Story
Age: 4 years oldWeight: 38kg / 83.8lbA little bit about Stevie :- Limited history with children; children should be teens and up- Unknown history with cats and other small animals; all introductions should be done slowly over a period of time- Some history of living with dog; selectively dog reactive. Potential for dog in home pending successful Dog-to-Dog introductionsStevie is a friendly, cuddly, and house-trained sweetheart who loves her walks just as much as she enjoys relaxing on the couch afterward. Her foster family tells us she did well with the adults and children she met in foster care and may thrive in a home with older children. While Stevie has successfully lived with another dog before, she has a history of being selectively dog reactive and may do best as the only dog in her new home. On walks, she is appropriate when passing other dogs but prefers not to make canine friends. Stevie has shown some prey drive on walks, so patience and care would be needed if introducing her to a home with cats or small animals.Currently, Stevie is carrying some extra weight. In order for her to live a long, healthy, and happy life, adopters should work on a gradual weight loss plan with their vet. This wonderful former mama has charmed everyone she’s met, and we’re confident she’ll win your heart too!

Killara is available through our `Adopt From a Foster Home` program. Please email adopt@calgaryhumane.ca if you are interested in scheduling a meeting. Please do not make an appointment through our online booking calendar, as Killara is not available to meet on site.Age: 2 years oldWeight: 30.4kg / 67lbA little bit about Killara:- Unknown history living with children. Reported to interact with children without noted concern. - Potential for home with cats. Reported to live previously with two cats.- Only dog in home due to dog reactivity. Potential for dog friends in future.Say hello to Killara, a clever German Shepherd mix who is as smart as she is sweet. This lovely girl already knows a long list of commands, including “sit,” “stay,” “lay down,” “shake a paw,” “go to your crate,” “no,” “off,” “leave it,” and even “where’s your toy?” She’s crate-trained and has lived with cats before, so she may do well with dog-savvy feline friends after careful introductions.Killara does struggle with leash reactivity, which means she gets overstimulated or frustrated when she sees other dogs while she is on a leash. This can cause barking or pulling, but with positive reinforcement and guidance from our staff, adopters can help her manage this behavior. The shelter environment has been overwhelming for her, but her affectionate nature shines through. Killara is ready to find a loving home where she can relax, continue learning, and share her big heart. Could she be your next best friend?

Age: 7 years oldWeight: 31.5kg / 69.5lbA little bit about Ella :- Unknown history with children; all interactions should be carefully supervised by an adult- Limited history with cats, may do well after slow, gradual introductions. Has shown some prey drive towards small animals- Unknown history with dogs; some potential reactivity towards other dogs. Potential for select dog in home pending successful introductionMeet Ella, a sweet and gentle senior Shepherd mix with a big heart and an even bigger love for life. Ella enjoys the simple pleasures—leisurely walks, relaxing on a sunny deck or courtyard, and spending time with her favorite people. This lovely lady is a bit on the chonky side and would benefit from a gradual, vet-guided weight loss plan to help her feel her best. Ella has previously lived with cats and may do well with feline friends in her future home, provided introductions are done slowly and carefully.Ella does have some special needs—she struggles with stress and anxiety, which can lead to obsessive licking and the development of hot spots. She’s currently on anti-anxiety medication to help manage her stress and prevent further issues, as well as medication to care for her skin. This will likely require lifelong management with her vet, but Ella takes it all in stride with her sweet and resilient spirit.Despite her challenges, Ella is a wonderful companion who deserves a home where she can feel safe and loved. If you’re looking for a loyal friend and are willing to help her on her journey to better health, Ella just might be your perfect match.

Story
Age: 2 yearsWeight: 30.8 kg / 67.9 lbsMeet McGuire, an energetic and vibrant German Shepherd with a heart full of love, though he’s been through a lot. This handsome boy started his journey as a stray, and now he’s looking for a fresh start in a new home. McGuire has been feeling stressed in the shelter environment, which is understandable given his active nature and need for attention and exercise. He’s full of energy and would thrive in a home where he can run, play, and get the mental stimulation he craves. McGuire is ready to put his past behind him and become a loyal, loving companion. If you have an active lifestyle and the time to provide the care and training he needs, McGuire could be the perfect addition to your family.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
An energetic girl! She has a unique feature as she has wagged her tail so much called `happy tail`. She is looking for an adult only home with an active structured lifestyle. She will need daily leash walks and a fenced backyard. She is very enthusiastic about her food so we would recommend an interactive bowl for her to have her food from as well as working with a food program in the home including hand feeding and trading-up. A basic manners class or private training class is a requirement with her adoption to help set her up for success. Noelle is approaching close to 3.5 months with us and we just cant understand why. She is a bundle of positivity and excitement and will chase all those winter blues away.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
This independant boy will be best matched with an adult only home or a home with older teenage children (depending on the family). We would highly recommend him to be an acreage or farm dog but feel that he would also do well in the city. He will need daily leash walks until he learns a recall and is bonded to his new family in which then he could be a candidate for off-leash parks. We would highly recommend a basic manners class or private training depending on the experience of his adoption family. He is a sociable boy but doens`t like to be fussed over. Loves to hang out with his people and stay close to them for petting and companionship.
