Story
Hi, I'm Jack! I'm an 12 year old (mostly) Lab, looking to become part of a family and provide them with lots of love and companionship. My foster says I have a great personality and easy-going nature. I'm hoping to find a family that will provide a safe fenced yard for me to run around in, but I also enjoy long walks and do well on a leash. My foster will tell you how quiet I am, and while I don't like vacuum cleaners or the sound of lawn mowers, I'm not scared during thunderstorms or 4th of July fireworks. I do have to see my 'dog'tor a lot, but I am a really good patient! She calls me a lemon, but I just don’t see the resemblance to the yellow fruit. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to a lot of stuff, so I have to get allergy meds and shots, and I eat a special dog food. No matter how cute I make myself look, I do not get any treats, because my foster and 'dog'tor say they will make me itchy. I'm a really good boy for getting my paws wiped when I come inside, because the grass can make my feet itchy when my allergies are bad. Sometimes my ears get really uncomfortable and I have to get them checked, cleaned and medicated. I have had some painful infections in the past, so my ears can be sensitive. I'm housebroken and good about signaling when I need to go outside, but it would be great to have my own doggie door so I can go outside on my own. I’m embarrassed to say that I do have accidents on occasion; my old bladder can’t always hold it until I can get outside, so hard floors and puppy pads are my friends. I know and follow a few commands and I get along fine with kids, cats and kittens, but I'm not much for getting along with other dogs. Most important, I'm calm and loving and I very much like to snuggle! Even though I need a bit of extra help, I have more than enough love to give to make upfor it. My foster or 'dog'tor can tell you more about what I need to support me in my golden years. I'm one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. I look forward to meeting you and showing you how much love and companionship I have to offer! Shadow is the name. Pleased to meet you! I'm working on this whole civilized world thing. I roamed the countryside for around 6 months before some kind people managed to catch me. I knew all that free food had to be a trap! Turns out, getting caught hasn't been all bad. I live in a house now with 2 meals every day! Did you know that there were these things called belly rubs? I like to get them while lounging in my foster human's lap. I even like sitting in a recliner when I'm the only one in it. I'm getting pretty good at making new friends, but I need it to go a little slower with other male dogs. I learned house training fast - my new dog friends really helped with learning the housedog lifestyle. I still need to work on not being so nervous when a leash comes out. Well, that's enough about me for now. Maybe someday we can meet. *Courtesy Post Sammie is the sweetest, snuggliest dog and she loves everyone she meets of all ages! Squeaky balls and belly rubs are her favorite. She knows all of her basics: sit, down, stay, leave it, shake, off, out, wait, and kennel. Last summer we took her kayaking and she did really well, so could probably be reintroduced to lake life. Things she still needs help with: counter-surfing and learning to sit and wait for pets when people come in the house - she gets excited and wants to jump, but is learning. While she enjoys playing with other dogs, she has guarding issues and becomes possessive. She also can’t live with cats unsupervised, so a non-negotiable in rehoming her is that she will be the only pet in the household. This is what we know will give Sammie her best life possible. On her own, Sammie would be a dream dog. Loyal and protective yet sweet as can be. Young and fun but not puppy-crazy. Perfectly healthy and eager to steal hearts. *Courtesy posting is a service RCHS provides to our community members who need to rehome an animal. This animal is not with RCHS and all information is provided by the animal's current guardian. Story
Hi there, my name is Nanette Marie, but you can call me Marie! I’m a 9 yr old, 18 lb. spayed Rat Terrier, but don’t let my age fool you, I’m full of life and love to play fetch with my toys. My foster mom says I’m a very well behaved little girl and know sit, stay, no, toy, and a few others. While I would love to sleep in bed with you, and will cover myself up if you provide me with a little light blanket, I can be persuaded to sleep in a crate. In fact, if you leave the crate door open, I will often go inside during the day to nap on my bed. Foster mom introduced me to some full grown (inside) cats and dogs and I did quite well. I didn’t bark or chase them, but it would take a few days or so to get fully acquainted with them. Being a Rat Terrier, I’m not sure how I would be with little pets such as gerbils etc., and I certainly would go after a wild rabbit out in the yard. Heck, I even tried to go after a wild turkey that strutted through mom’s front yard - that was fun! I like to sit in my foster mom’s lap and stare into her eyes, but I don’t try to lick her face, even when she gives me head kisses. I’ve never had an accident in the house nor have I torn anything up, even when she leaves me to go to town to shop once a week for 3 to 5 hours; she just makes sure to let me go potty before she leaves. I do have a very special need to keep me healthy and safe. I'm a type 1 diabetic and must have insulin twice a day. I require glucose testing (like a human diabetic), measured food and then an insulin shot every 12 hours. And please, no table scraps! While I don’t require a prescription or expensive food, I do have to have one that is low in fat and weighed out so that I get the exact amount at each meal. Foster mom has been working with me for several months to help teach me how to behave when she tests me, feeds me and then gives me my shot. I do quite well, even if I say so myself! She even gives me a green bean as a treat for being such a good girl. Although, it can take a little bit for someone to learn how to treat and learn my diabetes routine, once you get the hang of it, it only takes about 5 minutes twice a day to accomplish. Otherwise, I’m pretty much like any other furbaby. My foster mom can tell you all about it and even direct you to a great group of diabetic moms and dads online that can help you keep me safe and healthy. She tells me that most dogs can live a normal lifespan if properly treated. She can tell you all about it. Cash is a vocal, energetic guy who has sensitive skin. He will have a medical waiver for his allergies, and will need special shampoo baths and a family that will use mild detergent on his blankets. However, he is a cute boy waiting for his walking and party buddy! He is very food motivated and could use someone patient to help him with some training!

Story
Hi there! My name is Jason. I may look tough on the outside with my sleek, black and tan coat and my serious German Shepherd face, but as you can see from my profile, I'm just a big softie. I absolutely love playing fetch, cuddles, and hanging out with my favorite humans. Sometimes I like to get up in my person's face and give them kisses! One thing you should know about me, I want ALL your love and attention, so if you have other animals in the home, I'm probably not your guy. So, if you're looking for a loyal companion who's always up for a game of fetch and will shower you with love and affection, then look no further!
