Story
Ember is a 6 year old female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She is super friendly and tender loving. Upon first meeting, I felt that Ember had been well loved and well cared for. While we don't know her past history it's clear she loves affection and being part of the family. Her tail is cropped a little bit longer which is nice because it shows her emotion, energy, and eagerness. Parts of her, including her neck and chest, are super soft. Ember is very well adjusted to the home life. She gazes out the front window without pouncing or jumping. She waits patiently for her bowl of food. She doesn't counter surf or beg for food at the table. If she does quickly jump on the bed or sofa a simple "off" or "let's go" is all she needs to reset. At nighttime she sleeps on a dog bed on the bedroom floor. During her first few weeks in foster care sometimes she would pace or give a low-level whine. Engaging her with conversation or a toy or giving her a variety of soft blankets or dog beds and encouraging her to lay down was a big help. After working with her it's obvious she's had prior training. Ember will do best with an adopter that when asking her to sit, stay, or lay down can help her work on increasingly longer durations. She's a smart girl and earlier this week she learned "shake". Ember currently lives with a resident dog who lives in a different part of the house. So far we’ve kept interactions limited because while Ember seems super interested she is also very energized. While we have not yet seen any direct interactions with children it's expected that she'd do well with older children. Ember recently had a dental procedure and will need an adopter willing to keep up with her annual dental checkups. She's good in the crate, good in the car, and ok being left in a bedroom or den with the door closed for several minutes. Ember is comfortable being in the backyard and will give a bark when she's ready to come back in. She walks well on the leash and is an all-weather dog that likes walking in the rain and also in the snow. Some of Ember's favorite activities are looking out and watching the world around her, carrying around a toy, or destuffing a plush toy. Ember is in foster care in Maryland and is eager to meet you! DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.

Story
Meet Axl !! We took in this awesome puppy and his brother Slash from a crowded shelter. They are both awesome dogs that are super loyal and very smart. (Slash has a separate post) Axl is an approx 10 month old, male, Doberman mix. He has a docked tail and natural ears. Potential mixed with German Shepherd but we are unsure. He weighs 52 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. Axl is a shy boy at first and then he’s your best friend. If you know the Doberman breed you know they are extremely loyal and loving dogs. He is all about you. He can be pushy with wanting to be near you, jump on you or trying to crawl up in your lap. He really needs a firm consistent owner to show him how to channel all that into positive behaviors. He’s so smart and eager to please. He’s still a puppy that needs training. He will thrive with routine and both mental and physical exercise in his new home. He definitely needs an understanding owner as he takes awhile to adjust to new surroundings and his training will temporarily regress until he gets comfortable. He is crate trained but will wake you up around 6-7am howling to go out and potty and start the day. He’s great on car rides and seems to enjoy them. He’s decent on the leash but will pull at times. He loves toys and is very toy motivated. Axl is a bit of an oddball with his potty training. We think he’s a shy pooper lol. He will hold it and hold it and then poop in his crate until he feels safe to poop outside. He is fostered currently without a fenced yard and we think he would be far more successful with a fenced area to potty in. He was starting to figure it out more and more each day and then it snowed… He regressed a bit due to that. We can tell he understands the concept of potty training bc he holds it as long as possible inside. With a fenced yard and a little patience from you we expect him to figure it out quickly. He is great with other dogs and would do well with another dog in the home to show him the ropes. He is a bit hyper and pushy with his play so another dog to match or at least tolerate his energy would be best. He is also a bit of a humper with the ladies. His upcoming neuter will hopefully help with that. He is fostered with a cat and isn’t aggressive but doesn’t respect their boundaries. He annoys the cats and despite swats and hisses he hasn’t learned to stop. If you have cats you’ll need to be very proactive with training him regarding what is and isn’t appropriate around them. He’s not trying to hurt them but does not know how to properly interact with them. Axl isn’t fostered with kids currently. He’s a super sweet and loving boy so we suspect he would do great but maybe not with smaller kids. He’s big and still jumps up on people and doesn’t always realize his size. Temperament wise he would likely do well, training wise he is a bit too much for small kids currently. He has not shown any aggression over food, treats or toys toward other animals or humans. He LOVES toys, especially soft toys and tennis balls. He really loves anything you’ll do with him. Playtime, training, cuddles. He’s a loyal boy ready to please his new best friend. Axl has a high energy level. He needs both mental and physical exercise several times a day, every single day. He needs you to engage with him in games, training or activities that keep his mind and body active. Without this he can easily become frustrated with pent up energy and start showing negative behaviors. If you’re not serious about giving him the exercise he needs please pick a lower energy dog. Overall this guy has so much potential. He just needs the right owner to guide him and show him how to be his best self. He’s going to make someone the most loyal companion. ➡️Vet and home checks required. ➡️Fenced yard preferred Located in Hampton VA. (He will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius) 🛑These dogs are banned from almost all rentals (to include most vacation rentals). Do not apply to adopt if you have not called and verified with your landlord that you can own one. 🛑 ‼️Please message the Village Dog Resource Facebook Page or VillageDogResource@gmail.com directly with questions or to get an application. ‼️

(Axl has a separate post) Slash is an approx 10 month old, male, Doberman mix. He has a docked tail and natural ears. Potential mixed with German Shepherd but we are unsure. He weighs 52 pounds. He will be neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. Slash is just amazing. I feel in love with him right off the transport. He decided I was his person and was glued to my side. He was a bit shy with others but once he gets to know you he’s a playful puppy. You can tell this guy is going to be so loyal and intelligent. If you know the Doberman breed you know they are extremely loyal and loving dogs. He’s still a puppy but he’s doing really well with most of his training. He will thrive with routine and both mental and physical exercise in his new home. He needs a firm consistent owner to channel his intelligence and energy into positive behaviors. Slash is crate trained and doing very well with it. He’s great on car rides and seems to enjoy them. When it comes to walks, he generally behaves well. He might get a little too excited and jump on you but stopping, giving a firm “no,” and making him sit to calm down has worked really well. He’s done amazing with potty training with a fenced yard. He does not like to go potty on a leash and we suspect he would have regressed potty training like his brother if his family doesn’t have a fenced yard. He does need time to adjust to changes in routine. His foster parents recently went back to work and he was crated a lot longer than normal the last two days He peed in his crate each day. We are sure he will learn and adjust. Slash is great with other dogs and would do well with another dog in the home to show him the ropes. He is a bit hyper and pushy with his play so another dog to match (or at least tolerate) his energy would be best. He is also a bit of a humper. His upcoming neuter will hopefully help with that. He is not fostered with a cat so we aren’t sure how he would do but likely he would be to much for them. You can read his brothers post and get an idea of how he might behave. We don’t think he will be aggressive he’s just big, hyper at times and not fully trained. Slash isn’t fostered with kids currently. He patiently waits for his treats, graciously taking them among the other dogs without snatching. He allows us to take bones and toys away without a fuss. So far he hasn’t destroyed anything but we pick up things he shouldn’t have and monitor him when he’s out. Slash hasn’t been a very vocal guy at all. Only when he’s outside playing. He is very agile and athletic. He can easily jump baby gates and short fences. He really loves anything you’ll do with him. Playtime, training, cuddles. He’s a loyal boy ready to please his new best friend. He does have a high energy level. He needs both mental and physical exercise several times a day, every single day.
