats, small pets, etc.) Yes — Good with cats!  Mouthy Behavior?  Low – Little to no interest in chewing on stuff or putting things in its mouth that aren’t food. Doesn’t try to chew on hands, feet, etc. during playtime, doesn’t wreck your stuff — only chews on appropriate things like dog toys and bones.  Leash Manners? Old Pro – Seems like a dog that has been on leash before. Doesn’t pull hard or need much direction.  Okay in the city? Yes  — Spooked easily by loud noises and bustling areas but walks pretty well and probably just needs more time to adjust (may be a puppy or a brand new rescue) Jumping on People to Say Hi? Medium – Jumps up only on people the dog knows when really excited. Stops with correction. Separation Anxiety?  Nailing It - Reading is doing super well home alone with the use of a crate! He's crushing it. Before I leave the apartment I will put him in there with a treat about 10 minutes beforehand so he can get adjusted. He might cry for a few minutes at first but then he settles down.    Crate training?  Yes - uses the crate to help him be okay with being home alone :)  Medical status Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm negative; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake  How this dog ended up with Social Tees: Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc

Story
❗Current Location: in a foster home in South Korea❗ Meet Mango :) She was rescued from a high-kill city shelter and was about to be euthanized. However, due to her refusal to be touched by strangers, she underwent a lengthy training program with her foster family and is now doing very well. If you give her enough time and unconditional love, he will become your best friend. • Affinity with -Cats: She is currently doing well with the cats in her temporary home. She is not aggressive towards cats and ignores them. -Dogs: She is currently getting along well with the dogs in her foster home. They usually play well together, but there are times when she is shy. -Adults/Kids: She is shy with people, and is good with people she knows well (she gets treats), but is very cautious with touch. Sudden touch from strangers (adults & kids) can cause her to act defensive (she hasn't bitten yet but acts like she will, or she pees when picked up and held suddenly, or she jumps away), but she will sniff and recognize when approached cautiously. • Shedding: Usually, her coat will increase when winter comes. The fur gets stuck to the fabric rather than shedding. • Walking Manner: She loves to go for walks, in both familiar and new places. Sometimes hesitates to go for a walk in crowded places (but does well in moderate crowds). • Housetrained: She's housebroken and doesn't cause too many problems, but she still chews on wood and plastic items. She goes potty on her pee pad, but much prefers to do her business outdoors. When outdoors, he relieves himself on dirt or grass. • Bathing/Brushing: She takes baths well (though not her favorite). She also likes to be brushed. • Separation Anxiety: She has always lived with other dogs but has no problem when her foster family goes out of town. • Bark or Howl: She barks when she hears strangers outside. She barks when strangers come to visit, but there's no aggression - she doesn't howl. • Carsickness: She gets nervous when riding in the car, so she can get car sick when traveling for long periods. She tolerates it well for about 30 minutes. • Her favorite things are a set routine, family, walks, playing in the park, and her favorite treats (tridles, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, cheese, chicken, beef, duck, etc.) • Personality: She is a little timid, cautious, gentle, and good-natured. She loves going for walks with her family, spending time at her favorite park, and just being at home with her family. She also loves walks, parks, and hikes, and at home, she's happy to be in her own space (fluffy or crate) or sit quietly by her family's side.
