You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. All of the animals posted on our site have been temperament tested. While not all are in the immediate area, once we have processed and approved your application, we will move the dog to our adoptive area for you to meet, greet and hopefully adopt. Sometimes we will have more than one application on a dog. That does not mean it automatically goes to another family but you should be aware of the fact that until you are approved and set up for the meet/greet.. the dog could get adopted by another applicant.***If you would be interested in Princejoining your home and life for the rest of his, please copy/paste the following link into your browser for an application. HOWEVER - if you are not certain you are ready for a dog in your life, and all the commitment that involves, and all family members are not on board, please do not proceed to this step.www.tinyurl.com/adopt-shprPrince is the definition of majesty. This beautiful boy was neglected and not given anywhere near the type of life he deserves. When he arrived here he was skin and bones, and his coat was dry and brittle with fly bites all over his ears. But now, his whole attitude has changed since we've been feeding him well - three times a day. He still has a little weight to be gained, but he looks so, so much healthier.Prince, as expected, loves treats and will sit nicely for them. He's smart and very trainable. He would make a great best friend and love exploring everything life has to offer with his person. Prince gets along well with other dogs, and loves people. So, if you're ready for a little royalty in your family, Prince is your boy.He is up to date on his vaccines, dewormings and preventatives, is neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $250.   www.tinyurl.com/adopt-shprMelissa Unverferth  email: melissau.safehaven@gmail.com Phone: 703-725-2067Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 14, 2024, 2:58 pm

Story
I got her from a breeder in December 2015. She’s almost 9 years old. I have a young daughter who needs most of my attention so I’m looking for someone who has the time to give her the attention she needs and wants. My daughter and Bella get along great for the most part. Bella tries to heard my daughter, which I know she’s only doing her job to protect my daughter.

Story
Toby here! Can you hear me? I can hear you with my large radar ears. Some say they are my cutest quality but there is so much more to me than just my ears, read on to see if we are a match! Toby is a 4 year old 52 lb shepherd mix. He is a smart boy who has had professional training so has all of his basic commands down pat. Toby has shown some guarding behaviors in the past so an owner who can be his pack leader is needed. Toby will begin training for these behaviors with Gypsy K9. He has lived with children though and gets along with all humans big and small. He has been living as an only dog in his home, but has acclimated well with dogs in foster home! Cats are unknown at this time. Toby is house and crate trained, but he is such a good boy he can be trusted outside of the crate when home alone. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines and preventatives and a heartworm survivor! Toby will be waiting in Harrisburg, PA. Get your application in and once approved you can meet this sweet boy and fall in love. New Oxford PA 17350; LIC # 9736 We are PA Caring for K-9's, an all-breed dog rescue that is solely run by volunteers. Most of our dogs are rescued from high kill shelters in the South. If the dog is posted, they are still available! Once arriving, these dogs enter foster homes, as we do not have a shelter. We cannot adopt out dogs to a home with dogs that are not fixed or up to date on shots. If interested in adopting, please submit an application online at www.pack9rescue.org. Our adoption fee for altered dogs is $350 and goes directly to saving the lives of more dogs.  Our adoption fee for unaltered puppies will be $400 which includes a refundable $50 deposit upon receipt of spay/neuter certificate. Learn more about adopting from us or volunteering for us at www.pack9rescue.org or check us out on Facebook for more information and a complete list of dogs available for adoption.  https://www.facebook.com/PaCaringForK9s/ See upcoming events below where PA Caring for K9’s will be with some of our adoptable dogs! Saturday, August 24, 2024 10am-1pm Ashcombe Farm and Greenhouse (906 W Grantham Rd, Mechanicsburg, PA) Please check our Facebook page closer to each event as we will update daily with dogs who will be attending. All are invited to meet our dogs, but only pre-approved adopters with all household humans and dogs present will be able to adopt at the event.   DESCRIPTION:  Apollo's owner loved him greatly but struggled to keep him safe and in the household. As a result, Apollo spent too much time wandering about the neighborhood and checking in with the neighbors.  Unfortunately, this resulted in too many trips to animal control. Due to his frequent visits, Animal Control decided that Apollo would be safer if he moved forward with a new family.  Apollo is a big, sweet guy. Although it is clear that he has not had a lot of structure prior to his arrival, he is a quick learner and seems to prefer a calm yet confident handler. Apollo has lived with a couple of cats and has done well with them. He seems unaffected by their presence and is calm with them around. Having met a variety of dogs in his travels, Apollo has made it clear that he can live peacefully with another dog. However, he is not a big fan of high-energy dogs who get in his face. We can't blame him for setting his boundaries. Apollo is looking for a forever home that will provide him with the guidance and routine that will help him thrive. He will benefit greatly from training with his new family. This will not only help him bond to his new family but it will also help him develop the skills needed to become a good canine citizen. If your household is looking for a big, laid back guy, ask to meet Apollo today! August 12, 2024, 6:56 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Beautiful Bailey was adored by her family. They knew she was a special girl and ensured that she had endless love, attention, and plenty of toys. However, when an unexpected event took place, they were unable to keep Bailey and provide her with the life they knew she deserved. Recognizing that we would provide Bailey with everything she needed to meet with success, her family made the heartbreaking decision to return her to the MAGSR. Knowing this was a very difficult decision, we promised we would find Bailey the perfect forever family.  Bailey is an active, intelligent, and playful girl. She loves her people fiercely and gives them every ounce of affection she has. With some very strong GSD traits, Bailey is loyal, protective, and on point. She tends to notice everything around her and keeps an eye on her people at all times.  As a girl with a high prey drive, smaller creatures can be a little too enticing for Bailey. She finds joy in chasing small creatures, such as rabbits and squirrels, and will need to be monitored closely if they are out and about with her. Fond of the outdoors, Bailey is always up for a long walk, hike, or adventure. She takes cues well from the handler and knows many commands. Lucky to have lived in a loving household for a few years, Bailey has developed a solid understanding of and appreciation for toys; she is hoping her forever family enjoys them too! She loves to play ball and can't help but enjoy a good squeaky toy. With a few years of experience living in a home, Bailey has also developed an affinity for a soft bed. She loves cuddling up on her dog bed and doesn't mind having a dog bed or two in the house just to change up viewpoints throughout the day. Although Bailey is crate trained and housebroken, once settled, she prefers to be out and about. This seems to keep her more settled throughout the day. As is true of all shepherds Bailey will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. Providing clear boundaries and expectations will help Bailey meet with success. Bailey has already completed some basic training; however, she is always up for more! Continued training is essential to Bailey's success. Not only will it help her develop her canine citizenship skills, but it will also help her develop a strong and healthy bond with her forever family.  August 12, 2024, 6:56 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION:  Handsome Storm lived in a home. However, due to an issue with the landlord, he was surrendered to a local shelter. Although shepherds typically struggle in shelters, Storm is special as he remained friendly and affectionate with staff. Recognizing that Storm deserved every chance to find a loving forever family, staff began searching for a shepherd rescue that would help this boy on his journey. Working with us to find the right circumstances to welcome Storm, the shelter staff provided this guy with the safety and security needed to move forward.  Storm is a friendly and playful guy. He has handled all of the changes in his life like a champ. However, it is important that Storm's forever family recognize that he has been through a lot and will need time to adjust to his forever home. Having moved into an incredible foster home, Storm has been enjoying the comforts of a soft bed and calm environment. He has quickly charmed his foster family. As Storm continues to move forward, he will thrive with structure, routine, and leadership. This is typical of all GSDs. Training will go a long way with this boy. Not only will training help Storm develop a strong and healthy bond with his forever family, but it will also help him develop into a good canine citizen.  While at the shelter, staff noticed some concerns with Storms hips. They took the important steps of getting him to a vet who began running tests and x-rays. It was discovered that Storm has severe hip dysplasia. At this time his right hip is of greatest concern. However, an injury to his cruciate ligament was also found within Storm's right knee. By the time he was seen, he had already lost a lot of muscle around his hips and legs. Storm has begun to receive the care he needs to move forward. He is being monitored by our incredible vetting team while we rebuild muscle. He will also begin working with an orthopedic specialist in order to determine next steps for an orthopedic repair. Storm's care will be very expensive; however, we know he is more than worth the cost. Please consider donating to his medical needs. Your donation will not only help us continue to move Storm forward, but it will also help us continue to support medical dogs in need. Storm will be taking it slow over the next few months while we help him heal. Please continue to watch for updates on his care.  August 12, 2024, 6:56 pm

Story
DESCRIPTION: The Fall puppies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato (Tator) - were an accidental litter. Raised together with their parents, these dogs have had the chance to learn many doggy social skills. Although their human family enjoyed the puppies, it can be difficult to care for a large litter and challenging to find safe and loving homes. Recognizing that the Fall puppies would be most successful if placed within a breed specific rescue, their family contacted MAGSR. We promised that we would find each pup a safe and loving forever family that would cherish these babies for a lifetime.  The Fall puppies are very large babies for their age. They are clearly big fans of food. Having spent time outside, these babies love the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors. So, they are hoping their forever families love adventures. Although these babies have been socialized well with their doggy family, they have not been exposed to many new people or situations. Socialization is critical to their success. Recognizing that social skills are essential as the Fall puppies move forward, our amazing volunteers are already beginning this process. Learning the ins and outs of living in a household, these babies are learning the joys of endless toys, comfortable beds, and loads of love. As they continue to move forward, all six babies will strive in households that will provide the structure, routine, and leadership that all shepherds crave.  Although these babies are absolutely adorable, please remember that puppies are a lot of work. Puppies will whine, chew, have accidents, and fill your home with endless antics. With time, training, and patience, all 6 babies - Autumn, Cider, Ember, Maple, Pumpkin, and Sweet Potato - will develop into good canine citizens. If one of the Fall puppies sounds like the right match for your household, ask to meet these fluffy bundles of joy today! August 12, 2024, 6:56 pm
