Story
Meet Carson! THRIVING IN FOSTER! NEEDS A HOME WITH ANOTHER PUP! This four-year-old, 77-pound German shepherd is nothing short of spectacular! His easy-going, gentle demeanor makes him the best companion and we have no doubt you'll fall for him just like we did! Carson is currently loving life in his foster home while he waits for his forever family to come knocking. House-trained & crate-trained, Carson aims to please! He currently lives with kids and another shepherd and he is great with them all! In fact, Carson does so well with his fur sister that we are looking for a home with another confident pup to help him acclimate in his new home. He has a submissive playstyle and responds well to correction. A fan of stuffy toys and meaty treats, his foster family can take away both with no issue. Carson is a very capable pup and is learning so many new commands. He's very eager to please! Carson enjoys his time outside and given his love of exploring, he will need a fenced-in yard to keep him safe. He's not fond of cats or other small animals though so a home without those is a requirement. Carson is a very smart boy who will need lots of mental stimulation and enrichment in his new home. Daily exercise is essential to keep him happily engaged. His new family will need to be patient and encouraging while he gets settled in his new surroundings. Thinking of a road trip, Carson does well in the car and is looking forward to join you wherever the road takes you. He also does well on his leash, but will need a strong, capable handler who can continue to work with him. Carson always makes time to roll over for a well-deserved belly rub and snuggle time with his foster family. At the end of the day, he sleeps quietly through the night, dreaming of his forever family. Based on our evaluation, we feel Carson would be best in a moderately active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. We are looking for a home with another confident dog to help him acclimate. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby! Carson will need a home free of cats and small animals. If you think Carson is the pup for you, don't wait! Head to greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your app for this capable guy!

Story
Meet Topper! This 55-pound, two-year-old shepherd mix will make you swoon the moment you meet him! Attentive and affectionate, Topper is one lovey-dovey man! Not only will he capture your heart with those gorgeous eyes of his, his endearing curiosity makes him all the more easy to love. Topper will benefit from a home where he can be exercised daily and continue his training. He already knows sit and we know he's capable of learning even more. Topper recently went on an outing where he enjoyed a nice two mile hike. He jumped right in the car and will be ready to join you on all of your adventures. He's also good on his leash and stops to give hugs along the way. His adventure finished up with a delicious pup cup that he devoured. Before coming to GLDR, Topper spent some time in a foster home and they raved about how awesome he was! He lived with two other dogs previously and did amazing with them! He has a blast running in the yard with his kennel mates here at GLDR and we think he'd love to have a fellow fur sibling in his new home (though it's not a requirement). Based on our evaluation, we feel Topper will do well in an active home with adults or families with kids ages eight and up. We feel he has the capability to live in a home with another dog. We are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby! Don't let this delightful pup pass you by. Visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our terrific Topper!

Daughter & partner’s dog. Split up and moved back home but we already have 2 other dogs and 2 cats. Kage is a wonderful and loving dog with humans but does not get on with other animals, especially cats. He is ok with our other dogs but cats is a no-no. Great with kids and very affectionate.

Story
***Scout is in a foster home right now, so he is not at the kennel. If you are interested in him, please fill out an application at K9stray.com and we will be in touch. Thank you.*** Hi there, I’m Scout! I’m a year old 45 lb German Shepherd and Cattle Dog mix, and I’m looking for a patient and loving family. I am blind in my left eye, but that doesn't slow me down much! I’m a playful pup who loves to explore. I’m also pretty smart. My foster mom even taught me some agility tricks! But I do have a bit of a mouthy side, especially when I get excited. My foster mom has been using a clicker when I get too mouthy and it’s really helping me focus better when I hear the noise. I'd love a home with someone who has experience with peppy dogs like me and is willing to work with me on my manners. I’m happiest in a calm and quiet home that is all adults. A fenced yard would be great too, so I can run and play safely. I do like the company of other dogs. I’d prefer a doggie friend that doesn’t jump in my face. It’s hard to see who’s coming on my blind side. If you have another dog, let’s meet up and see how we do together. I'm a big fan of food and treats! A slow feeder helps to keep me from inhaling my meals. I also love toys, especially the kind that keep my mind busy and give me a tasty reward. I really enjoy playing fetch! I love belly rubs, balls, and soft toys, and I’m always up for a good cuddle. If you’re looking for a fun, spunky, and handsome young man like myself, come check me out. I might just be the perfect dog for you! If you are interested in Scout and are at least 21 years old, please fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
***Adoption Pending*** Hello, my name is Wocket, and I am the most adorable big eared puppy you'll ever meet! I am only about 10 months old and I weigh 46 pounds right now, but I am sure to get a little bigger. I'm extremely affectionate and love being with you, whether it's getting belly rubs, or a game of fetch with my favorite toy, tennis balls! Oh, I just can’t wait to go for walks, play and cuddle with my new family. I am also a very intelligent pup, but I need someone who can give me some basic training, especially for jumping up for attention and establish themselves as the leader of my pack. I am a quick learner, and I love to please, so with the right owner, I will be your very well-behaved best friend! The nice volunteers at the rescue say I am definitely a “diamond in the ruff.” It would be perfect if my new family had shepherd experience and understood my mental and physical needs. Above all else, my favorite thing is to hang out with people. I can’t wait to get out of this kennel environment and have a home and someone to love. I am a puppy with a lot of energy, so I would be perfect for an active family. Even though I love to play and run around, I also know when it's time to settle down and be a good boy. A home where any children are at least 8 years old will be best for me since I do have a few manners to learn. I sure hope my forever family finds me soon. If you are interested in Wocket and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*
