Story
Guinness is the sweetest dog. He’s very gentle and loving, but he requires a ton of attention. Attention that unfortunately we can’t give him at our current stage of life. Without attention he becomes anxious and pees inside. He will throw other fits out of anxiety such as moving his food bowl all around the house, digging the floor, peeing and pooping around the house. With a ton of attention, these behaviors are less. We got Guinness from a pet store when he was six months old and have been his only owners. He will be 13 at the end of September. He is still very healthy, but does seem to have some hearing loss. We don’t really want to re-home him, but we know it’s not fair to him to keep him with us since he’s not getting the attention he needs and deserves. He needs a home where he is preferably the only pet and can be given a lot of attention.

Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Elizabeth and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 1 y.o. and came to my foster home here in Cedar Falls, IA, from a place that wasn’t very nice. But I’m learning to love life in a home with a family! I might be a shy and skittish at first – I get spooked by loud noises or sudden movements - but once I know you, I love to soak up attention and affection. Some of my favorite things are playing with toys that crinkle or bounce or squeak! But I’ll also chase my own tail. I love to explore. I’m curious about everything and will stretch my body forward to inspect something new. I get the zoomies and race around the fenced yard. Foster mom calls me a goofball and a “fake Shiba” because I beg for attention. I guess Shibas are supposed to be reserved? Whatever. There are cats here and I chase them if they get too close. There are other dogs here too and I like them. Since I'm still a puppy, I can be too high-energy and overwhelm the laid-back dogs. I also worry that I need to protect my food and treats and my bed from the other dogs. Foster mom says it’s called “resource guarding” and we're working on it, but my forever home should be prepared to help me adapt to other resident dogs. I’m learning to walk on a leash, but a securely fenced yard will be important until I master it. I’ll do best in an adult-only home or with older kids (I am too much for little ones). My forever family should commit to continuing my training, so I grow into a well-mannered adult (pro-tip: I looooove treats, and they help me learn!) I’d do best in a home where I’m not left alone for long periods. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. The vet says that my kneecaps are a bit loose, but they don’t bother me. It’s called luxating patella (low grade 1 or 2), which should be monitored over time. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a fun-loving, active, affectionate girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to learn more and to apply to become an approved adopter with SIRA. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment to make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom, so we can meet!
