Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
Have you ever wanted a canine best friend that will follow you to the ends of the earth and back? Or, at least won't leave you to tackle the trek to the bathroom alone? If so, then look no further than Grace.  Our goofy girl Gracie loves to LOVE. She is a typical pittie who is motivated by food and affection. She is still young and active but she is happy to do whatever her human wants to do. She is good at supervising housework and yard work as well as holding down the couch during movie nights.  Grace came to us from Oklahoma where she was at risk of euthanasia. Her foster happily stepped in to save this sweet girl. She gives excellent kisses and is eager to learn. Grace is about 2 years old and currently 50 pounds, but she does need to gain some weight. She is potty trained, kennel trained, up to date on all shots, microchipped and spayed. She gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home. Due to her prey drive, we do not recommend a home with cats. Her adoption fee is $250. If you would like to meet this beautiful girl please fill out an application at https://form.jotform.com/73194734170154

Story
Grant is a very good boy and is ready to find his furever home! He is a 2 year old shepherd mix weighing in around 55 pounds. Crate and potty training are going well, and, at his last foster, he used a doggy door! He loves kids and other dogs not sure about cats. Car rides and walks are so much fun for him. He loves toys and playing. When it’s nice out, he loves relaxing on the deck. Training is going well, and he is working on not jumping to greet people!! When he was in Oklahoma, he had 3 surgeries and 4 months of crate rest to try and fix a loosy goosey kneecap (Luxating Patella) After his last surgery, the vet said it’s as good as it will get. But don’t you worry… he doesn’t let it stop him and he’s in no pain! Grant is fully up to date on all vaccines, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $250. Story
Peter is a typical energetic little pup that will need training classes. He is a 6 month old border collie lab mix. He's a sweet boy and very excited about life. He sits very nicely when there is food involved and we are working on the excited biting and jumping. He gets along well with the resident pup and is very curious and a little confused by the resident cat. He would do great with an active owner who can help release his energy in a productive way. Peter is up to date on all shots and microchipped. Peter will be neutered prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $250. If you’re interested in meeting Peter, please fill out an app here: https://form.jotform.com/73194734170154

Story
Not only is this girl absolutely stunning, but she's got a good amount of training under her belt as well! She knows so many cool things! Talk about a smart cookie! She takes treats gently, is kennel trained, house trained, has very good leash manners, knows sit, stay, wait, lay down, come, give paw and eyes on me. She loves to play in the yard, and don't even get her started about how much fun running is! She is a lively girl who loves people. She's confident, fun and loves a good game. She has the potential to do well with dogs her size or larger, a meet and greet would be required. Flora is fantastic on a leash and would be suitable for families with an active lifestyle - preferably someone who enjoys getting outside for some fun, walks or running, playing, or offering providing enrichment activities and/or exploring new places. Flora is in a foster home, to schedule a meet and greet, please contact msteele@hssc.us or call the shelter.
