Story
Cutie pie little Martini is about 12 weeks old and waiting for her forevers at our adoption center in Southbury! She's just as sweet as she is cute and she will be a fun addition to any loving home! She enjoys playing with other pups and loves all the nice people that she meets. Martini Is spayed/neutered, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, treated for all of the intestinal parasites, and current on flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Because intestinal parasites are cyclical, your puppy may need additional treatment once you get him/her home. This is common and nothing to be alarmed about. Puppies and dogs need to be treated periodically for parasites throughout their entire lives. Visit our website to see our weekend Events here! Pups with the designated “meet me” next to their names are in CT and ready to attend adoption events. Please check with your adoption coordinator if you are interested in a specific dog prior to coming to an event, as a dog's availability to attend can change at any time. We can not guarantee approval on site at the events, so we recommend applying ahead of time. You can apply at the event, but the application process may not be able to be completed the same day. If you are not pre-approved, you are still welcome to come and meet pup’s at the event! The adoption fee is $600 which includes spay/neuter, up to date vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm preventatives, and the mandatory CT HB 5368 fee. More and more of our adopters are having fun with DNA tests on their pups. You might ask yourself why our breed guess is varying degrees of difference from the DNA tests. Most of our puppies are rescued from high kill shelters or other abandonment situations and we have no info on parents. When we rescue puppies that have no background info, we make our very best educated guess as to breed mix and age. Our guesstimate comes from years and years and years of animal welfare work and training, but our guesses won't always agree with your vet, your neighbor, your DNA test, etc. The most important thing to know about your puppy's breed mix is that most likely he/she is a Super Lovable Mutt made of many many many different breeds. If you are a MA resident, your new family member is required to go through a mandatory 48 hour quarantine period at the Woburn MA isolation facility. Your new family member will be dropped off by our transport on Thursday and will be ready for you to pick him/her up on Saturday between 11 am-1 pm. An additional $100 fee will be added for any dogs picked up from the Woburn MA quarantine facility. This additional fee is necessary in order to comply with MA Order 405-CD-12 and Order 1-AHO-05. TO APPLY PLEASE GO TO www.cprdogs.com. If your application was successfully submitted you will get an automatically generated confirmation email. Please DO NOT USE the ADOPTAPET "CONTACT THIS RESCUE GROUP" form below or you may not hear from us as these often end up in spam or bouncing back. After receipt of your application, an adoption counselor will then be in touch to answer your questions about this pup, discuss the adoption process and get the ball rolling! If you have not heard from one of our volunteers within 5 days of submitting your application, please email mollibo@gmail.com.

Story
Meet Reishi, a sweet, shy 8 month old neutered male dachshund mix, weighing about 23 lbs! Unlike his siblings, he has long legs, which is from the pinscher mix in him per the DNA tests from his siblings.  He is full grown.  Reishi and his siblings were rescued from a hoarding case in TN. As a result, Reishi was not properly socialized as a young pup and the world is a scary place for him He is a nervous boy and he takes time to warm up to new people and situations, however he is super sweet and, once you have earned his trust, he will shower you with love! Reishi would do best in a quiet, calm home. He does best with women, it takes him longer to warm up to men (particularly large/loud men). Due to his timid nature, we recommend older kids 8+ who know to respect a dog's space, or no kids. Reishi would love a dog sibling to help show him the ropes and make him feel safe! He has not been cat tested, however we feel he would probably do fine with cats. From Reishi's current foster:  "Reishi has had a traumatic past, but he is a wonderful boy and just needs some patience and understanding to help him feel comfortable and safe. Sudden movements, close proximity, and eye contact when first meeting can be extremely threatening to him. This sometimes triggers a low bark, and sometimes a loud bark (never a bite). Once he has deemed you as safe, he is able to manage all of these with no problem. He is still working on desensitization and crate training. He would do better in a quieter home area with an enclosed fence for free play.  Noted that enclosed spaces are a source of trauma, as are humans. So a wire crate would be best to try vs an enclosed kennel. He does really well with low to medium energy dogs, even strangers! (I just have to remind the human to step further back to allow him space to be comfortable.) Once Reishi has deemed you a safe person, he is an incredibly happy, goofy, playful puppy. He aims to please, and seems to strongly connect to one owner. As scary as the world can be for him, he loves being outside, going on walks, and playing with soft squeaky toys.  Reishi trusts people whom he sees being good to other dogs more easily. He could benefit from a family that has another dog. Given the hoarding situation, it has been challenging for Reishi to feel comfortable enough to pee outside of the house (his aim on potty pads isn’t always the best but he’s trained on them!) We recently have been able to get a few potty breaks outside. He will require quite a bit of continued training, yet is a loving, beautiful soul who truly deserves a patient, safe home and has already made great progress in a short period of time." Apply to meet this sweet boy today!  ##2083262##

Story
Daisy is a 15-year-old, quiet little girl with soulful eyes, who is bonded with Rufus. Both pups can take time to warmup, but once they know you, they are sweet and loving. Daisy is the more laidback of the two but can be led astray by her brother from time to time! They are hoping for a quiet home with experienced owners, and no young children. Environment They are crate trained and house trained too. The pair prefer doing their business and getting exercise in their own back yard, so a fenced yard will be needed. They don't necessarily need someone who works from home since they are fine in their crates.   Pets & People Daisy prefers the company of Rufus, and the pair would do fine as the only dogs in the home. However, they are accepting of other dogs as long as introductions are done slowly and approached with love and patience. Separation should continue at mealtimes as she isn’t shy about taking other dogs’ food. With new people it’s a similar story—she needs time and patience. Once she accepts you, she just wants to be petted and loved. Health Daisy is deaf and has a heart murmur for which she is receiving palliative care. Rufus is important to her as her bonded partner and as her "emotional support animal". The cardiologist recommended a diet free of legumes (currently eats Royal Canin Mature Adult). Luckily, she takes her medicine very easily, but should be sedated for vet care or stressful situations.  Location Daisy and Rufus are available for adoption from Wheaton, MD. They are a little whiny in the car but will quiet down eventually.  Please email doxelovr@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the link above. The adoption fee for Daisy has been waived due to her health and comfort care requirements.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 19, 2024, 5:31 am

Story
Muppet Bio Muppet is a little one-eyed guy with a big personality. He’s 11.5 years old, 12 lb, with a beautiful dapple coat. He came to Little Paws when his family became unable to meet his needs. He’s looking for a calm new home where his people will be around (or with whom he can go on adventures) most of the time. There’s nothing like his happy dance and seeing him get excited is like seeing a puppy with zoomies! Environment Muppet is house and crate trained. He loves to sleep in his crate and doesn’t get up in the night, but we’ve seen some marking behavior he’s working on that. He loves to explore in the yard and he tried to chase the chickens in his foster home. Ideally his new home will have a fenced yard and no shared walls. Muppet walks well on the leash but is working through some reactivity, he’s quite fearful of big dogs and acts dominant toward little ones. Because of his vision impairment he can be easily startled and we wouldn’t trust him not to bolt. For the same reason he can be chatty. Pets & People Muppet will be aloof at first, but warms up quickly and will be in love with you before you know it. He wants to be near his people, but he’s more of a shadow than a lap dog. Around new people he will act tough and greet them vocally, but not aggressively. He’s untested around children and we’ve noticed that he doesn’t like fast or erratic movements so a home with children would not be a good fit.  Muppet would be best in a home without other dogs or with very calm smaller dogs. He doesn’t like being jostled—especially around his head/face and gets a little grumpy with the seniors in his foster home. If you’re looking for a devoted little adventure pawdner—this could be your guy.  Health Muppet has special food for sensitive tummies, and two eye drops in his remaining eye for glaucoma. His left eye is gone, and he doesn’t have the best vision but he does just fine getting around and living life. He will need quarterly checks on his eye.  Location Muppet is available for adoption from Kenly, NC and adores riding in the car. Approved potential adopters must be willing to drive to Kenly, NC to meet Muppet prior to adoption. Please email horselovertrish@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Muppet is $250.
