Story
Meet the charming duo, Baby Bow and Mittens Bow. These adult sisters are a bonded pair, sharing a love that's as sweet as their personalities.  Baby is very dainty, gentle, and soft spoken. Her eyes are vibrant green and stand out beautifully against her mostly white fur.  She uses her eyes to tell you how she feels, asks nicely for treats, and enjoys having her wet food each day.    She is a bit timid at first but will sit on your lap once she gets to know you.  She is very smart, likes to explore indoors, and enjoys the simple things in life, like watching the birds from a window.  Baby would be best in a calm household where she can be handled gently and feel safe and comfortable.  Mittens is always happy and ready to play.  She loves kicking around her favorite mouse with a pink tail or fluffy pink ball.  Mittens has beautiful long whiskers and long gray fur with white 'mittens' on her paws.  Getting brushed is always a favorite past time for Mittens and she may even give you little kisses to show her appreciation.  When she's not intently bird watching, or playing, she'll gladly accept belly rubs!  Bonded pair adoption fee: $300, includes all shots, sterilized, dewormed, deflea, microchip     If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. Story
Misty Hope is a quiet beauty with a gentle soul. This pretty longhaired kitty spent years in foster care with one of our wonderful rescue partners, and while she’s always welcomed soft pets and gentle handling, she tends to take her time warming up in new spaces. In her most recent foster home, Misty showed just how much she appreciates a peaceful environment, sharing space comfortably with other easygoing cats and seeking out cozy spots to relax. As her foster described, `She likes her quiet places in a crate but comes to her caregivers for attention.` Misty enjoys the simple pleasures—perching by a window, lounging on a cat tree shelf, and curling up in a quiet nook. She’s looking for a patient adopter who will give her the time and love she needs to fully settle in. If you’re looking for a sweet, serene companion, Misty Hope might be the perfect match! If you’d like to meet our available pets, please check the “shelter information” box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours! Both of our locations are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12-5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12-7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information on our adoption process, including requirements and fees, visit: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter/adopt

Story
Hi! My name is Lous, I am a huge love bug with an adorable little chirp! I enjoy the company of people and other animals. I love to be petted, brushed, and play with string, wand, and catnip toys. I am a great companion, if you are retired or work from home, I will be there to keep your lap warm all day. If you have a busy schedule, I am perfectly content to sit in a sunny window and watch the world go by and nap while waiting for you to come home and tell me about your day. I will keep you company following you around and sit beside you when it's time to rest. Check out this video for how cute it is! (copy-paste this link into a new window) - Lous is so cute!. The Fancy Cats people say my belly is a bit too round and I sort of waddle when I walk, which makes me even more endearing. If you are looking for an affectionate bestie, I'm your guy!  If you would like to see more videos of me and some of my friends (some have been adopted), check out my mom's foster page https://www.instagram.com/shannysfosters/   Adoption fee : $200 Included in adoption: all shots, sterilized, dewormed, deflea, microchip       If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have. House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hi! My name is Calypso and I am waiting for my “forever” home. My owners had to surrender me because they were moving and couldn’t take me with them. I had lived with them since I was just a kitten, so don’t understand why they left me behind, from the only home I had ever known. I am very afraid of new things/places/people, so may growl, hiss and scratch until I get to know and trust you. My foster mom tried very hard to get to know me for almost a month before I finally trusted her enough to come out from my covered bed (my “safe space”) and let her pet me and love me. Multiple times throughout the day, she sat with me and patiently talked to me while I either ignored her or growled and hissed at her from inside the covered bed and scratched her hand when she tried to pet me anyway, but she persisted, and it paid off. Now, I love to come out and be petted/rubbed! She tells me how much she loves me and I purr my love back. When I have had enough, I head back inside my bed for some “me time.” You “cat-savvy” people know what I mean! So far, I haven’t let my foster mom pick me up and I haven’t climbed up in her lap, but I like to lay next to her to be petted. I don’t think I’m actually shy, but I am reserved, and take time to warm up to new situations. When she needs to move me so she can clean my room, she carries me to the other room in the covered bed and I am fine with that – I don’t even try to jump out. I have a Comfort Zone diffuser where I hang out and “stress and anxiety” drops in my water since I have had a tough time adjusting to this new life, but I hope I won’t need it once I am settled in my “forever” home. I’m a big girl, and to be perfectly honest, I admit I am a bit on the chunky side, even though I don’t think I eat too much. I only like dry food served in a shallow bowl or on a plate – I’ve been eating Purina One Tender Selects Blend (Salmon) since coming to Fancy Cats and Dogs Rescue and I like that because it has real salmon! My foster mom has tried several kinds of canned food to see if I would eat it, but I am not at all interested. I don’t even like Temptations treats much, but do enjoy catnip! I drink my water well and use the litter box like a good girl. I also like to use my scratching post, but I don’t play with toys, but maybe I just need more time. My foster mom has 3 young cats and, while they are very interested in getting to know me, I am not too interested in getting to know them, so growl at them to keep them from getting too close to me, which they respect. I have always been the only cat and prefer to keep it that way. Although I still spend a lot of time snoozing in my covered bed (which I love because it makes me feel safe), I come out when my foster mom calls my name - I wiggle out of the bed and come over for pets. Now that I trust her, I especially love to have my head and chin petted/scratched, purring all the while, and getting whole body rub-downs, except don’t much like having my feet touched. Maybe not immediately, but once I get to know you, you can even rub my belly! Because of the other cats at my foster house, I choose to stay in the bathroom instead of exploring the rest of the house. However, once I get settled into my new home - where I am the queen of my domain - I know that I will enjoy exploring, but please be patient with me. It has been a tough few months for me and it will likely take a bit of time for me to come around, but it will be worth it because I have lots of love to give and will be a perfect addition to your family. Adoption fee: $100, includes all shots, sterilized, dewormed, deflea, microchip   If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have.
