Story
Calvin is a shy young guy who came to the shelter as a stray and has been working hard to build confidence with the help of his volunteer friends. He’s made great progress, but there’s no substitute for a real home, and Calvin would love to continue his journey with a supportive family of his own. Here’s what some of his volunteer friends have said:“Calvin has made such progress. He doesn’t mind getting leashed any more, knowing that there’s going to be a fun walk or time in the play yard with his current kennel mate. Overall, he’s a good walker. I’ve taken him to the dog of the day yard several times now, and he’s getting more confident there, too. He is treat motivated and I was able to teach him “sit” yesterday.”“Calvin has gained so much confidence. I took Calvin for a walk around the lake, and he is a very good walker, loose leash all the way and did a little exploring.”“I walked Calvin for the first time. He untucked his tail and noticeably relaxed as we got near the lake. I sat down on the grass to take some notes and he sat right next to me and then climbed into my lap when he heard loud music from a car. He accepted pets readily and stayed close to me. We started walking again and he relaxed once we were away from the people and noise. We passed several dogs and he noticed them but didn`t react at all. Calvin is shy but it seems like he`s gotten much more confident and he`s becoming a really nice little companion.”Calvin also recently made some new friends during a public dog walking event:“Calvin was such a good boy! We walked around the pond by PACC. He walked nicely on the leash without pulling! He loved walking side by side with his kennel mate.”Calvin shares his kennel politely and has been independent and easygoing when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He would likely benefit from having a calm, confident doggy pal to help show him the ropes in his future home. Please ask to meet Calvin today!!

Story
Athena is an 8 month old Dutch Shepherd mix with a lot of energy! She was found on my brother’s property and has been under my care for the last month. While she is very anxious and apprehensive of new people, once you earn her trust, she will absolutely be your best friend! As a former trainer, I have been working with her on basic obedience. She is extremely responsive to pinch training although she can be a little stubborn at times. As I’ve gotten to know her better, I realized that she needs a job! Anyone looking for a working dog or someone high energy to take her on adventures would be an excellent match for her. She will need someone patient and understanding who is willing to take the time to earn her love but once she’s there, she has been to sweetest girl on the planet!
