Story
Meet Teva, our two-year-old Dachshund lady!   This showstopper is crate and potty-trained and looking for her forever family. She has done great with the kids and dogs in her foster home. Teva was used as a breeder in a puppy mill for the first two years of her life, but despite this, she is an all-around well-adjusted and happy girl. She's medium energy, confident, curious, sweet, and independent, with a little mischievousness thrown in for good measure.   Her foster calls Teva the neighborhood gossip. She loves to watch the comings and goings in the neighborhood from the yard and windows. True to her Dachshund breed, she patrols the yard searching for bugs, skinks, and small animals. In fact, her favorite things to do are to hang out in the yard, sniffing everything... and lying on the porch with her dog friends. Inside the house, she never passes up an opportunity for snuggles under the blankets or movie-time snacks. Her fur is the softest in the land, and we could pet her for hours. She barks on occasion but is not nearly as vocal as most Dachshunds. Teva looks like a deer and is simply adorable.   Teva will be available after she has been spayed. You can apply to adopt her now at greendogsunleashed.org/adopt. Preference will be given to adopters within one hour of 22974. Due to her difficult start to life, positive reinforcement training with GDU is required. This can be in-person group training, in-person private training, or virtual.    At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2062597##

Oswald is the cutest and funniest little guy. He loves to run and play. He came is about 2 years old. He came from a home where he was never provided with veterinary care. He had cherry eye, retained baby teeth, wasn't vaccinated or neutered. But, we got him all healthy and now he is ready for his furever home. Oswald loves people and other dogs. He is definitely a high energy boy who loves to play a lot. Please fill out our adoption form at www.hoovesandpaws.org/application to apply for Oswald!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Sunshine (12 yo) and Vanessa (14 yo) are a bonded pair. Vanessa is tiny and just wants a lap. Sunshine is a barky sassy dachshund girl. Both had recent dentals and had some major extractions. Vanessa is a little hard to keep weight on, and Sunshine is hard to get weight off of. They both love adventuring in their fosters' yard and going for walks. They both love laps and attention. Both are very loyal and loving and chill. Reliability housebroken and crate trained. Sunshine did have an IVDD episode recently where she woke up one day unable to use any of her legs. With some meds and rest, she recovered. We can’t guarantee that won’t happen again, but she shouldn’t do a lot of stairs, jumping, etc. That should help prevent reoccurrences. The girls haven’t been spayed yet. We focused on their dentals as they both have heart murmurs and didn’t want them to stay under too long. We always spay our dogs, but there has been some debate as to whether we should spay these girls. We can discuss that with their adopter! These girls have a momma who loves them desperately but can’t care for them anymore near Winchester, VA. We would request that the adopters stay in touch with her daughter or at least share updates with K Kids that we can share with the family. Go to kkidsrescue.org to apply. The adoption fee is $200 each. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2024, 12:11 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Athena and her littermate Akka came to us together, and would probably like to stay together, but we don't think that is necessary.  Athena is a little shy around new people and will make a lot of noise when a visitor comes around, but when we took her to an adoption event, she enjoyed saying hi to all the people who came to say hi to her. Athena does like to climb and perch on things, such as chairs, tables, and counters. Athena might be part cat!!!  Speaking of cats, we aren't sure how they do with them, but they seem to do fine with children, although it might take them a bit to get used to very tiny people.  Athena is crated trained and pee-pad trained and housebroken when kept on a schedule (so she's a dachshund).   Athena doesn't mind other dogs.   Athena's adoption fee will be $300 and she will be fully vetted before she is adopted.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2024, 12:11 am

Story
I am Daisy, a pleasantly plump, 8-year-old classic Basset looking for a family to smother me with love, cuddles, and treat me like the queen that I am! I came to BROOD from a home where I ate more human food than dog food and the vet said I have about 15 pounds to lose to be a perfect weight for a gal my age and size. My foster family has been working with me to cut the calories and try and increase the exercise so I will need a family willing to help on my weight loss journey!I am fully house-trained. I love roaming outside or warming myself in the sun, and sometimes I forget what I am out there to do. I will need a home with a fenced yard as I don't much care for walks for exercise. I prefer to take things at my own pace on my own schedule. I am crate-trained and sleep quietly there through the night. I love people and getting all the attention I can. I do startle pretty easily when napping, which is my favorite pastime, so I would do best in a home with older children who know to let me get my beauty rest. I need to go to a home as the only dog. I want all the attention for myself and don't like to share my family with other dogs. I don't mind the cats here--we just go our separate ways. I can be stubborn when it comes to food. I want whatever you have, my favorites are pizza, burgers, and chicken. But I won't turn down veggies and fruit either. I am learning about "cookies" and love a milk bone treat for when I am being good.I've yet to meet a person, or their food, that I didn't instantly love! Please contact BROOD today!!! My adoption fee is $200.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/. We adopt to residents of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, DC, Delaware, and southern Pennsylvania. Do not apply to adopt from BROOD if you live in another state. We require a virtual home visit and a veterinary reference. The age of many BROOD dogs is unknown, as very few come with official records. The estimate on the dog's age is usually the initial estimate given by the receiving shelter, which may be different from that given at the time of the initial checkup. Different veterinarians may also give different ages, and those different opinions are sometimes reflected on the record. ***BROOD's adoption fees are determined based on the age of the dog. 07/13/2024

Story
I'm Remmy, a charming 9-year-old Basset mix who came to BROOD when my previous family could no longer care for me. My sweet, easy-going, and laid-back personality makes me a wonderful addition to any family!I'm house-trained, crate-trained, and do great on a leash or during car rides. While I'm a bit shy when meeting new people, I warm up quickly to new faces and places. I get along well with everyone, including kids and other dogs, though older children who understand my shyness might be the best fit for me.Even though I'm a bit older, I'm still quite active and love playing with and chasing after balls! I'd be happy in a home with a fenced yard, but I'd also do well in an apartment or condo setting.I enjoy the company of other dogs but would be just as content as the only dog in the home. I thrive on attention and affection from my people and am always happy and easygoing. My cheerful demeanor and lovable nature are sure to bring a smile to your face!If you're ready for a loyal and loving companion who's always up for a game of ball, contact BROOD today and let's make each other's day! My adoption fee is $150.00.**Only BROOD-approved adopters can meet a dog (no exceptions). Our adoption application is on the BROOD website at https://brood-va.org/adoptionapp/.
