Story
A SWEET & SHY GIRL:  Approx. 7 years old / Approx. 14 lbs. Hi, I’m Leni!  I came to Mostly Mutts from a home that had a lot of dogs! We needed help when our dad had to go into hospice care, so Mostly Mutts took me, and quite a few others, into their program. Now I’m ready to find a new home and family of my very own!            • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I came in with other dogs, and there is another dog in my foster home, but we mostly ignore each other, so if you have a dog at home already that isn’t looking for a playmate, let’s meet. / I’m also living with a kitty and ignore her too. / I am very scared of young children, so only older, calm kids such as 15+, please. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I was very scared when I arrived at the shelter since everything was new to me.  I came from a home with many dogs, and I’m still getting used to being loved on and getting the attention that was missing in my former home. I was adopted and unfortunately escaped from my new family almost immediately and was on my own outside in bad weather for over a week. That caused a setback in my learning to trust, but I am making progress despite that and look forward to having my own family!  They will need to be very patient with me, but I’m looking forward to a loving and calm family. / My energy level is currently 3-5. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I’m currently working on building trust in people and it’s coming along with my foster who is patient and kind. / I sleep in a crate in my foster home but my favorite place is on the couch with a blanket. I’m learning to be a normal household dog and it’s going great! / I’m doing well with my potty manners so long as I am taken out regularly. Due to my escape trauma, I will likely not go out on my own in a fenced yard until that memory has faded, but if you will be consistent with me on a good schedule, I believe I will master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES:  As I’ve grown more comfortable, I enjoy hanging out with my foster, though I can still be a bit hand shy.  My foster mom and I spend time sitting together and I enjoy cuddling with her!  Also, I love Pup-Peroni treats so that may help me warm up to my new family. I enjoyed walks before my escape episode and expect they will be less scary again soon. / I do not care for being picked up as it seems that I may not have been handled as softly as I would have wanted to be previously. I wouldn’t want to be rushed into new situations or relationships, so please know that I’ll need extra time to settle in. I also wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get good care and gentle attention in my new home. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I needed a good dental cleaning when I arrived at Mostly Mutts, and I’ve had that now so my mouth is fresh again. I’m currently taking an inexpensive anxiety medication which I may or may not need to continue once I settle into my new home. Since I'm a dachshund, I naturally have a long spine which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy.      I am looking for a loving home that will welcome me as a furry family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.  January 3, 2025, 6:41 am

Story
A SWEET SENIOR LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL:  Approx. 15 years old / Approx. 14 lbs. Hi, my name is Macy!  I had a great home with a mommy who loved me very much, but – sadly – she passed away, and her family couldn’t keep me, so I am in great need of a new home. Mostly Mutts is looking for a senior-loving person or family to adore and spoil me rotten for the rest of my life – long or short.  If you have a heart for the seniors, I’m your girl.  • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  There are dogs in my foster home, and I simply ignore them, so if you have a dog that won’t want to play and will just coexist with me, let’s meet! / I’ve not met cats in my foster home, but – my foster feels that I would likely do fine with them if they left me alone. / Due to my age, and over enthusiasm of people food, mature kids such as 15+ would be the best match for me and – of course, let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am a sweet senior girl who is a doll.  I don’t play anymore, but I do occasionally romp around my foster’s home/yard and sure do have a lot of love to give.  My foster reports that I’m easy going and just want to hang out with my person, nap in a comfy doggie bed and watch the world go by. I’m the perfect lap dog on a cold winter day! I am very food motivated and take food way too enthusiastically, so I should not be hand fed at all – just drop whatever you would like to give me into my food bowl, and I’ll be a happy camper. My foster will talk to you and tell you all about me! / My energy level is 2-4. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I don’t know any specific skills, though my foster says I get the gold medal for my sleeping talent! Lol. / In my foster home, I fuss for just a minute when put in my crate but then I give up and settle in. / I am not potty trained, so my foster uses a diaper with me. If you choose not to use a diaper, I would do best in an area with easy to clean floors! • LIKES/DISLIKES:  I like to be held, and I like multiple comfy dog beds in my home.  Car rides are nice, and I am used to them, so let me tag along when you are out and about sometimes – I just fall asleep on the floorboard. / I can’t think of any dislikes, though I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, good care and attention. • MEDICAL:  I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  I have a grade 3 heart murmur, for which I take Vetmedin twice daily. I easily take this medication in a little piece of cheese dropped into my food bowl (not hand fed).  I also have a fatty mass under my arm on my left side that doesn’t bother me, and I hope it doesn’t bother you either. I had a dental cleaning so my mouth is fresh again. Since I'm a Dachshund, I naturally have a long back which is subject to injury, so please don't allow me to jump on and off furniture so we can keep me safe and healthy. I am looking for a home where I will be a much loved and deservedly spoiled family member.  My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.   January 25, 2025, 11:37 am

Story
Meet Boone, a gorgeous and super silly long haired red male, who also happens to be an IVDD survivor. He arrived with a back injury and has gone through surgery. He's still primarily paralyzed but does have some tiny movement in his legs. But don't let that fool you into thinking he's slowed down at all. HECK NO!!! This boy is a professional when it comes to scooting or asking to be carried...and he's up for just about any adventure you care to take him on. He adores the car and wants to be with his people all the time. His bladder does need to be expressed, which is ridiculously easy and not messy at all. Just a little press on his abdomen & wheeee....you're done. Let us show you how. It makes him the most perfectly house-trained dog. WIN!!! Honestly whether he walks or scoots, he's the happiest little camper ever. Mr. Social !!! He has a real zest for life and brings joy to everyone he meets. Boone does enjoy his wheelie cart but b/c he's got such good foot placement when supported, we are encouraging him to keep strengthening his leg muscles to stand. If you know DREAM, you know we never give up. Because thru dreams, most anything is possible. Well almost anything....just not cats for Boone. He thinks they are toys and he will not stop chasing them. Unfortunately, he will annoy the heck out of the cats. DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe this guy is really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well. One of the original board members wrote this extremely helpful book about day to day life with a "down dog".... Honey Have You Squeezed the Dachshund. If you are interested in adopting Boone, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Boone's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Boone will go to his / her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Almost every dog's veterinary expense is greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Instagram , Facebook and Twitter

Story
Blake was picked up as a stray by Animal Control and no one had come for him. He's a big boy at 28.8 lbs at Intake. He's not so much overweight, as just a big boy. We guess is he's mostly a standard dachshund mixed with something else. He definitely does not have the dachshund snout. Border Collie? Spaniel? Flat coat retriever? Guess away, cause Blake ain’t telling! Poor boy was in rough shape when he came into DREAM. Much hair loss and eyes filled with discharge-but all that's changed now. Blake’s hair is growing back and his eyes now twinkle with delight. His veterinarian aged him at 6-7 years with many years of love to share. Blake is 100% potty trained and will even whine at the door to let you know he needs to go out. That must come from outside of his dachshund heritage 😜 He loves to play with squeaky toys but isn’t good at sharing. Blake has learned to love going for walks and is a perfect gentleman on a leash. Blake likes to get introduced and get to know new people. Once he knows you, he is a lover and absolutely loves to be petted when he feels safe and trusts the person. If you are interested in adopting Blake, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Blake's adoption fee is $450. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Blake will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed. Story
Diesel Boy is an adorable little guy who loves being walked on a leash and wants constant attention. He's very good on walks and not bothered by squirrels along the way. Diesel Boy can get anxious when his foster dad has to leave as he doesn't like being left alone. His foster dad is working with him but Diesel is working hard at finding joy in his “me time.” His adopters will need to have a schedule that will allow his trading to continue. Diesel Boy is a velcro dog and loves to cuddle and play with his foster fur sibling. He likes to come put a toy in your hand and then play tug of war with it while play growling excitedly through this entire process. He’s quite the talker but a definitely a lover! This smart guy is a pro at potty training and he has been taking several walks a day as he is a very active dog and needs to burn off lots of energy. A physically active home is a must to keep Diesel physically and mentally healthy and happy. Diesel Boy just turned 4 on October 31st. Happy Birthday and its all treats no tricks for this little guy! Diesel will be a great little dog for someone with an adult only home. He can be a little over zealous when he plays. If you are interested in adopting Diesel Boy, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Diesel's adoption fee is $700. Story
Dutches is silly, quirky dog who loves to be in the middle of the action. She came to DREAM after her owner was unable to afford her vetting. She had very large bladder stones that now have been removed. Good news, they are the type of stone that is managed by keeping her on a special dry kibble. Dutchess experienced a IVDD back injury 2 years ago. She is able to walk some but does need assistance expressing bladder and bowels. But this does Not slow her down! Dutches is very loving with adults, older kids and other doggies. She certainly has a zest for life and is ready to find her loving person or people! DREAM has helped dogs of all capability levels and we believe Dutches really easy to care for. Resource material is available for you to order as well.
