Story
To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. COURTESY POST---This handsome boy is NOT with our rescue, he is with his family right now and we are helping them to find a wonderful home for Cooper. You can look at his pictures and see that Cooper is a very much loved family member. He has had a wonderful life with his people, and his other dog pal. And he really is an awesome guy, full of life and exuberance. But, that occasional over the top personality is a little too much for a family that just welcomed a newborn. So, no judgement there, they are just trying to make the best decisions for their baby as well as Cooper. Cooper is a 5 year old Pitbull mix. The family had initially adopted him a few years ago from a rescue, he had been left tied to a tree at some point in his life and was also heartworm positive. He has been treated for the heartworms and he is a healthy, robust and fully vetted boy. Cooper has lived with his other dog buddy and does well. Occasionally they play a little too rough(of course!) when they get a bit excited. He also lives with a cat that he wants to play with, however, the cat is not that interested in playing with Cooper, lol. Cooper's family says that he can be a little bit of an energy overload at times, he gets so exited meeting new people and dogs, gets excited about being outside and will jump on people and even has a big waggy tail that can hurt a little bit on the receiving end, lol. He is on some calming meds at this point, but perhaps could wean off of them in a small child free and also an active home to burn off some of that energy. Cooper's family has been working with a trainer and he is doing well. HE knows, sit, lay, shake and is doing well with place training on a mat, as well as a slip lead for a calming control device. When Cooper is not enjoying all the excitement of his life he is also a very laid back guy. If you are relaxing, well, he is right there with you. Cooper is a professional snuggler and loves to be by your side, keeping your feet warm in bed, or cozied up for some Netflix! Cooper will most likely do better in a rural situation where he does not have as many distractions such as other dogs, people cars and such to get him overly excited. Cooper is an extra special guy that deserves all the best. His family is hoping to find an active, loving home, older kids would be best. He lives with another male dog now, but really does well with older female dogs. If you have an awesome home for an awesome dog, please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. Those emails will get the quickest response, we do the best we can, but if we have to follow up with an email asking you about yourself and waiting for a response, well, we have already moved on to the next email that has provided the details. We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! :) He's BAAAAAACK!!! Cello was adopted by a loving couple, and they adored him. He was doing so well and acclimating to their home for the most part. But....he just could not get past city living, he was right in the midst of all Chicago has to offer. Some dogs would thrive on all the activities and dog friendly environment, but, for a guy like Cello, country life is for me!! Cello has the Pug look as well, but is a little taller. He looks like a Pug/Shepard mix, also called a Shug. If you google this mix you will see a couple dogs that look just like Cello. It is possible to have different fathers for the same littler of pups, so that could explain their differences. How fun to have such a unique little dog, and what a potentially odd combination!! Cello had come in with his brother, Banjo. He is happily in a home with his new family(not big city living either, but not country). He is doing well. Cello is fine with the noises in our area, cars, motorcycles, farm equipment and such, but perhaps he was just too overstimulated in Chicago. He loves other dogs, enjoys playing in the yard, is a happy and loving guy. Cello is pretty laid back, housebroken, listens well and is not much of a barker. He would be a great chill type companion for someone that might like a hiking partner, has other dogs that need a pal, or just a best buddy. He would do well with an experienced dog owner, and probably would do better in a home without small children. He is just 4 years old and about 30 pounds. (they put on a little weight here, but are working on shedding a couple pounds!)Cello's adoption fee is $250, now $150!! Cello has waited long enough for his very own family, we just want him to have a loving home. He will go home with tons of supplies to help him settle into their new home! We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! :) Selma and Patty are a couple of sweet sisters. Unlike 'The Simpson's', Aunt Patty and Selma, these two really do not have any annoying habits, lol. They actually like everyone, don't smoke, and probably have never watched an episode of MacGyver. Selma and Patty are actually very pleasant to be around and have been lovely guests in our foster home! The girls, we are told, had been living with a family that found them for a month. The family said they lived with kids, dogs and even cats. We can't verify that, but they are very friendly and social. We would say that they would be fine around older kids. They are guessed to be Lab/Aussie mixes. Patty is the heavier of the two, she is 60 pounds, more of a short stocky build. She has the nub tail of an aussie, and gorgeous brown eyes. Of the two, Patty is a little more laid back, more into relaxing and belly rubs. Just look at Patty and she will roll over for a good belly rub!! Selma has the most beautiful eyes, ones is crystal blue, the other one is brown, with just a smidge of blue. Selma is the silly sister, likes to play and always up for some activity. She is about 50 pounds. They both love them some snuggles as well, very loving girls!! They both get along fine with the other dogs, but we have had to correct them a couple times with some bossiness. Nothing serious, and they were very easily corrected. They would be fine adopted together, but it is really not necessary. They are not incredibly bonded, actually are quite independent of each other. Both girls are very well mannered and totally housebroken. They do not need to be crated, they are fine in the house, beyond the chewing stage and very calm. The vet guessed them between 2-5 years old, so 3ish?? If you would like to adopt them both. the adoption fee will be $400, otherwise individually their adoption fee will be $250. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.

We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! : Funny Eloise, she has quite the personality and we have come to appreciate her silliness!! She wasn't quite at the top of her game when we first met her a number of weeks ago. We had gone to a nearby animal control to pick up a couple of other dogs and were encouraged to meet this dog that was NOT doing well at the shelter. So, off we went into the kennel area. There she was, cowering, hunched and trembling in the back of her space. As kind and patient as the the staff was, the noisy and busy environment was too much for Eloise. She looked incredibly pathetic, so of course we took her home. She sang the song of her people to us very loudly all the way home, lol. I wouldn't say she had a great singing voice, and I am happy to say, that is the last I have heard of it since she has joined us, lol. Eloise had been picked up as a stray and was not claimed by anyone, sadly. She was in very bad shape. He coat was dirty and overgrown, she had matted/missing patches of her coat, and her eyes were goopy and infected. She has since been groomed and bathed and her she has been medicated for her eye and coat issues. They seem to be resolving very well, and she is on the tail end of her medication. It took a day or two for this vibrant personality to bloom, and perhaps it is not yet in full bloom, but we shall say she is one unique little flower! Eloise is fine with the other dogs, but she also is quite independent and seems to pefer her people pals more. She will run, explore and charge back to check on us. She has a very special greeting, not quite a secret hand shake, but really close. She will run up to me, and quickly pitter patter her paws on my belly. It is kind of like she is patting down a mound of bread dough. Ok, it may look like bread dough to some, but I assure you it is not, lol. We had a time getting pictures of Eloise. She is on the go when she is outside!! The long haired pic is her shelter intake, kind of her mug shot. She is truly a gorgeous girl and will be more so when her coat comes back and she puts on a few pounds. For now she is doing great, loves her food and snacks! Eloise is looking for a patient family that understands it is a healing journey for a dog that has been allowed to get into such poor condition, but she is on her way!! She also will enjoy and active family, she is quite athletic and energetic when outdoors. She walks like a dream on a leash and will be a great companion for someone that enjoys their walks/hikes as well. Eloise is a thin 23 pounds now, is estimated to be about 5-6 years old. She will go home with plenty of supplies to help her settle into her new home. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com. Her adoption fee is $375.

We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! : His real name is Shiitake, you know, like the mushroom. We did not name him, he was given that moniker at the animal control that took him in. But, it is a cutesy name for a very cute boy, he is our little mushroom! The fungus amongus. We just call him "Taki" for short. (we pronounce it Tocky). Taki is the latest of many, many dogs that we have taken in that have been picked up as strays. Pretty sad, and how scary for those dogs to be on their own after having a family, and surely someone that loved them. Taki seems that he must have had a person or family that cared. He is sweet, playful, housebroken and listens very well. He was found by a family that took him in and thought they would just keep him, Why not, he is a gorgeous boy, very young and lovable. But, he was left alone with a 1 year old, who knows what happened(or why a 1 year old child was left alone with a strange dog??). But, apparently the child was nipped. Nothing serious, but that was the end of that, probably a good thing tho! After his stint at animal control, Taki came to us. He was a little nervous at first but has totally settled into our home, gets along great with the other dogs and is an old pro at sharing his bed, toys, and treats. He is quite the love bug and enjoys kisses and snuggling, and adores being outside any chance he can. We have a little doggy pool and he is the only one that wanted to go lay in it, bless his heart!! I was waiting for someone to really enjoy that thing. Taki is just 30 pounds, he is more legs than he is anything. We are guessing on his breed(s). He has the look of a Norwegian Elkhound, but not the stockiness. He is a mix of some sort, Shepard(maybe basenji?), what a unique guy. He will do well in a dog savvy home, a home without small children, also an active home with perhaps another dog. He will not do well being left alone for long hours, he is very young(perhaps under a year). Taki will be a great hiking buddy, or camping--he is just the right size to pack up and go and has the athleticism to enjoy a busy outing. He likes water as well, maybe a good kayaking buddy?? His adoption fee is $275. He will go home with plenty of supplies to help him settle into his new home. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com.
