Story
We rescued Sidney from a horrific shelter in Memphis, TN. When we got him, he was skin and bones and had some barrier aggression issues (who knows what horrors he suffered there) It didn't take long for Sidney to realize he was now safe and could start letting down his guard. Sidney Poitier has filled out and is truly a stunning dog. Sidney is about 2 years old, and is at his healthy weight of 80 lbs. Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person. Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats. Sidney does show barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he show absolutely no issues. Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system)  He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention Sidney is currently located in the Middle TN area but transport is included in the adoption fee for approved adopter If you are interested in Sidney Poitier, email cox_ann@bellsouth.net for an application

Story
Rocky is a young german shepherd who would love a family with an active lifestyle. He's soft and wiggly with all people and dogs. He also has anxiety which can make transition periods difficult. Rocky is very smart but requires a bond to take instructions. He's a dog who's looking for a job. When he does calm down, he'll curl up on the couch for pets. He's incredibly smart which makes him great off-leash, although he has a strong prey drive. He loves time with his family, but really cherishes having play time with another dog. He can get a bit rowdy and has a rowdy play style. Rocky does get loud when other dogs bark or to announce that he would like to meet another dog. He is excellent at fetch. He's grown so much since we adopted him in January. However, he needs a family that can spend more time with him than we can, and is more tolerant of his shedding. Ideally, he'd like to move to the country or a house with a big yard.

Story
Maggie is a sweet, energetic and loving girl. We got her as an 8 week old puppy. She is crate trained and loves her toys very much. We have two older cats and a very small older dog, which we thought would grow to love Maggie, but it had never happened so she is sad that she can’t be part of their pack. It has caused her anxiety that she’s not able to play with them. Now that we are moving to a home that will make it near impossible to give them all their own spaces, we think it would be in Maggie’s best interest to find her a home where she is more free to bond and play. And, also a home where she has plenty of playtime both inside and out. Maggie will come with her crate, elevated food dishes, and lots of toys, so she can feel more at home sooner with her new family.

Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Lilly is 4yo, weighs 58lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, but is not microchipped.  Lilly is good in the car, but is anxious; she dislikes/fears loud noises such as thunder and gunshots.  Lilly's guardian adds:             "She is Ball or Frisbee fanatic. It's all she wants to do.  A friend told me it's a sign of working dog . A complete stranger could Walk up to  Lilly  hand her a ball and she would accept them . That's how I introduce her to others.  Being a Shepherd she is very protective.  I take her for walks on the Antietam battlefield the closer we get to cars people or dogs the more anxious she gets to the point that I avoid confrontation.  My son hugs me and you can see her unrest. She has the anxiety of wheels. Especially byclcles. She did a year ago knock a byclicelest over on the C.O canal.didnt attack him though.                                  We did go through  4 months of professional training.once a week  2yrs ago.  She knows All the commands  She is very smart, but training was cut short because my wife had a heart attack.  We did board her at a large kennel 3 times when we went on vacation.  She was kept away from other dogs.  She is fine with them and at the vets when neither of us are around.  She loves to swim as I have taken her to Antietam creek numerous times.  I believe in the pack mentality and think she's not been totally broken of it. She listens to me but I just don't trust her and I have grandkids and friends and just can't risk it anymore." Lilly's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  "I don't trust her that she won't commit another bite or someone or another dog or animal, especially when I'm not around." BITE INCIDENTS:  In April 2022 and in May 2023, Lilly bit a neighbor's dog and guardian's son's friend.  Guardian explains:  "Neighbor's 2 small dogs were on the property border and Lilly attacked one and the dog was treated by the vet.  [My] son's friend, visiting, got close and she bit leg (nip bite on butt and teeth bite on back of leg); treated by us, not by doctor; both incidents were reported to the humane society."  Lilly's guardian states the following regarding children/dogs/cats:  Lilly lives with a cat and parrot, but hasn't lived with children or dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with anyone but an adult.   Lilly's guardian describes her as: Very active Playful Independent Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Lilly's guardian describes her ideal future home:  "I believe Lilly would be best suited for an individual.  She wants to please and does interact great with me.  No matter where we go or do, she wants to follow.  She is playful with so much energy." Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Drizzy is 1yr/4mos. old, weighs 70lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, but is not microchipped.  "Drizzy knows 'sit', 'down', 'wait' (another command for stay but, we also use it in Spanish - espera) and 'come'.  He does very well during car rides; likes sticking his head out the window." NOTE:  At the behest of Rescue Well, Drizzy's guardian contacted a referred GSD rescue organization and although they don't have room, they've paid for some training sessions for Drizzy and his guardian to attend.  Additionally, his guardian is actively socializing him using proven techniques and so far is successful. Drizzy's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Drizzy is the dog that my ex-boyfriend got me in December of 2022.  We separated in January of 2023 and he took Drizzy. Drizzy is a 1 year and 4 month old German Shepherd Mix.  Drizzy had  been in my ex's care for a year now but my ex decided to enlist in the Navy.  He left for basic training on February 21st, 2024 and Drizzy has been in my care since February 20th, 2024.  I already have a multi-dog household (three) and with Drizzy not getting along with one of my dogs, I'm not able to take Drizzy and give him the care and special attention that he needs because I just do not have the time with 4 dogs and no one else living in my household.  My ex was not able to get a family member to take him before he left. He was resigned to just drop Drizzy off at a shelter but, I know given how crowded shelters are at the moment paired with occasional aggression issues Drizzy has had with people that he has not been exposed to multiple times, I had fears that he would be euthanized so I asked him to give Drizzy to me so I could work on rehoming him myself." Drizzy's guardian offers a brief a medical history:  "Trazadone and Gabapentin for calming anxiety before vet visits." Drizzy's guardian states the following regarding children:  Drizzy has never been around children, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating... "Drizzy has never been around children so, I would not recommend at this time that he live in a home with children or where they visit regularly.  Again, because he does not have historical socialization with children and pretty much exclusively with adults, I would not recommend a home with children or where they visit regularly." Drizzy's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Drizzy has lived with dogs, but his guardain doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating... "Drizzy has a friendly and playful with dogs that he grew up with as a puppy.  Before staying primarily with my ex, Drizzy stayed primarily in my home that included two large dogs, a rottweiler and a rough collie mix.  Even after moving in with my ex and only seeing my two dogs occasionally, he still maintained a friendly and playful relationship.  While staying with my ex for the last year, he lived with my ex’s cousins’ dog and they had a friendly relationship.  He also had a relationship with a neighborhood dog at my ex’s apartment complex after meeting him on leash multiple times.  However, he would not always be friendly with this neighborhood dog.  Additionally, I ended up with a third dog recently and Drizzy growled and barked incessantly at him until they were separated.  When he sees dogs on walks especially if those dogs are not leashed, he growls a bit and barks and tries to go towards the dog.  I do think that he has the potential to get along with other dogs after repeated exposure to said dog." Drizzy's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Drizzy lived with a cat, but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating... "Drizzy has lived in a home with a cat since he was a puppy.  Before my ex and I broke up, I had a cat before she passed away and he was playful and curious with her.  When he stayed with my ex, there was a cat in the home and Drizzy never had any issues besides occasionally wanting to chase.  When he sees stray cats while on walks, he does try to chase but can generally be called away from chasing." Drizzy's guardian describes him as: Very active Barks alot Playful Fearful Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Crate-Trained Drizzy's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Drizzy’s ideal home at the moment would be one where he was either an only dog, one where there is a younger puppy that he could bond with and teach.  He does love to run around with dogs that he has had the chance to get to know.  He grew up from 8 weeks to about 20 weeks intially with two dogs in my home who even after no longer living in the home, he remembered them after months of separation and maintained a friendly and playful relationship with them.  Drizzy has the potential to have really great relationships with other dogs but, I do think of other dogs are in the home, Drizzy would need a patient mom or dad to work with cultivating a relationship between the two.  Additionally, as Drizzy has only lived with adults and been exposed to adults, I would say a home without children would be ideal.  Lastly, his ideal home would be one where there is a large yard for running around or someone who loves to go on long walks and runs as he is used to being walked 2-3 times a day everyday!  He is very energetic and loves moving around and as such needs the a commitment to either longer walks or a good size yard." I came to GDR with my siblings and Mama, who are all adopted now yaaay, and now I'm waiting for it to be my turn to be adopted! Dodger is a happy and excited boy who loves to wag his tail and makes lots of noise, just like his sister! He has a ton of energy to spare and wants to use it running around, playing fetch, or going on long walks. He'll need lots of activity and would be great with another active dog and active kids :) Dodger is a very sweet and polite boy also who loves to cuddle on the couch or bed, or sit down right next to you. Some basic information about Dodger; he is male, Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix, and is large-sized (60-99lbs).
